Materials
- Main horse color A: pastel sky blue cotton yarn, DK or light worsted
- Contrast color B: warm cream or light beige cotton yarn, DK or light worsted
- Accent color C: taupe or light mocha for mane, flowers, purse, basket, and watering can
- Accent color D: small amount of white for flowers
- Accent color E: small amount of medium blue for flower centers and tiny details
- Accent color F: very small amount of pinkish red or red gingham fabric for basket lining if desired
- Crochet hook: 2.25 mm to 3.0 mm, choose a size that gives very tight stitches
- Safety eyes: 8 mm to 10 mm black
- Fiberfill stuffing
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers
- Sewing pins or clips
- 2 small flat wooden-look buttons for the muzzle sides
- Thin floral wire or pipe cleaner optional for basket handle shaping
Suggested Finished Size
Using DK cotton yarn and a 2.5 mm hook, the finished horse sits at approximately 10 to 12 inches tall from the seat to the top of the ears.
The hat is sized to sit beside the doll, not tightly worn on the head in the photographed arrangement. The purse is a miniature decorative accessory. The basket and watering can are also decorative mini props.
Gauge and Construction Notes
This doll is worked mostly in continuous spirals unless a row clearly says to join. Use a stitch marker in the first stitch of every round.
The horse has a large oval muzzle, rounded head, medium neck, pear-shaped seated body, slim striped arms, and longer striped legs with large oval blue feet. The dress is built onto the body shape so the skirt spreads gently when seated.
Stuff firmly but not rock hard. The photographed doll has a polished, smooth silhouette, so take extra time to shape the muzzle, forehead, neck base, thighs, and feet as you stuff.

Insert safety eyes between R16 and R17, spaced about 11 to 13 stitches apart. The eyes should sit above the muzzle line and fairly centered, with a calm, sweet expression.
Join Muzzle to Head
Pin the open edge of the muzzle onto the lower front of the head. The muzzle should cover the lower half of the face and sit very prominently forward.
Sew the muzzle in place carefully. Add stuffing as you close. Shape it so the front is smooth and rounded, not pointed. The seam should sit evenly all around.
Once attached, use your fingers to flatten the top join slightly so the face transitions softly from forehead into muzzle.
Head Lower Closing and Neck Opening
Continue from the head piece if you left a working loop, or rejoin yarn at the lower opening if preferred.

Angle the bases slightly outward so they match the photo.

- For each curl, ch 16.
- Starting in 2nd ch from hook, work 2 sc in each ch across. (30)
This creates a tight spiral. Make several curls in taupe. Stitch them along one long side of the base strip so they bunch together as a forelock.
Sew the completed forelock strip across the top front of the head between the ears, slightly closer to the right side if you want to mimic the photographed placement.
Tiny Flowers for Mane and Dress

Stuff the foot firmly, the leg moderately. Flatten the opening and sew closed. Attach each leg low on the front body so they angle outward naturally in a seated position.
The feet should face slightly upward and outward, like the photo.
Button Details on the Muzzle
Sew one small flat button to each side of the muzzle, positioned symmetrically midway between the side seam and front center. They should sit low on the muzzle and act as decorative cheek details.
Make sure the buttons are secure. For child-safe display, replace them with embroidered circles if needed.
Crossbody Purse
The purse is a small taupe rectangular flap bag with a thin strap and one white flower. It should sit diagonally across the body from shoulder to hip.

Blue Hat
The hat is a rounded cloche-style accessory with a short brim and a decorative band. In the photo it sits next to the doll, so it does not need to fit tightly over the ears.

Dress Flower Placement
To match the image, add three floral embellishments across the lower skirt area, slightly off-center. Use a mix of one white flower, one cream flower, and one taupe rosette or small neutral flower.
Keep them low and delicate. They should decorate the skirt without covering the stripes.
Assembly Order
- Sew muzzle to head and insert eyes.
- Finish closing and stuffing the head.
- Sew ears to the crown.
- Sew mane and flowers between the ears.
- Make body and attach the head.
- Attach arms to upper sides of body.
- Attach legs low on the front for a seated pose.
- Work skirt overlay and shape it neatly around the body.
- Add cheek buttons to the muzzle.
- Make and attach the purse strap and purse.
- Make hat, basket, and watering can.
- Sew final flower details to mane, purse, and skirt.
Shaping Tips for an Accurate Look
- Muzzle: keep very round and full, with a smooth front spiral visible
- Head: slightly taller than wide once ears are attached
- Ears: upright, angled outward
- Body: stable sitting base with a gently narrowed chest
- Legs: longer than arms, slightly splayed
- Feet: large, blue, rounded soles facing partly upward
- Dress: soft flare, not stiff
- Purse: diagonal placement across chest and lap
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Check that the eyes sit evenly above the muzzle and that the ears match in height and angle. If you want extra softness, add a tiny embroidered nose line in matching taupe or cream, kept very subtle so the clean muzzle remains the main feature.
Brush the mane curls gently with your fingers and adjust the flowers so they frame the forehead. Shape the cheeks, neck, and feet by hand before the final display.
Care Notes
Display pieces with sewn buttons, flowers, and miniature props are best kept as decorative items. Avoid rough pulling on the purse strap, basket handle, and watering can spout.
If gifting to a child, replace hard embellishments with fully embroidered details for better safety.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- Head firmly stuffed and balanced
- Muzzle centered and symmetrical
- Eyes evenly placed
- Ears sewn at matching angles
- Arms and legs aligned for a seated pose
- Dress skirt evenly flared
- Purse strap length correct
- Hat band attached neatly
- Basket and watering can stable
- All flower appliques secured tightly
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Spot clean gently with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not soak if wooden buttons, fabric lining, or internal shaping are used. Blot excess moisture with a towel and reshape the muzzle, ears, skirt, and feet while damp.
Let the doll air dry fully away from direct heat and strong sun. Store in a clean, dry place to preserve the cotton yarn texture and the crisp striped finish.
