Pattern Overview
This pattern is written in US crochet terms and is designed to recreate the pictured cat as closely as possible. The finished doll has a large rounded head, a small cylindrical neck, a short body hidden under a flared dress, slim arms, straight legs, rounded ears, and layered garden accessories.
The cat is worked mostly in continuous spiral rounds with firm stuffing. The dress is built directly around the body, then decorated with blue trim, a sunflower garden border, and a blue scalloped underskirt. The accessories are made separately and sewn in place after the main doll is assembled.
- Finished height: approximately 11.5 inches from sandals to top of ears.
- Head width: approximately 4.75 inches across when stuffed firmly.
- Dress width: approximately 6 inches across the lower skirt.
- Skill level: confident beginner to intermediate.
- Main techniques: magic ring, single crochet, increases, decreases, color changes, surface embroidery, appliqué sewing, and scalloped edging.

Important Gauge and Stuffing Notes
Use a tight amigurumi tension so the stuffing does not show through the stitches. The pictured cat has visible rounded crochet texture, but the fabric is still dense and smooth. If your stitches look loose, switch to a smaller hook before starting the head.
Stuff the head very firmly to keep the large round shape. Stuff the arms and lower legs lightly so they remain soft and narrow. The body should be firm enough to support the head, but it will be mostly covered by the dress.
- Gauge sample: 6 sc rounds of 36 sts should measure about 2.25 inches across when worked in the round.
- Head style: large sphere with a slightly flattened front for the face.
- Dress style: yellow flared skirt with blue scalloped petticoat showing below.
- Accessory style: small, rounded, garden-themed pieces sewn neatly to the surface.
Head
Use cream yarn and a 3.0 mm hook. Work in continuous rounds. The head should be oversized compared with the body, matching the soft kitten shape in the photo.

Facial Embroidery
The face is simple and sweet. The black eyes are glossy and low on the round head. The nose is pink and small, with a short vertical mouth line underneath.
- Thread a yarn needle with pink yarn.
- Embroider a small horizontal triangle nose centered between the eyes, about 2 rounds below the eye line.
- Make 3 short satin stitches across the same spot to fill the nose.
- Bring the yarn down from the center of the nose and make one vertical stitch about 0.4 inch long.
- Secure inside the head or under the chin area.
- With black embroidery thread, add 2 short eyelashes at the outer upper corner of each eye.
- Add soft pink cheek blush under each eye using powder blush or 3 tiny pink yarn stitches.
Assembly Order
Use pins before sewing. This doll has many small details, so positioning matters. Check the front view often to keep both sides balanced.
- Sew the body to the bottom of the head. The neck should sit centered under the head and slightly toward the back so the face looks forward.
- Sew the ears to the head between R5 and R12. Angle the ears slightly outward.
- Sew the pink inner ear circles onto the ears if you did not attach them earlier.
- Place the dress bodice around the body and sew the back seam closed.
- Sew the blue bodice panel to the front of the yellow bodice.
- Sew the arms to the sides of the body through the sleeve openings. The hands should point downward.
- Crochet the yellow sleeves around the armholes.
- Attach the yellow skirt to the lower bodice and complete the blue petticoat.
- Sew the legs to the bottom of the body under the skirt, spaced about 1 inch apart.
- Slide or sew the sandals onto the feet, keeping the flower decorations on the outer sides.
- Add the blue collar and shoulder straps.
- Sew sunflower appliqués, stems, leaves, and bees onto the dress front.
- Place the crossbody bag over the shoulder and tack the strap at the shoulder and hip so it stays in place.
- Sew head flowers and leaves near the ears.
- Finish the face with nose, mouth, eyelashes, and blush.
Placement Guide for Image Accuracy
The most important part of this design is the balance between the large round head and the decorative outfit. Keep the head oversized, the body short, and the skirt wide. The finished cat should look like a soft garden doll rather than a realistic cat.
- Eyes: Place between R16 and R17 of the head, 12 stitches apart.
- Nose: Centered between the eyes, 2 rounds lower.
- Ears: Sew high on the head, slightly toward the sides, not straight on top.
- Collar: Sit directly under the chin with blue scallops visible.
- Dress skirt: The yellow skirt should cover the upper legs and flare outward.
- Petticoat: Blue scallops should show evenly below the yellow hem.
- Bag: Hang from the cat’s right shoulder to the left side of the skirt.
- Hat: Display beside the doll, with blue trim and small flowers facing front.
Extra Detail: Sunflower Garden Embroidery on Skirt
To match the lower skirt in the photo, arrange the flowers in a soft curved line across the front. The largest sunflower should sit slightly right of center, with another large flower to the left and one near the right side.
Use green yarn to add small stems and leaves between the flowers. Keep the stems slightly curved instead of perfectly straight. This makes the lower dress look like a tiny sunflower garden rather than separate appliqués.
- Thread green yarn and bring it up from the inside of the skirt below one flower.
- Make one vertical stitch upward to the flower center.
- Make one angled stitch from the stem to the left for a leaf.
- Make one angled stitch from the stem to the right for a second leaf.
- Repeat under each large flower.
- For smaller flowers, make shorter stems and one small leaf.
Extra Detail: Blue Trim and Ruffle Control
The blue trim is a strong visual feature. The collar, bag strap, petticoat, hat brim, and bodice details should use the same blue yarn. This keeps the whole design coordinated and close to the image.
If your scallops curl too much, block them lightly with steam from a safe distance. Do not press the acrylic yarn directly with an iron. Shape each scallop with your fingers while it is warm and let it cool flat.
Optional Display Layout
To copy the full image display, place the cat in the center. Set the yellow hat to the left side of the doll. Place the tan basket with yarn balls to the right. Put the butterflies near the accessories rather than sewing them to the cat.
- Place the sunhat slightly tilted with the flower side facing forward.
- Place the basket close to the cat’s right foot.
- Place the blue butterfly near the hat brim.
- Place the pink butterfly near the basket.
- Keep the cat upright with legs hanging straight down.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
After all pieces are attached, check the doll from the front, both sides, and above. Add extra hidden stitches wherever an accessory moves too freely. The ears, bag strap, and flowers should feel secure but not pulled too tight.
Shape the cheeks by gently pressing the stuffing around the eyes. Add blush lightly so it looks soft, not heavy. Trim all yarn tails close only after you are sure every part is positioned correctly.
Care Notes
- Spot clean with cool water and mild soap.
- Do not machine wash if safety eyes, blush, or delicate appliqués are used.
- Let the doll air dry completely before storing.
- Keep away from pets, rough handling, and very young children if small parts are attached.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish

- The sunflower appliqués are securely sewn to the front.
- The crossbody bag hangs diagonally across the dress.
- The sandals fit neatly with toes visible.
- The hat, basket, yarn balls, and butterflies complete the garden scene.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
For best preservation, store the cat in a dry, shaded place. Direct sunlight may fade the yellow and blue yarn over time. Keep the doll standing or sitting naturally so the ears, bag strap, and skirt ruffles do not become bent.
If dust gathers on the doll, use a soft clean brush to lift it away. For small stains, dab gently with a damp cloth. Avoid soaking the flowers, bees, blush, and embroidered details because repeated moisture can loosen tiny stitches.
When storing the accessories, place the hat, basket, and butterflies in a small breathable fabric bag. Do not press heavy objects on top of the doll. The scalloped petticoat and brim will keep their shape better if stored without compression.
