Gauge and Texture Notes

The doll in the image has a firm amigurumi texture with visible, even single crochet rows. Work tightly enough that stuffing does not show. The bark-colored body should look smooth but slightly organic, so do not over-stuff the head into a perfect ball. Shape it gently into a rounded cylinder with fuller cheeks and a scalloped crown.

Use the yarn-under single crochet method if you want the neat stacked stitches shown in the photo. If you crochet loosely, use a smaller hook. The head and body are worked in spirals, while the overalls are built directly around the body for a fitted garden romper look.

Pattern Notes

  • Work in continuous rounds unless a section says to join.
  • Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round.
  • Stuff gradually and firmly, especially the neck, legs, and head.
  • The head is crocheted in bark tan first, then crown points and leaves are added separately.
  • The green overalls are crocheted as shorts and a bib over the tan body.
  • Small accessories are sewn on last so you can adjust the final placement.

Head

Use warm bark tan yarn and a 2.5 mm hook. The head is wide at the cheeks, slightly tall, and open at the top so the crown points can create the cut wood-sprout shape.

Facial Embroidery

Use black embroidery thread for the smile. Place the smile between R18 and R19 of the head. The smile should be small, soft, and slightly curved upward, about 8 stitches wide.

  1. Insert the needle behind the head and bring it out at the left smile point.
  2. Make one gentle curved stitch to the right smile point.
  3. Anchor the curve with one tiny couching stitch at the center.
  4. Pull gently so the smile curves naturally without puckering the face.

Add a tiny white highlight to each safety eye if you use plain black sew-on eyes. Place the highlight on the upper outer area of each eye for the glossy expression seen in the image.

Assembly Order

  1. Sew the head to the neck securely, keeping the face centered.
  2. Sew the legs under the body, about 8 stitches apart, so they hang straight downward.
  3. Fit the green overalls over the body and secure the waistband invisibly.
  4. Sew the arms to the sides at R18-R20 of the body, just under the head.
  5. Sew the overall bib and straps in place, then add the wooden buttons.
  6. Add the pocket, embroidery, and lower flower details to the overalls.
  7. Sew the crown points around the top of the head, placing the tallest point in front.
  8. Sew the green leaves behind and between the crown points.
  9. Add the white daisy to the upper right side of the head.
  10. Place the bag strap over the shoulder and sew the bag lightly to the hip.
  11. Sew sandals and toe straps onto the feet.
  12. Arrange the hat, watering can, and potted plant as separate display pieces.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Check the doll from the front before tying off final threads. The head should be large and expressive, the overalls should sit snugly around the rounded belly, and the legs should hang evenly over the edge when the doll is seated.

Use long pins to test the crown points before sewing. The tallest point belongs near the center front, with medium points around it and shorter points toward the sides. Add the green leaves last so they peek out naturally.

The face is intentionally simple. Large glossy eyes, a small curved smile, and the white daisy create the gentle garden character. Avoid adding heavy blush or extra features because the clean expression is part of the image’s charm.

Care Notes

  • Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap.
  • Do not soak if using safety eyes, wooden buttons, or cardboard inside the accessories.
  • Let the doll air dry flat on a towel.
  • Reshape the crown points, hat brim, and leaves while damp.
  • Keep away from pets that may chew small accessories.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • Head: rounded cheeks, tall crown points, green sprout leaves, and white daisy on the right side.
  • Face: large black eyes placed low and evenly, with a small embroidered smile.
  • Outfit: moss green overalls, shoulder straps, wooden buttons, blue pocket, and flower embroidery.
  • Accessories: brown sunflower bag, straw hat with blue tie, gray watering can, and terracotta potted plant.
  • Feet: five toe bumps on each foot, brown sandals, and tiny side leaves.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Store the doll upright or seated so the crown points do not bend for long periods. If a point flattens, lightly mist it with water, reshape it with your fingers, and allow it to dry naturally.

For display, keep the doll out of direct sunlight to protect the green overalls, brown bag, and blue hat ribbon from fading. Dust gently with a soft brush, especially around the daisy, leaf clusters, and embroidered flowers.

If the doll is made for a child, replace safety eyes and buttons with embroidered details. Sew all accessories firmly and avoid wire, cardboard, or removable small parts. For decorative use, the separate garden accessories can be arranged beside the doll for the full image-inspired display.
