Create a detailed woodland market diorama featuring a striped produce stall, a bespectacled mole shopkeeper, a pastel fairy bunny, a friendly hedgehog customer, a stone wishing well, glowing lantern posts, wooden vegetable crates, flowers, mushrooms, stepping stones, and a softly bordered meadow base. The finished scene is designed as a decorative playset with removable characters and miniature market accessories.

Gauge and Construction Notes
For the small amigurumi pieces, 11 sc and 11 rounds should measure approximately 2 inches. The stitches must be firm enough to hide the stuffing. Use a smaller hook if gaps appear between the stitches.
The market stall and wishing well are built from crocheted panels wrapped around plastic canvas. This gives the structures the crisp proportions visible in the finished scene. Cut each support piece slightly smaller than the corresponding crochet panel so the edges can be sewn together neatly.
Work continuous rounds unless the instructions specifically say to join. Mark the first stitch of every round. Stuff gradually and firmly, but do not overfill narrow limbs, ears, posts, fruit, or miniature baskets.
Meadow Base

- Round 6: Change to dark brown and sc 12.
- Round 7: Repeat sc 1, dec around. You have 8 sts.
- Round 8: Dec around. FO.
Embroider four vertical brown frame lines over the yellow center. Add a small chain loop at the top and hang the lantern from the curved post.
Flowers, Mushrooms, and Grass
Five-Petal Flower
Work 5 sc in MR. In each stitch, work sl st, ch 2, 2 hdc, ch 2, and sl st. FO. Add a contrasting French-knot center.
Make flowers in pale blue, yellow, pink, white, and red. Sew them between the border stones and around the lower corners of the meadow.
Large Red Poppy
With black, work 6 sc in MR. Change to red. In each stitch, work sl st, ch 3, 3 dc, ch 3, and sl st. Add two green leaves beneath the flower.
Leaves
Ch 7 with green. Beginning in the second ch, sl st, sc, hdc, dc, hdc, and 3 sc in the final ch. Continue along the opposite side with hdc, dc, hdc, sc, and sl st.
Red Mushroom
For the stem, work 6 sc in MR and continue for six rounds. For the cap, work 6 sc in MR, increase to 12 stitches, then increase to 18 stitches. Crochet one final round of 18 sc.
Stuff both pieces lightly and sew the cap to the stem. Add small white French knots across the red cap.
Grass Tufts
Join dark green yarn directly to the meadow. Repeat ch 6, sl st in the second chain and remaining chains, then sl st into the base. Make three to seven blades per tuft.
Place tall grass behind the wishing well, around the stall posts, beside the lanterns, and near the hedgehog. Keep the foreground more open so the stepping-stone path remains visible.
Small Flower Boxes
Make two rectangular boxes using the produce-crate method with a starting chain of 13. Work seven base rows, one BLO wall round, and four even wall rounds.
Fill each box with a narrow green rectangle. Sew clusters of blue and white flowers across the top. Position one box near the lower-left corner and the second near the market area.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
- Sew the market stall slightly right of the rear center of the meadow. Keep the front counter parallel to the lower edge of the base.
- Attach the wishing well on the rear-left side, leaving enough open grass between the well and stall for the fairy bunny.
- Place the mole behind the counter with the apron facing forward. Stitch only the feet to the stall floor if a removable figure is not required.
- Place the fairy bunny in front of the well and left side of the counter. Angle the wings backward so the face and dress remain visible.
- Place the hedgehog at the right front of the stall. Position the handled basket in front of its body and stitch one paw to the handle.
- Arrange the produce crates in two levels. Place strawberries in the front crates, mixed berries in the center, and pears, apples, pumpkins, carrots, and greens toward the right side.
- Sew the stepping stones in a gentle curve leading from the front center to the stall.
- Attach the lantern posts securely through the meadow and plastic canvas. Place one on each side of the hedgehog and one near the stall.
- Add mushrooms, flowers, grass, and empty wooden crates only after all large structures are permanently attached.
- Embroider tiny white eye highlights on the mole, bunny, and hedgehog. Add pale pink blush beneath the bunny’s eyes and a small beige highlight on the mole’s nose.
Care Notes
Keep the finished diorama away from moisture, direct sunlight, pets, and open flames. Because the scene contains wire, plastic canvas, safety eyes, and very small accessories, it is intended as a decorative collectible rather than a toy for children under three years old.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- Confirm that every post, lantern, shelf, and roof panel is firmly reinforced.
- Check that the market sign faces forward and sits centered above the canopy.
- Make sure all safety eyes and embroidered facial details are secure.
- Count the produce crates and distribute the fruit evenly across the counter.
- Check that the bunny wings do not cover the ears, face, or striped dress.
- Ensure the hedgehog’s basket remains upright and the produce cannot fall out.
- Remove loose fibers, visible knots, glue strands, and temporary positioning pins.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Remove surface dust with a clean, soft makeup brush or a low-suction handheld vacuum covered with fine mesh. Support delicate flowers, lanterns, glasses, wings, and signs with one hand while cleaning around them.
Do not machine-wash the completed diorama. For a small stain, lightly dampen a white cloth with cool water and mild soap, then blot the affected stitches. Avoid soaking reinforced areas because plastic canvas, internal supports, wire, and glue may shift.
Allow cleaned areas to air-dry completely in a shaded, well-ventilated place. Store the scene inside a clear display box or a breathable fabric-covered container. Place acid-free tissue around the lantern posts and roof sign during long-term storage to prevent bending.
