This charming Highland cow girl features a cream amigurumi body, soft shaggy mane, curled ivory horns, pink muzzle, expressive brown eyes, and rounded ears. She wears a mint-and-cream striped romper decorated with daisies, scalloped leg trim, a front pocket, floral sandals, and a patterned neck scarf. Her accessories include a wide-brim sun hat, berry shoulder bag, watermelon slice, fluffy tail, and miniature storybook.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Finished Size and Construction
Using the recommended yarn and hook, the finished Highland cow measures approximately 15 inches tall from the bottom of the sandals to the top of the mane. The head is intentionally large, the body is pear-shaped, and the legs are short and sturdy to reproduce the proportions shown in the reference image.
- Skill level: Confident beginner to intermediate.
- Main technique: Amigurumi worked in continuous rounds.
- Finished head width: Approximately 5 inches.
- Finished body width: Approximately 4 inches.
- Romper: Removable until final assembly.
- Accessories: Hat, shoulder bag, watermelon, book, scarf, sandals, and daisies.

- Peach fuzzy yarn for the center forelock.
- One pair of 14 mm brown safety eyes.
- 3.0 mm crochet hook for the cow and small accessories.

- Polyester fiberfill.
- Stitch markers, yarn needle, straight pins, scissors, and a pet slicker brush.
- Optional thin plastic millinery cord for strengthening the outer hat brim.
Gauge and Working Notes
Gauge: Ten single crochet stitches and ten rounds should measure approximately 2 inches square with the 3.0 mm hook. Exact gauge is less important than creating a dense fabric that does not show stuffing. Reduce the hook size if visible gaps appear between the stitches.
Work the amigurumi pieces in continuous spirals unless a section specifically says to turn. Place a marker in the first stitch of every round. Stuff gradually and firmly, but avoid stretching the crochet fabric or distorting the intended shape.

Finish stuffing the head firmly, particularly around the cheeks and behind the eye area. Leave the final 18-stitch opening unclosed. Fasten off with a long cream yarn tail for sewing the head to the body.
Eye Patches
Make two with light taupe yarn. These thin circles create the soft tan rims visible around the dark brown eyes.
- R1: Work 6 sc in an MR. 6 sts.
- R2: Inc in each st around. 12 sts.
Fasten off. Insert one safety-eye post through the exact center of each patch. Position the patches on the head between R12 and R15. Push the eye posts through the head and attach the washers securely from inside.
Use one strand of cream yarn to make a short upper eyelid over the top third of each eye. Keep the eyelids slightly angled downward toward the center of the face for the gentle expression shown in the image.
Large Pink Muzzle
Use blush pink yarn. The muzzle is a lightly stuffed oval with a raised darker nose panel. Keep the oval wider than it is tall and place it directly below the eyes.

Fasten off and sew the panel to the center of the larger muzzle. Embroider five closely spaced horizontal dark taupe lines across the nose. Add one rounded nostril at each side using three short satin stitches.
Embroider a short vertical line downward from the center of the nose. Add a shallow curved mouth extending 3 stitches to each side. Do not pull the embroidery tightly, because the muzzle should remain softly rounded.
Rounded Ears
Make two outer ears in cream and two inner ear pieces in blush pink.
Outer Ear
- Foundation: Ch 7.
- R1: Sc in the second ch and next 4 ch, work 3 sc in the final ch, work 4 sc along the opposite side, then work 2 sc in the first chain. 14 sts.

Sew one inner piece to the center of each outer ear. Fold the lower edge of the completed ear in half and make three small stitches through both layers to form a cupped base.
Pin the ears at the sides of the head between R10 and R14. Angle each ear slightly downward, with the rounded tips extending outward. Sew the folded bases firmly to the head.
Curved Spiral Horns
Make two with ivory yarn. Stuff each horn very lightly as you work. The different stitch heights on selected rounds create the upward curve without requiring wire.

