Pasque Flower Early-Spring Bakery Caravan – Crochet

Pasque Flower Early-Spring Bakery Caravan – Crochet

Bring a tiny spring bakery to life with a pastel caravan, shaggy “frosted” roof trim, and a window filled with miniature pastries. If you love shopping for premium cotton yarn, ergonomic crochet hooks, and amigurumi supplies, this project turns those must-have craft purchases into a charming display piece.

This bakery caravan makes an adorable tabletop scene for collectors, gift buyers, and anyone browsing for handmade decor ideas, miniature playset accessories, or a whimsical craft kit to add to their cart. You’ll use a mix of hook sizes so every small detail—flowers, baked goods, and furniture—keeps the crisp scale shown.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Project Overview

This design recreates the pictured bakery caravan with a large open service window on the right, a compact oven and pastry counter on the left, and a soft, shaggy roof trim. Pasque flowers decorate the roofline and corners. The set includes: caravan body, awning, bakery sign, interior shelving, pastries, flour sack, bowls, rolling pin, table, two chairs, a chef pup, a flower pot, and a small cake cart.

To match the look in the photo, the caravan uses clean horizontal crochet rows, simple boxy construction, and carefully placed appliqués. The smallest items are made with a tighter hook so they hold shape and don’t look bulky.

Finished Size

  • Caravan (not including hitch): approx. 10–12 in (25–30 cm) long, 7–8 in (18–20 cm) tall, 4–5 in (10–13 cm) deep
  • Chef pup: approx. 5–6 in (13–15 cm) tall
  • Table: approx. 3 in (7–8 cm) tall
  • Chairs: approx. 2.5–3 in (6–8 cm) tall

Materials

  • Yarn (main caravan): DK/light worsted cotton in pastel aqua/teal, lavender, cream, light gray, dark gray, white
  • Yarn (fluffy trim): eyelash or faux-fur yarn in cream (or hold 2 strands of brushed yarn)
  • Yarn (flowers & minis): sport/fingering cotton in purple, yellow, light green, pale pink, beige, tan, brown
  • Fiberfill: small amount for plush and a few props
  • Plastic canvas or thin craft foam: for caravan walls/floor (recommended for crisp shape)
  • Optional cardboard: to reinforce shelves and table top
  • Safety eyes: 6–8 mm (or embroider)
  • Embroidery floss: black and pink (nose/mouth/blush), cream/brown (details)
  • Stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle
  • Fabric glue (optional, for tiny pastries)
  • Thin wire or pipe cleaners: optional for awning edge stability
  • Small beads: optional for “sprinkles”

Hook Sizes (use multiple)

  • 3.25 mm (D): caravan outer shell, roof, large panels
  • 2.75 mm (C): shelves, awning, sign, furniture frames
  • 2.25 mm (B): pastries, flowers, tiny labels, small bowl/props
  • 3.0 mm (optional): chef pup body if you want slightly softer fabric

Notions & Printables

  • For the BAKERY sign, MENU card, and TIP label: stitch/embroider letters, or cut tiny cardstock rectangles and tack-stitch them to the crochet pieces.
  • If you use cardstock, keep edges slightly rounded to match the soft look in the photo.

Gauge

Gauge is not critical, but you must keep fabric firm so the caravan holds shape. With DK cotton and a 3.25 mm hook, aim for a dense fabric (no large holes). Minis should be very tight with a 2.25 mm hook.

Stitches & Abbreviations (US terms)

  • ch = chain
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • inc = 2 sc in same st
  • dec = invisible decrease (sc2tog)
  • BLO = back loop only
  • FLO = front loop only
  • st(s) = stitch(es)
  • rnd = round
  • row = row

Construction Notes

  • Read each section once before starting. Many pieces are assembled in layers.
  • Use plastic canvas inserts for walls/floor/roof if you want the crisp “toy trailer” silhouette shown.
  • When attaching minis, use tight whipstitches and anchor through multiple stitches so they stay aligned.
  • Keep seams straight. The photo shows clean edges and squared corners.

Color Guide (match the photo)

  • Aqua/Teal: main upper caravan body
  • Lavender: lower body band and some accents
  • Cream fluffy: roof border trim
  • Light gray + dark gray: oven unit and window trim
  • Purple + yellow: pasque flowers
  • Pale pink: flower pot and chef apron gradient
  • Black/white: wheels and small details

Part 1: Caravan Base Panels (3.25 mm hook)

1A. Floor Panel

With teal (or a neutral base color), ch 46 (adjust length if you prefer). Work in rows.

  1. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (45). ch 1, turn.
  2. Rows 2–18: sc across (45). ch 1, turn.

Fasten off. This rectangle supports the whole caravan. If using plastic canvas, cut an insert the same size.

