Design Notes

The doll in the image has a calm, rounded silhouette. The head is softly oval, the muzzle is gently built out rather than sharply protruding, and the body widens into a skirted dress. The arms are short and slightly curved inward. The ears fall low and wide beneath the hat brim.

The outfit is layered. First make the bunny body and limbs. Then add the lilac dress, cream jacket, wide-brim hat, shoes, flower trims, and garden accessories. The flowers are very important in this design, so keep them flat, neat, and evenly spaced.

Work in continuous rounds unless a row is clearly stated. Mark the first stitch of each round. Stuff as you go, especially the head, upper body, and feet. Firm stuffing helps the bunny hold the same compact, display-ready proportions seen in the image.

Main Bunny Legs and Feet

Make 2 in cream. Start at the sole so the feet sit flat and slightly forward. The feet in the image are small, rounded, and mostly hidden by the shoes, so do not make them long.

  1. Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc.
  2. Rnd 2: inc around. (12)
  3. Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x6. (18)
  4. Rnd 4: 18 sc in BLO.
  5. Rnd 5: 18 sc.
  6. Rnd 6: 5 sc, 4 dec, 5 sc. (14)
  7. Rnd 7: 4 sc, 3 dec, 4 sc. (11)
  8. Stuff toe area firmly.
  9. Rnd 8-15: 11 sc.

Fasten off the first leg. Make the second leg but do not fasten off. Add a little extra stuffing at the foot and lower ankle so the bunny can stand balanced when supported by the skirt and tail area.

Main Bunny Body

Join the legs. The body should be gently pear-shaped, not cylindrical. It needs enough width to support the dress but still look like a rabbit beneath the clothing.

  1. Rnd 16: ch 3 and join to first leg, sc in each st around first leg, 3 sc in chain, sc around second leg, 3 sc on other side of chain. (28)
  2. Rnd 17: 28 sc.
  3. Rnd 18: (6 sc, inc) x4. (32)
  4. Rnd 19-22: 32 sc.
  5. Rnd 23: (6 sc, dec) x4. (28)
  6. Rnd 24: 28 sc.
  7. Rnd 25: (5 sc, dec) x4. (24)
  8. Rnd 26: 24 sc.
  9. Rnd 27: (4 sc, dec) x4. (20)

Stuff the lower body firmly, but do not overstuff the upper chest. The image shows a soft front curve under the jacket, so the body should stay rounded rather than hard.

Main Bunny Head

The head is worked directly from the body. Keep the cheeks full. The face should sit low under the hat brim with a compact muzzle and widely spaced eyes.

  1. Rnd 28: (3 sc, inc) x5. (25)
  2. Rnd 29: (4 sc, inc) x5. (30)
  3. Rnd 30: (5 sc, inc) x5. (35)
  4. Rnd 31: (6 sc, inc) x5. (40)
  5. Rnd 32-38: 40 sc.
  6. Insert 6 mm safety eyes between rnds 35 and 36, about 8 stitches apart.
  7. Rnd 39: (6 sc, dec) x5. (35)
  8. Rnd 40: (5 sc, dec) x5. (30)
  9. Rnd 41: (4 sc, dec) x5. (25)

Begin stuffing the head very firmly. Shape the cheeks with your fingers while filling. Continue:

  1. Rnd 42: (3 sc, dec) x5. (20)
  2. Rnd 43: (2 sc, dec) x5. (15)
  3. Rnd 44: (sc, dec) x5. (10)
  4. Rnd 45: dec around. (5)

Fasten off and close.

Muzzle Shaping and Face

Thread cream or pale beige yarn and make one horizontal sculpting pass across the lower face to create the soft triangular muzzle area. Embroider a small upside-down triangle nose centered between the eyes, about 3 rounds below them.

Use dark brown thread to stitch a short vertical line down from the nose and then two tiny angled lines for the mouth. Add a faint beige outline at the muzzle sides if you want the same softly defined face visible in the image.

Main Bunny Arms

Make 2 in cream. These arms are plump and short, with slightly flattened ends. They sit low beside the dress and jacket, angled inward.

  1. Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc.
  2. Rnd 2: inc around. (12)
  3. Rnd 3-5: 12 sc.
  4. Rnd 6: (2 sc, dec) x3. (9)
  5. Rnd 7-14: 9 sc.

Stuff only the lower half. Flatten the opening and close with 4 sc through both sides, or sew closed later. Leave a long tail for sewing.

Main Bunny Ears

Make 2 outer ears in cream and 2 inner ears in pale beige or blush. The ears in the image are long, soft, and droop from under the hat, with wide bases and rounded tips.

