This cheerful crochet diorama features a round woodland train station shaped like a cream toadstool house with a red spotted mushroom roof, arched double doors, tiny windows, a chimney mushroom, a circular railway track, a yellow-and-green train, acorn cargo cars, a frog porter, a ladybug passenger, a twig-style fence, flowers, moss, and mini mushrooms.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This pattern is written in US crochet terms and is designed as a decorative amigurumi diorama. The finished piece is worked as separate crochet parts that are stuffed, shaped, and sewn onto a firm round base. The design uses tight single crochet stitches so the station, figures, train, and scenery keep their rounded handmade form.
The sample is sized as a tabletop display. With medium-weight yarn and a 3.0 mm hook, the full scene measures about 15 inches across. The toadstool station stands about 8 inches tall including the mushroom roof and chimney. The small train pieces measure between 2 and 4 inches each.
Skill Level
Advanced beginner to intermediate. The project uses basic amigurumi shaping, color changes, surface details, embroidery, flat circles, small cylinders, ovals, and simple sewing. Beginners can complete it by working slowly and marking every round.
Finished Size
- Round grass base: about 15 inches wide.
- Toadstool terminal building: about 6 inches wide and 7 inches tall.
- Mushroom roof: about 8 inches wide and 2.5 inches tall.
- Train engine: about 4 inches long.
- Each train car: about 2.5 inches long.
- Frog porter: about 3.5 inches tall.
- Ladybug passenger: about 3.5 inches tall.
- Fence height: about 1.5 inches.
Materials

- 3.0 mm crochet hook for amigurumi pieces.

Abbreviations
- MR = magic ring.
- ch = chain.
- sl st = slip stitch.
- sc = single crochet.
- hdc = half double crochet.
- dc = double crochet.
- inc = 2 sc in the same stitch.
- dec = invisible single crochet decrease.
- BLO = back loops only.
- FLO = front loops only.
- st = stitch.
- rnd = round.
- FO = fasten off.
Gauge and Texture
Use a tight amigurumi gauge so stuffing does not show through. For the small figures, 6 sc across should measure about 1 inch. For the base, the gauge can be slightly looser. The mushroom roof should feel firm, rounded, and slightly heavy, so stuff it evenly while shaping.
Important Construction Notes
- Work most amigurumi parts in continuous rounds unless the pattern says otherwise.
- Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of every round.
- Stuff pieces gradually. Do not wait until the final round for large parts.
- For a clean display piece, hide all yarn tails inside the work after sewing.
- Use pins before sewing the station, track, train, fence, figures, and flowers onto the base.
Round Grass Base
The base is a large flat crochet circle with a raised edge. It represents the green lawn inside the rustic fence. For a sturdy display, crochet two circles and sandwich a cardboard or plastic canvas circle between them.

Cut a 5-inch cardboard circle and place it inside the bottom of the building. Stuff the walls firmly but keep the base flat. The building should stand straight without wobbling.
Subtle Wall Texture
Using beige yarn, embroider short vertical lines randomly around the cream walls. Keep the stitches 2 to 4 rounds tall. This gives the station a woven mushroom-stem texture like the image without making the surface too busy.
Red Mushroom Roof
The roof is a wide red dome with a soft downward curve. It should extend past the cream wall by about 1 inch on every side. The underside is cream and slightly concave, helping the roof sit securely on the station.

- Sew fence posts around the outer edge, then attach the horizontal rails.
- Add mini mushrooms, flowers, pebbles, and moss clumps around the fence and track.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Check that every piece faces the same front direction. The station sign, doors, frog, ladybug, and train should all be clearly visible from the front. Add small embroidered smiles, cheeks, and eye highlights last so they stay clean.
- Use black thread for the frog smile and ladybug face details.
- Use white thread to add tiny eye highlights.
- Use tan or brown yarn for door plank lines and sign lettering.
- Use short stitches only, so the details stay neat and readable.
Care Notes
This crochet diorama is best used as a decorative display, not as a toy for small children. It has many small sewn pieces, including mushrooms, flowers, wheels, and signs. Keep it on a shelf, table, or windowsill away from heavy handling.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- The base lies flat and does not curl.
- The terminal building stands straight in the center.
- The mushroom roof is evenly stuffed and securely sewn.
- The sign reads TOADSTOOL TERMINAL.
- The train pieces sit on the front track in the correct order.
- The frog has a blue cap and ticket.
- The ladybug has antennae, black limbs, and red spotted body.
- The fence surrounds the base with a rustic twig look.
- Flowers, mushrooms, moss, and pebbles fill the garden edge.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Spot clean only with a soft damp cloth and a small amount of mild soap. Do not soak the full diorama because the inner stiffener may warp. Press gently and let the piece air dry completely on a towel.
To preserve the shape, keep the diorama away from direct sunlight, moisture, and dust. Store it in a box with tissue paper around the roof and train pieces if you need to move it. Avoid stacking anything on top of the mushroom cap.