1B. Left Side Wall (oven side)

This side shows a smaller opening with the oven and counter. With teal, ch 46.

  1. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch and across (45). ch 1, turn.
  2. Rows 2–10: sc across. ch 1, turn.
  3. Row 11: sc 6, ch 18, skip 18, sc to end (window opening begins) (27 sc plus ch-space). ch 1, turn.
  4. Row 12: sc across, placing sc stitches into the 18 ch (45). ch 1, turn.
  5. Rows 13–20: sc across (45). ch 1, turn.

Switch to lavender for the lower band to match the photo.

  1. Rows 21–30: sc across (45). ch 1, turn.

Fasten off. You now have a side wall with a centered/upper opening. Adjust opening placement if needed so the oven sits comfortably inside.

1C. Right Side Wall (main service window)

This wall has the large open “shop” window that shows shelves and curtains. With teal, ch 46.

  1. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch and across (45). ch 1, turn.
  2. Rows 2–6: sc across. ch 1, turn.
  3. Row 7: sc 5, ch 35, skip 35, sc 5 (large opening). ch 1, turn.
  4. Row 8: sc 5, then work 35 sc into ch-space, sc 5 (45). ch 1, turn.
  5. Rows 9–20: sc across (45). ch 1, turn.

Switch to lavender for the lower band.

  1. Rows 21–32: sc across (45). ch 1, turn.

Fasten off. The opening should feel wide and tall, like in the photo.

1D. Back Wall

With teal, ch 30 (depth panel).

  1. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch and across (29). ch 1, turn.
  2. Rows 2–20: sc across (29). ch 1, turn.

Switch to lavender.

  1. Rows 21–32: sc across (29). ch 1, turn.

Fasten off.

1E. Front Nose + Hitch Side (short front wall)

The photo shows a small front extension to the right (hitch). You can keep it simple: a short front wall and a hitch bar.

With teal, ch 18.

  1. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch and across (17). ch 1, turn.
  2. Rows 2–14: sc across (17). ch 1, turn.

Switch to lavender.

  1. Rows 15–20: sc across (17). ch 1, turn.

Fasten off. This creates a partial front wall; the open “front” area is visually implied by the windowed sides.

Part 2: Roof & Fluffy Trim (3.25 mm + 2.75 mm)

2A. Roof Panel

The roof curves softly. Build a flat roof and shape it during assembly.

With teal, ch 46.

  1. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch and across (45). ch 1, turn.
  2. Rows 2–18: sc across (45). ch 1, turn.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

2B. Roof Edge Band

With lavender, work an edging around the roof to mimic the subtle border under the fluffy trim.

  1. Join lavender anywhere on roof edge. sc evenly around all sides, placing 3 sc in each corner.
  2. Finish with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.

2C. Fluffy “Frosted” Trim (2.75 mm hook)

Use cream eyelash/faux-fur yarn. Work one long strip and sew it around the roof perimeter.

  1. Ch 120–150 (enough to wrap the roof edge). Keep chains loose so the fur can fluff.
  2. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch and across. ch 1, turn.
  3. Row 2: sc across. Fasten off.

Do not worry if stitches look uneven; fluff yarn hides it. Sew the strip around the roof edge so it drapes slightly over the teal walls, like in the photo.

Part 3: Assembly of Caravan Shell

Use a tapestry needle and matching yarn. If using plastic canvas, insert pieces as you sew.

  1. Attach side walls to floor: align edges; whipstitch through both loops, stitch-by-stitch.
  2. Attach back wall: join to floor and side walls, keeping corners squared.
  3. Attach front short wall: sew to floor on the right-front area to suggest the hitch side.
  4. Attach roof: center roof panel on top. Sew along top edges. Slightly curve it by easing the roof into place.
  5. Add fluffy trim: stitch the cream fur strip along the roof perimeter, letting it “spill” over the edge.

When the shell is assembled, you should have a pastel caravan with two main window openings and a soft, cozy roof border.

Part 4: Window Frames & Interior Trim (2.75 mm hook)

4A. Right Window Frame (service opening)

With aqua/teal, work a firm border that thickens the window edge.

  1. Join yarn at a corner of the opening. sc evenly around the opening, placing 3 sc at corners.
  2. Rnd 2: sc around again for thickness. Fasten off.

4B. Left Window Frame (oven opening)

With dark gray, repeat the same method but only one round for a slimmer trim.

  1. Join at opening corner. sc evenly around, 3 sc at corners. Fasten off.

4C. Interior Back “Tile” Panel (optional, 2.75 mm hook)

To mimic the neat interior wall behind the shelves, crochet a panel and sew it inside the caravan back wall.

With teal, ch 28.

  1. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch and across (27). ch 1, turn.
  2. Rows 2–18: sc across. Fasten off.

