Gauge and Construction Notes
Use a firm amigurumi gauge so the stuffing does not show through. With the suggested hook, 6 sc and 7 rounds should measure about 1 inch. The elephant is crocheted tightly in continuous spiral rounds unless a section says to join.
The head and body are made separately and sewn together at a slight forward angle. This creates the relaxed lying-doll look seen in the image while still allowing the elephant to sit when supported. The cardigan, overalls, sandals, bag, hat, and small accessories are made as separate pieces and sewn on.
Stuff the head, body, trunk, legs, and arms firmly but not hard. The trunk should be stuffed lightly toward the tip and more firmly near the face so it keeps its gentle downward curve. The ears are not stuffed; they are shaped with layered rounds and sewn flat to the sides of the head.
Elephant Head
Use light gray yarn and the 3.0 mm hook. Work in continuous rounds. Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of every round.

Insert safety eyes between Rnds 17 and 18, about 10 stitches apart. The eyes sit high and slightly angled, close to the trunk base. Add a tiny white yarn highlight beside each eye after assembly if desired.
Begin stuffing the head. Shape it into a rounded oval with a full forehead. Do not close the head yet, because the trunk will be sewn to the front opening area before final shaping.
Long Curved Trunk
The trunk is a long tapered tube with a small open oval at the tip. Use light gray yarn. Work tightly so the tube holds its shape.

Trunk Tip Rim
Join light gray yarn to the front loop ridge from Rnd 3 at the small tip. Ch 1, work 9 sl st around the tip edge, join, and FO. This creates the darker-looking opening edge shown in the image.
Attach Trunk to Head
Pin the wide end of the trunk to the center front of the head between Rnds 17 and 25. The upper edge should begin just below the eyes. Sew around the trunk opening twice with small stitches. Pull the lower part slightly downward while sewing so the trunk sits long and natural.

Green Cardigan Texture Details
To imitate the vertical ridges in the image, add surface slip stitches on the cardigan. Use the same green yarn and a 2.5 mm hook. Work vertical lines from shoulder to hem on each front panel, spacing each line 3 stitches apart.
- Work 4 vertical surface slip-stitch lines on the left front panel.
- Work 4 vertical surface slip-stitch lines on the right front panel.
- Work 5 short vertical lines on each sleeve.
- Keep the surface stitches loose so the cardigan does not pucker.
Brown Pants Texture Details
The overalls in the image look nubby and dense. After sewing them to the elephant, add short horizontal and vertical duplicate stitches using the same brown yarn. Place them randomly on the pants legs, especially around the thighs and lower front.
- Add 10 short stitches on the left leg.
- Add 10 short stitches on the right leg.
- Add 6 stitches across the bib front.
- Do not overfill the fabric; the small patches and mushrooms should remain visible.
Facial Details
The face is simple and sweet. The trunk is the main feature, so keep the mouth very subtle. With black embroidery thread, add a tiny curved mouth line under the trunk base only if desired. Do not make it too dark.
- Add a small white highlight beside each eye.
- Add two very light gray eyebrow stitches above the eyes.
- Add soft pink or pale blush stitches under the eyes if desired.
- Shape the trunk with your fingers so it hangs down the center and curves slightly outward at the tip.
Assembly Order
- Finish and stuff the head, trunk, ears, body, arms, and legs.
- Sew the trunk securely to the head before fully closing the head.
- Sew the ears wide on the sides of the head, slightly behind the eye line.
- Sew the head to the body with the face leaning forward.
- Sew legs to the lower body and arms to the upper body.
- Dress the elephant in the brown overalls and sew them lightly in place.
- Add the cream ruffled collar around the neck seam.
- Place the green cardigan over the body and attach sleeves around the arms.
- Add buttons, cardigan ribbing, and surface stitch texture.
- Attach sandals, toe pads, and small leaf details.
- Sew on the fox bag and position the strap diagonally across the chest.
- Add head decorations, party hat, mushrooms, deer patch, and optional accessories.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Check the angle of the head before making the final stitches permanent. The elephant should have a gentle handmade expression, with the trunk centered and the ears spreading outward like soft bowls. Sew through the neck several times so the head does not wobble.
Use small, neat stitches for every appliqué. The mushroom caps, fox bag, acorn, leaves, and deer patch should look decorative but not oversized. Keep the fox bag centered low on the cardigan and pants, just like the image.
After all pieces are attached, gently massage the stuffing into shape. Flatten the bottoms of the sandals slightly so the feet look rounded and steady. Adjust the cardigan front so the buttons sit in a vertical line.
Care Notes
- Spot clean with cool water and mild soap.
- Do not machine wash if you used safety eyes, buttons, or sewn appliqués.
- Press out excess water with a towel instead of twisting.
- Air dry flat in a shaded place.
- Reshape the ears, trunk, cardigan, and sandals while damp.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- The trunk is long, tapered, and lightly curved.
- The ears are large, open, and sewn wide on the head.
- The brown overalls cover the lower body and include small woodland appliqués.
- The green cardigan has ribbed cuffs, buttons, and an open front.
- The fox bag hangs diagonally across the body.
- The orange sandals show gray toe pads at the front.
- The party hat, acorn, leaves, mushrooms, and small accessories are securely attached.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Store the elephant in a dry place away from strong sunlight. Long sun exposure may fade the green cardigan, rust fox bag, and red mushroom caps. If displaying the doll, place it on a clean shelf where the ears and trunk are not compressed.
For dust removal, use a soft clean brush and move gently in the direction of the stitches. Avoid pulling on the fox strap, buttons, leaves, and tiny mushroom appliqués. These details are small and should be handled with care.
If the doll needs deeper cleaning, dampen a cloth with cool water and dab the surface. Clean the gray elephant body first, then the colored clothing. Let every part dry completely before storing to protect the stuffing and stitch shape.