Outer Ear x2

  1. Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc.
  2. Rnd 2: inc around. (12)
  3. Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x6. (18)
  4. Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x6. (24)
  5. Rnd 5-16: 24 sc.
  6. Rnd 17: (2 sc, dec) x6. (18)
  7. Rnd 18-20: 18 sc.

Inner Ear x2

Work rows in an oval shape or simply crochet a flat insert to fit the outer ear. Stitch the inner ear to the outer ear. Fold the ear base lightly so it curves downward. Do not stuff.

Sew the ears to the head at about rnd 31 to 32, positioned wide so they fall beside the face. They should extend nearly to the lower chest once attached and draped.

Tail

In cream: MR, 6 sc; rnd 2 inc around to 12; rnd 3 12 sc. Stuff lightly and sew to the back, low enough to hide beneath the skirt but high enough to support the silhouette.

Lilac Dress Base

The dress is the central visual feature. It has a gently widening shape, a smooth skirt, and a floral hem. Work it as a separate garment that slips onto the body, or attach at the waist if you prefer a fixed outfit.

  1. With lilac, ch 24 and join carefully, or start with 24 foundation sc.
  2. Rnd 1-3: 24 sc.
  3. Rnd 4: (5 sc, inc) x4. (28)
  4. Rnd 5-6: 28 sc.
  5. Rnd 7: (6 sc, inc) x4. (32)
  6. Rnd 8-9: 32 sc.
  7. Rnd 10: (7 sc, inc) x4. (36)
  8. Rnd 11-12: 36 sc.
  9. Rnd 13: (8 sc, inc) x4. (40)
  10. Rnd 14-16: 40 sc.

Check fit often. The dress should skim the body, not cling tightly. The top edge must sit high on the chest because the image shows a modest apron-style front panel under the flower yoke.

Scalloped Hem

Join lilac at the hem. Work: sl st in first st, skip 1, 5 dc in next st, skip 1, sl st in next. Repeat around. This gives the rounded soft edging seen at the bottom of the skirt.

Flower Yoke and Hem Flowers

The floral trimming makes this bunny instantly recognizable. You need small flat flowers in purple and blue tones with tiny yellow or purple centers. Make at least 14 to 18 flowers for the full set.

Small Five-Petal Flower

  1. With flower color, MR.
  2. Into ring work: (ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, sl st) x5.
  3. Pull ring tight and fasten off.

For smaller flowers, replace 2 dc with 2 hdc. Embroider a tiny yellow center knot, or use a contrasting purple center for some blooms.

Sew 4 or 5 flowers across the upper dress front to create the garden yoke. Add tiny green stitches between them for stems or leaves. Then sew a continuous row of flowers all around the hem, alternating purples and blues.

Cream Jacket

The jacket is short, collarless, and open at the front, with rounded fronts that drape over the dress. It ends above the skirt flare. Make it in turned rows.

  1. With cream, ch 26.
  2. Row 1: sc across. (25)
  3. Row 2-3: ch 1, turn, sc across.
  4. Row 4: sc 5, dec, sc 11, dec, sc 5. (23)
  5. Row 5: sc across.
  6. Row 6: sc 4, dec, sc 11, dec, sc 4. (21)
  7. Row 7-8: sc across.

Split for fronts and back if you want a tailored shape, or keep simple and shape by sewing. Add short sleeves directly around arm openings with 10 to 12 sc per round for 4 rounds. The sleeves should end at the forearm, matching the picture.

Add 1 round of edge sc all around the jacket fronts and neckline. Slightly curve the front corners inward while stitching them down. Sew tiny flowers near the outer sleeves, one cluster on each side.

Hat

The hat is a soft cloche shape with a downward brim. It should sit low enough to frame the face and partly cover the ear tops. Make in cream.

  1. Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc.
  2. Rnd 2: inc around. (12)
  3. Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x6. (18)
  4. Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x6. (24)
  5. Rnd 5: (3 sc, inc) x6. (30)
  6. Rnd 6: (4 sc, inc) x6. (36)
  7. Rnd 7: (5 sc, inc) x6. (42)
  8. Rnd 8-12: 42 sc.
  9. Rnd 13: (6 sc, inc) x6. (48)
  10. Rnd 14: 48 sc.
  11. Rnd 15: (7 sc, inc) x6. (54)
  12. Rnd 16-17: 54 sc.

If you want more flare, add one more increase round. The brim should gently bend downward, not stand stiffly outward. Sew one medium purple flower with a lilac lower petal layer and tiny yellow center onto one side of the hat.

Shoes

Make 2 in lilac. These are simple mary-jane style slippers that cover the feet and include a narrow strap.

  1. Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc.
  2. Rnd 2: inc around. (12)
  3. Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x6. (18)
  4. Rnd 4: 18 sc in BLO.
  5. Rnd 5: 18 sc.
  6. Rnd 6: 5 sc, 4 dec, 5 sc. (14)
  7. Rnd 7: 14 sc.

