This cheerful garden mouse features a large golden-yellow head, oversized pink ears, a rounded pink nose, delicate whiskers, and a tall turquoise flower hat. The mouse wears a striped shirt beneath bright blue floral overalls, brown flower sandals, and a crossbody gardening satchel with an acorn charm. A striped watering can and a small crocheted carrot complete the garden-themed display.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Finished Size
Using DK-weight yarn and a 2.5 mm crochet hook, the finished mouse measures approximately 17 inches tall from the bottom of the sandals to the top of the flower hat. The mouse measures about 11 inches across the ears when both ears are attached in the recommended position.
- Mouse without hat: approximately 14 inches tall.
- Head width without ears: approximately 7 inches.
- Body width at the overalls: approximately 5 inches.
- Watering can: approximately 4 inches wide.
- Carrot: approximately 4 inches long, including leaves.
Skill Level
This pattern is suitable for confident beginners and intermediate crocheters. You should be comfortable working in continuous rounds, making increases and invisible decreases, changing colors, crocheting through one loop, embroidering small details, and sewing shaped pieces together.
Materials
- DK-weight cotton or cotton-blend yarn in golden yellow.
- DK-weight yarn in turquoise blue for the overalls and hat.
- DK-weight yarn in pale pink and bright pink.
- DK-weight yarn in white, black, cream, light gray, dusty rose, and muted teal.
- DK-weight yarn in medium brown, dark brown, beige, light blue, orange, and leaf green.
- Small amounts of yellow, lavender, red, pale blue, and green embroidery yarn.
- 2.5 mm crochet hook.
- 2.0 mm crochet hook for flowers and small embroidered-style pieces.
- Polyester fiberfill.
- Two 14 mm black safety eyes or black yarn for embroidered pupils.
- Four small wooden buttons measuring approximately 10 to 12 mm.
- One wooden button measuring approximately 16 mm for the satchel.
- Black embroidery thread or thin black yarn for whiskers, eyebrows, and mouth.
- Yarn needle, sewing needle, stitch markers, scissors, and pins.
- Optional plastic canvas for the sandal soles and satchel base.
Gauge and Tension
Exact gauge is less important than maintaining a firm fabric that does not show the stuffing. A useful target is approximately 6 single crochet stitches and 6 rounds per inch. If stuffing is visible, use a smaller hook. If the fabric feels extremely stiff, move up one hook size.

Carrot Leaves
Use leaf-green yarn. Join at the top of the carrot.
- For the first leaf, ch 10 and sl st back along the chain.
- For the second leaf, ch 8 and sl st back along the chain.
- For the third leaf, ch 11 and sl st back along the chain.
- For the fourth leaf, ch 7 and sl st back along the chain.
- For the fifth leaf, ch 9 and sl st back along the chain.
Fasten off and secure the leaves closely together. Add two short horizontal orange embroidery stitches along the carrot body for texture.
Facial Embroidery and Expression
Use black embroidery thread. Work carefully and keep every stitch symmetrical before tying off.
- Embroider one curved eyebrow approximately two rounds above each eye.
- Each eyebrow should span about six stitches and curve slightly upward toward the center.
- Embroider a shallow curved smile directly beneath the nose.
- Add one small downward stitch from the base of the nose to the center of the smile.
- Add three whiskers on each side of the muzzle.
- Each whisker should begin beside the nose and extend outward across the cheek.
- Use dusty rose yarn to add three short horizontal blush lines to each cheek.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
- Sew the muzzle to the lower front of the head and attach both cheek pads beside it.
- Attach the pink nose at the center of the muzzle.
- Sew the white eye bases above the muzzle and attach the black pupils.
- Sew the inner ears to the outer ears, shape the lower folds, and attach the ears to the head.
- Add the eyebrows, mouth, whiskers, blush lines, and forehead hair tufts.
- Sew the legs beneath the two short cuffs, keeping both feet directed forward.
- Attach the arms at equal heights on the upper torso.
- Sew the head securely to the neck opening using two complete rounds of small stitches.
- Attach the bib, straps, buttons, embroidered flowers, and crossbody satchel.
- Place the hat on the head and tack it at the back and both sides.
Before tightening the final head stitches, examine the mouse from the front and side. The head should sit upright, while the ears remain level. The sandals should rest flat so the seated mouse balances naturally.
Care Notes
- Spot-clean the mouse with cool water and a small amount of gentle soap.
- Do not place the finished toy in a hot dryer.
- Allow the mouse and accessories to air-dry completely.
- Reshape the hat, ears, sandals, and satchel while damp.
- Keep wooden buttons dry whenever possible.
- Check sewn pieces regularly if the mouse is handled frequently.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- Both ears are attached at the same height and angle.
- The pupils point in the same direction.
- The muzzle, nose, and smile are centered.
- The head is firmly stuffed and securely attached.
- The bib and straps lie flat against the striped shirt.
- The legs are evenly spaced beneath the shorts.
- The sandal soles sit flat and the flower decorations face outward.
- The satchel strap crosses the chest without covering the face.
- The watering can handle and spout are firmly attached.
- All loose yarn tails have been woven in securely.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Remove loose surface dust with a soft brush or a clean lint roller. For a small stain, dab the area gently with cool water and mild soap. Avoid rubbing, because rubbing can roughen the stitches and distort embroidered details.
After cleaning, press the toy between clean towels to remove excess moisture. Do not twist or wring the crocheted pieces. Place the mouse on a dry towel and reshape the ears, hat brim, overalls, fingers, toes, and sandal straps.
Store the finished mouse away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and strong heat. Long exposure to sunlight may fade turquoise, pink, and yellow yarn. When storing for a long period, use a breathable cotton bag rather than a sealed plastic container.
Keep the watering can and carrot beside the mouse rather than underneath it. This prevents the small accessories from becoming flattened. Check the hat flowers, overall buttons, satchel button, whiskers, and acorn charm periodically and reinforce any loosened stitches.
