This cheerful crochet duck is made with a tall yellow neck, rounded head, orange bill and legs, black sunglasses, blue-and-white striped overalls, beige sandals, a flower crown with tiny bees, and a small strawberry crossbody bag. The finished display also includes a matching striped sun hat, a tiny gray watering can, and a potted sunflower.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This pattern creates a seated amigurumi-style duck with a sunny garden outfit. The body is worked firmly so the long neck stands upright, while the clothing pieces are crocheted directly onto or sewn around the doll for a clean handmade finish.
The duck in the photo has a playful summer look. The overalls are softly rounded at the hips, striped evenly in pale blue and white, and decorated with small embroidered daisies. The accessories are important because they create the exact cool garden character: sunglasses, sandals, flower crown, bees, hat, bag, watering can, and sunflower pot.
Finished Size
- Duck height when seated: about 12 inches from sandal base to top of flower crown.
- Head width: about 4 inches across.
- Neck length: about 3.75 inches.
- Body width with overalls: about 4.25 inches.
- Leg length: about 3.5 inches from body to sandal.
- Sun hat diameter: about 5.25 inches.
- Watering can height: about 1.5 inches.
- Potted sunflower height: about 3 inches.
Skill Level
This is an intermediate crochet pattern, but confident beginners can follow it because every section is written step by step. You will use basic amigurumi shaping, color changes, surface crochet, simple embroidery, small appliqués, and careful sewing.
Materials
- Worsted weight cotton or cotton-blend yarn in bright yellow for head, neck, body, wings, and arms.
- Worsted weight yarn in orange for bill, legs, and duck feet.
- Worsted weight yarn in pale blue for overalls, hat stripes, and flower accents.
- Worsted weight yarn in white for overalls stripes, hat stripes, flowers, and bee wings.
- Worsted weight yarn in beige or natural tan for sandal soles, straps, bag, and hat trim.
- Small amounts of pink, light yellow, blue, green, red, black, brown, and gray yarn.
- 3.0 mm crochet hook for main amigurumi pieces.
- 2.5 mm crochet hook for flowers, bees, sunglasses, bag details, and small accessories.

- Stitch markers.
- Two small tan buttons, about 8 mm, for overall straps.

Abbreviations
- MR: magic ring
- ch: chain
- sl st: slip stitch
- sc: single crochet
- hdc: half double crochet
- dc: double crochet
- tr: treble crochet
- inc: 2 sc in the same stitch
- dec: invisible single crochet decrease
- BLO: back loop only
- FLO: front loop only

Gauge Notes
Use tight amigurumi tension so the stuffing does not show. With worsted weight yarn and a 3.0 mm hook, 6 sc across should measure about 1 inch. Exact gauge is less important than firm fabric, but all parts should be crocheted with consistent tension.
The duck should feel structured, not floppy. If your stitches are loose, go down to a 2.75 mm hook. If your fabric becomes too stiff to shape, use a 3.25 mm hook only for the overalls and hat.
Important Construction Notes
- Work most amigurumi pieces in continuous spiral rounds unless the pattern says to join.
- Stuff the head firmly, the neck very firmly, and the body medium-firm.
- The duck sits with both orange legs hanging forward from the lower body.
- The bill points straight forward and slightly downward, with a softly flattened oval shape.
- The sunglasses sit across the upper bill line, slightly tilted downward at the outer corners.
- The flower crown sits around the top front of the head, not fully centered like a hat.

- Sew one small tan button at each front bib corner over the strap ends.
Small Daisy Embroidery on Overalls
The overalls have tiny daisies on the front. Use white, yellow, and green yarn or embroidery thread. Keep the flowers small so they do not overpower the stripes.