Part 5: Bakery Sign & Awning (2.75 mm hook)

5A. Sign Base

The sign is a rounded rectangle with a purple border and “BAKERY” lettering.

With lavender, ch 16.

  1. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch and across (15). ch 1, turn.
  2. Rows 2–4: sc across (15). ch 1, turn.

Do not fasten off. Work sc evenly around the rectangle, 3 sc in corners. Switch to light purple (or darker lavender) for one more round to create a border. Fasten off.

For lettering, embroider BAKERY with dark brown or black yarn, centered. Keep letters simple block style so they read clearly at miniature scale.

5B. Awning (striped look)

The awning is white with lavender vertical stripes and a scalloped edge.

With white, ch 26.

  1. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch and across (25). ch 1, turn.
  2. Row 2: sc 2 in white, switch to lavender sc 1, switch to white sc 2; repeat across for subtle stripes. ch 1, turn.
  3. Row 3: sc across in white (25). ch 1, turn.
  4. Row 4 (scallop edge): (sl st 1, skip 1, 5 dc in next st, skip 1) repeat across. End with sl st. Fasten off.

Sew the awning above the left opening, slightly angled outward. If you want stiffness, stitch a thin strip of plastic canvas behind the top edge.

Part 6: Pasque Flowers Appliqués (2.25 mm hook)

These purple flowers appear on the roofline and corners, each with a yellow center and small green leaves.

6A. Flower (make 8–10)

With purple, make a magic ring.

  1. Rnd 1: 6 sc in ring. sl st to join (6).
  2. Rnd 2: (ch 2, dc, ch 2, sl st in same st) repeat in each st around to form 6 petals.

Fasten off purple. With yellow, join in center and make: ch 1, 6 sl st around the center ring. Fasten off.

6B. Leaves (make 1–2 per flower)

With light green, ch 6.

  1. In 2nd ch: sl st, sc, hdc, dc, in last ch: (dc, ch 1, dc) to turn the tip.
  2. Work back down other side: dc, hdc, sc, sl st. Fasten off.

6C. Placement

  • Sew 3–4 flowers along the roof top ridge.
  • Sew 2 flowers at front-left corner and side edges.
  • Add one larger flower near the sign, like the photo.
  • Attach leaves tucked under petals for a natural “spring” feel.

The oven looks like a dark gray box with a black “window.”

With dark gray, ch 16.

  1. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch and across (15). ch 1, turn.
  2. Rows 2–8: sc across (15). ch 1, turn.

Fold into a box. Sew side seams to form a rectangular prism. Stuff lightly to hold shape. Make a black window panel: ch 10, sc 9 for 4 rows. Sew centered on the front.

Add a light gray trim by surface slip stitching a rectangle around the black window. Keep corners squared for a “mini appliance” look.

8C. Side Worktop Inside (2.75 mm hook)

Inside the left opening, the photo shows a small worktop with tools.

With beige, ch 18.

  1. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch and across (17). ch 1, turn.
  2. Rows 2–2: sc across. Fasten off.

Sew this worktop inside, aligned behind the front pastry shelf, so the oven sits above and the work area is visible.

8D. Rolling Pin (2.25 mm hook)

With tan, ch 10.

  1. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch and across (9). Fasten off.

Roll tightly into a tube and stitch closed. Add tiny handles with two small bobbles at each end (optional). Place on the interior worktop.

  • Set the table in front of the caravan, with two chairs angled toward it.
  • Stand the chef pup slightly right of center, in front of the service window.
  • Place the flower pot on the left front corner near the caravan.
  • Position the cake cart on the right side, with the cake on top and extra sweets on the shelf.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Steam-block the flat pieces lightly (avoid the fluffy trim). Re-check the caravan window edges for straight lines. Add blush to the chef pup with a tiny bit of pink embroidery or diluted fabric paint. Ensure eyes are level, nose centered, and the hat is anchored with a few hidden stitches.

Care Notes

  • Dust gently with a soft brush. The fluffy roof trim collects lint, so brush in one direction.
  • Spot clean with mild soap and cool water. Avoid soaking cardboard or plastic inserts.
  • Keep minis out of direct sunlight to prevent fading of pastel yarns.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • Roof trim evenly sewn around all edges
  • Sign centered and readable: BAKERY
  • Awning scallops facing downward and sitting slightly outward
  • Display shelves secure and pastries anchored
  • Chef pup stands steadily with shoes aligned
  • Flowers placed across roofline and corners like the photo

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

For long-term display, store in a closed cabinet or clear box to reduce dust. If you must wash any piece, detach minis first when possible. Hand wash only the soft parts, reshape while damp, and air dry fully. Never heat-dry fluffy yarn; it can mat and lose the frosted look.