Fasten off. Stitch the shoe onto the foot. Add a small strap by chaining 8 to 10 and sewing across the top front of each shoe. Keep the strap delicate so the bunny still looks soft and elegant.

Mini Bunny

The mini bunny repeats the same styling in a simplified form: cream body, lilac dress, cream jacket, tiny hat, and small drooping ears. Keep the proportions chubby and sweet rather than slim.

Mini Body and Head

  1. Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc.
  2. Rnd 2: inc around. (12)
  3. Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x6. (18)
  4. Rnd 4-6: 18 sc.
  5. Rnd 7: (4 sc, dec) x3. (15)
  6. Rnd 8: (2 sc, dec) x3. (9)
  7. Rnd 9: (sc, inc) x4, sc. (13)
  8. Rnd 10: (inc, sc) x6, sc. (19)
  9. Rnd 11-14: 19 sc.
  10. Rnd 15: (sc, dec) x6, sc. (13)
  11. Rnd 16: dec around with one extra sc if needed. Close.

Add tiny ears, simple arms, and stub legs. Use embroidered eyes or 4 mm safety eyes. Make a plain lilac wrap dress and a very small cream jacket. Add one tiny flower on the mini hat brim.

Backpack

The backpack is boxy with a front pocket, long side straps, and an open top flap standing upward, just like the image. Work in cream with tight stitches.

  1. Base: ch 8. Work around chain to form an oval rectangle, about 18 sts around.
  2. Rnd 2-6: sc in BLO for rnd 2, then sc evenly for sides.
  3. Front pocket: ch 6, work 5 sc for 4 rows, then sew to front.
  4. Top flap: attach yarn to back top edge, ch 1, sc across 8 sts for 7 rows.

Add two long chains or narrow rows for straps and a small loop handle at the top. Lightly stuff the backpack or place folded felt inside so it holds its square shape.

Seed Packet

Make a tiny cream rectangle with a flap. The packet in the image is flat and printed with the words “AUBRIETA SEEDS,” plus a tiny flower illustration.

  1. Ch 7.
  2. Row 1-10: 6 sc, turn.
  3. Fold lower part upward and stitch sides, leaving a top flap.

Embroider or surface stitch the text in very small letters, or use fabric-safe pen after testing first. Add a tiny purple flower motif on the front.

Shovel

The shovel is short with a tan handle and soft gray scoop. This accessory helps complete the garden theme without distracting from the bunny.

  • Handle: ch 10 with tan, sl st back or work a narrow i-cord style chain
  • Blade: with gray, MR 4 sc, then increase into a small rounded triangle shape for 3 to 4 rows
  • Sew the blade to the handle end securely

Flower Bouquet

Make 7 to 9 small flowers in purple and blue tones. Add tiny leaves behind some of them. Bundle together with green yarn wraps. Keep the bouquet low and rounded, as shown in the image, rather than tall like a long-stem bunch.

Assembly

  1. Sew arms to the body just below the neck, angled inward.
  2. Sew ears to the head wide apart and let them drape.
  3. Add tail to the back.
  4. Dress the bunny in the lilac dress.
  5. Sew flower yoke and hem flowers in place.
  6. Add the cream jacket and tack lightly at shoulders if needed.
  7. Sew or slip on the shoes.
  8. Place the hat low on the head and tack with a few hidden stitches.

Arrange the backpack, seed packet, shovel, bouquet, and mini bunny beside the main doll. The completed set should look soft, coordinated, and garden-themed, with cream as the main base and lilac-purple floral accents throughout.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Check that the eyes sit evenly under the brim and that the nose is centered. Gently pinch the cheeks to keep the muzzle round. If needed, add tiny stitches at the ear bases so they fall forward naturally. Keep the expression calm, sweet, and simple.

Care Notes

Display indoors and avoid prolonged direct sunlight to protect the lilac and purple shades. If giving as a child’s toy, embroider eyes instead of using safety eyes. Handle the flower trims gently, since small layered appliqués can loosen with rough play.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • Hat brim curves downward softly
  • Ears hang below the hat
  • Dress flares gently and sits high on the chest
  • Flower yoke is centered
  • Hem flowers are evenly spaced
  • Jacket fronts curve neatly
  • Shoes sit level
  • Mini bunny matches the same color story
  • Backpack, seed packet, shovel, and bouquet are all included

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Spot clean first using a damp cloth and mild soap. For deeper cleaning, hand wash gently in cool water and press between towels. Do not wring. Reshape the hat brim, ears, jacket, and flowers while damp, then air dry flat. Store in a dust-free box to preserve the form.