- Repeat around until you have 18 petals.
- FO and weave in ends.
- Sew the flower head to the top of the green stem.
Joining the Duck
Before sewing, pin every part in place. This step is important because the final doll depends on the tall vertical neck, centered face, and seated leg position. View the duck from the front and side before making permanent stitches.
- Sew the neck to the top center of the body. Use yellow yarn and firm whipstitches around all 18 neck stitches.
- Sew the head to the top of the neck. The bill area must face directly forward.
- Add extra stitches at the back of the neck to stop the head from tilting backward.
- Sew the legs to the lower front of the body, spaced about 1.25 inches apart.
- Sew the orange feet to the bottoms of the legs, pointing forward.
- Place each sandal under a foot and sew the sole edge to the orange foot underside.
- Pull the overalls onto the body before attaching the wings if you made them removable.
- Sew the overall waist lightly to the body in 6 hidden points: front, back, both sides, and near each hip.
- Sew the wings to the sides of the body over the overall edges.
- Sew the bill, sunglasses, crown, bees, bag, and final details last.
Facial Placement Guide
- Bill: Center between head rounds R15 and R19.
- Sunglasses: Place across head rounds R12 to R16, overlapping the top bill edge.
- Flower crown: Place across rounds R4 to R8 at the top front of the head.
- Bees: Place one bee near the upper left flower cluster and one near the upper right cluster.
- No visible eyes: The sunglasses cover the eye area completely, matching the photo.
Optional Firm Neck Stabilizer
The large head can make the neck lean if the stuffing is too soft. For a display doll, place a folded chenille stem or soft craft wire through the body, neck, and lower head before sewing the head closed. Always fold wire ends inward for safety.
Finishing the Overalls on the Duck
After the body is assembled, adjust the striped overalls so the bib sits centered below the neck. The shorts should puff slightly at the hips. The leg openings should sit above the orange legs, letting the legs hang clearly from the bottom.
- Use hidden stitches in matching yarn to secure the bib to the yellow chest.
- Keep the beige waistband visible all the way around.
- Sew buttons over the front strap ends only after the straps are aligned.
- Add daisy embroidery after the overalls are fully attached, so the flowers face forward correctly.
Making the Duck Sit Correctly
The doll in the image sits on a table edge with the legs hanging down. To create this posture, sew the legs to the lower front body instead of the very bottom. The body base should rest on the surface, while the legs extend forward and downward.
- Sew each leg top flat against the body at a slight forward angle.
- Leave about 5 stitches of space between the legs.
- Attach the feet so the toes point upward slightly.
- Flatten the sandal soles gently with your fingers after sewing.
Accessory Placement
Place the sun hat beside the duck rather than on the head. In the photo, the duck wears the flower crown and sunglasses, while the matching hat rests nearby as a garden prop. This makes the full scene more playful and detailed.
- Set the striped hat on the duck’s left side.
- Place the watering can near the duck’s right foot.
- Place the potted sunflower slightly behind or beside the watering can.
- Angle the strawberry bag so it crosses from shoulder to opposite hip.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Check that the head, neck, and body line up vertically. The duck should look tall and confident, with the sunglasses centered and the bill peeking out below them. Use small hidden stitches to correct any leaning before trimming yarn tails.
- Sew all loose accessories securely if the toy will be handled.
- Hide knots under flowers, behind straps, or inside seams.
- Brush away loose fibers from the sunglasses so the black lenses look clean.
- Shape the bill by pinching the sides gently and flattening the front curve.
- Adjust the flower crown so the center daisy sits above the bridge of the sunglasses.
Care Notes
This crochet duck is best used as a decorative handmade piece. Because it includes buttons, small flowers, bees, sandals, and appliqués, it is not intended for babies or pets. Display it on a shelf, craft table, nursery shelf, or garden-themed décor area.
- Spot clean with cool water and mild soap.
- Do not machine wash if wire, buttons, or glued pieces are used.
- Let the doll air dry fully before storing.
- Reshape the hat brim and bill while damp if needed.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- The head is round, yellow, and larger than the body.
- The neck is long, straight, and firmly stuffed.
- The bill is orange, wide, and slightly flattened.
- The sunglasses are black and cover the eye area.
- The overalls have blue-and-white stripes with a beige waistband.
- The front bib has two small buttons and tiny daisy embroidery.
- The legs are orange and hang forward from the seated body.
- The sandals are beige with tiny red ladybugs.
- The flower crown includes pastel flowers and two small bees.
- The strawberry bag crosses diagonally across the body.
- The striped sun hat, gray watering can, and potted sunflower are finished as matching props.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
To keep the crochet duck looking bright, store it away from direct sunlight when not on display. Yellow, orange, pale blue, and red yarns can fade if left in strong sunlight for long periods. A shaded shelf or covered display case is ideal.
Dust the doll gently with a soft makeup brush or clean paintbrush. Work around the sunglasses, flowers, bees, and bag carefully so the small pieces do not loosen. Avoid pulling on the overalls straps or flower crown while cleaning.
For deeper spot cleaning, dip a white cloth in cool water with a small amount of mild soap. Dab the stained area gently. Do not soak the head, neck, or body because heavy water can shift the stuffing and weaken shaped areas.
After cleaning, press the piece lightly in a towel and let it air dry flat. While it dries, reshape the bill, hat brim, sandal straps, and flower petals with your fingers. Make sure the neck remains upright until fully dry.
Store the accessories together with the duck in a breathable cotton bag or box. Avoid plastic storage in humid rooms because trapped moisture can affect cotton yarn. Add tissue paper around the sunglasses and flower crown to protect their shapes.
Final Styling Tips
For the closest match to the pictured design, keep the colors cheerful and soft. The duck should feel like a sunny handmade garden friend: bright yellow body, orange bill and legs, cool black glasses, pastel flowers, striped blue overalls, and tiny summer accessories.
- Use matte cotton yarn for a clean stitch texture.
- Keep the sunglasses slightly oversized for the cool character style.
- Make the overalls rounded and roomy, not tight.
- Keep all flowers small and layered across the head.
- Display the hat, watering can, and sunflower close to the duck for the complete scene.