Fasten off with a long tail. Thread ivory yarn through the horn and make a raised spiral line from the base to the tip, following the round transitions. Pull the line only enough to emphasize the ridged texture.
Position each horn above its corresponding ear. Place the horn bases approximately 14 stitches apart. The tips should curve upward and slightly outward. Sew the 12-stitch bases to the head using two complete passes of stitching.
Shaggy Mane, Forelock, and Beard
Cut 48 cream fuzzy-yarn strands approximately 5 inches long. Fold each strand in half and latch it through a head stitch with the hook. Add the strands in three curved rows from behind one horn, across the crown, and down behind the opposite ear.
Cut 12 peach fuzzy-yarn strands approximately 4 inches long. Attach these strands between the horn bases over R5 through R10. Concentrate them at the center to form the peach forelock visible above the face.
Cut 18 cream strands approximately 3 1/2 inches long. Attach them beneath the muzzle and along the lower cheek edges. Brush all fuzzy sections gently with the slicker brush. Trim the crown hair to about 2 inches and the beard to about 1 1/2 inches.
Pear-Shaped Body

Embroider one short horizontal separation line across the center of each pink hoof. This creates the divided cow-hoof appearance without changing the rounded shape.
Legs and Feet

- Place each arm through a romper armhole and sew the flattened upper edge to the body between R19 and R22.
- Position the tail at the center back over body R7. Sew around the 6-stitch base.
- Align the 18-stitch head opening with the 18-stitch body opening. Sew each head stitch directly to one body stitch.
- Make a second reinforcing seam around the neck to support the oversized head.
- Wrap and secure the patterned scarf around the completed neck seam.
- Arrange the berry bag strap diagonally from the right shoulder to the left hip.
- Place the sandals beneath the feet and secure them with hidden stitches.
Add two tiny cream stitches at the outer corners of the eyes to blend the eye patches into the face. Brush the mane away from the eyes, separate the peach forelock, and trim any strands that cover the horns or ears.
Check the muzzle from the front and side. It should project slightly from the face, remain centered beneath the eyes, and have an even oval outline. Adjust the stuffing through a small opening before completing the final muzzle stitches if necessary.
Care Notes
Keep the finished cow away from open flames, excessive moisture, pets, and rough surfaces. The brushed mane can collect lint more easily than smooth cotton yarn. Store the doll upright or lying on its back so the horns, hat brim, and floral decorations are not crushed.
Safety eyes and small accessories may present a choking risk. For a toy intended for a child under three years old, replace safety eyes with firmly embroidered eyes and omit removable accessories.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- Both horns curve upward and are placed evenly above the ears.
- The ears are cupped, symmetrical, and angled slightly downward.
- The peach forelock is centered between the horn bases.
- The muzzle is horizontal and centered beneath the eyes.
- All seven neckline daisies are secure.
- The romper stripes meet neatly at the center back.
- The pocket is attached only along the sides and bottom.
- The legs are level and the sandals face forward.
- The scarf pendant hangs at the center of the chest.
- The berry bag rests near the left hip.
- The tail is centered at the back and brushed evenly.
- Every yarn tail has been woven in or hidden inside the doll.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
For light dust, use a clean, dry, soft-bristled brush. Brush the smooth crochet sections in the direction of the stitches. Use very gentle outward strokes on the mane and tail so the fuzzy fibers remain separated.
For small stains, dampen a white cloth with cool water and a tiny amount of mild soap. Blot the stained area without rubbing. Blot again with a second cloth dampened only with clean water.
Do not soak the completed doll, because prolonged moisture may affect the stuffing, embroidered details, safety-eye washers, hat structure, and brushed yarn. Do not place the cow in a washing machine or tumble dryer.
After spot cleaning, reshape the muzzle, ears, horns, romper, and hat with your fingers. Allow every piece to air-dry completely on a clean towel away from sunlight and direct heat.
Store the sun hat flat with the brim supported. Keep the storybook, watermelon, and shoulder bag in a small breathable cotton pouch when they are not displayed with the cow.
To refresh the mane, lift the fibers gently with the tip of a yarn needle before brushing. Trim only isolated damaged strands. Avoid brushing the embroidered eyes, nose, flowers, berry appliques, or scarf designs.
