This cheerful crochet giraffe amigurumi wears a yellow-and-white striped shirt under a blue denim-style floral dress, with brown hooves, spotted neck and head, tall ossicones, wide ears, round white eyes, and a tiny bee sitting near one horn. The set also includes a green sun hat with a brown band and flower, two strawberries, a gingham picnic blanket, and a tan shoulder watering can bag decorated with a daisy.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This pattern is written in US crochet terms and is designed for a firm, tidy amigurumi finish. The giraffe is worked mostly in continuous spiral rounds, while the dress, straps, flowers, hat brim, and flat picnic blanket use rows or joined rounds where needed.
The finished doll has a long slim giraffe body, a rounded head, narrow neck, straight dangling legs, small arms, brown hooves, and a slightly handmade textured look. The dress sits high on the chest like denim overalls, then flares into a simple skirt with embroidered flowers.
- Skill level: Advanced beginner to intermediate
- Finished giraffe height: About 14 inches from shoes to horn tips when using DK/light worsted yarn
- Main technique: Amigurumi worked in tight single crochet
- Construction: Separate head, body, limbs, dress, accessories, and sewn-on details

Gauge and Tension
For the giraffe, use a tight amigurumi tension so stuffing does not show through. A good gauge is about 7 sc and 7 rounds per inch with a 2.25 mm hook and DK cotton yarn.
If your stitches are loose, go down one hook size. If the fabric feels stiff but still workable, that is ideal for this doll. The head, neck, legs, and accessories need structure so the final giraffe keeps the same upright look as the image.

Smile and Face Details
Use black embroidery thread for the smile. Place the smile low on the face, starting near R19 on one side and curving gently down to R22 before rising back near R19 on the other side.
- Make the smile about 1.5 inches wide.
- Use 3 or 4 long backstitches.
- Keep the curve soft and friendly.
- Do not pull too tightly or the face will pucker.
Ossicones
The ossicones are long yellow stalks with rounded brown tips. They stand upright from the top of the head and lean slightly outward.

- R18-R20: sc in each st around. (24)

Stuff the body firmly at the bottom and moderately near the top. The top should stay narrow enough to fit under the neck.
- R22: sc in each st around. (18)
FO with a long tail. Sew the neck to the body opening, matching the 18 stitches of the neck base to the body top. Reinforce the join twice because the head is large.

Gingham Picnic Blanket
The blanket is a small square accessory with brown and white check pattern and a green border. You can crochet it as a grid of small squares or use color changes in rows. This version uses joined mini squares for a clear gingham look.
Mini Squares
Make 16 mini squares: 8 white and 8 brown.
- Ch 5.
- R1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. (4)
- R2-R4: ch 1, turn, sc across. (4)

Join the Blanket
Arrange the squares in a 4 by 4 checkerboard pattern. Alternate white and brown in each row. Whipstitch the squares together through the back loops to keep the front tidy.
Green Border
- Join green in any corner.
- R1: ch 1, sc evenly around the blanket, placing 3 sc in each corner.
- R2: ch 1, sc around again, placing 3 sc in each corner.
- R3: sl st around for a neat edge.
FO and weave in ends. Block lightly with your fingers so the square lies flat.
Optional Neck Support
Because the giraffe has a large head and long neck, a little extra support helps the doll stand or sit nicely. This is especially useful if children will handle the finished toy often.
- Roll a small tube of firm stuffing and place it inside the neck.
- Do not use wire for toys intended for young children.
- Sew the neck to the body and head with two full rounds of stitches.
- After sewing, gently press the neck straight while shaping the body.
Joining the Head, Neck, and Body
Pin the neck to the body first. The neck should sit centered and upright. Sew around the join once using the front loops, then sew around again using small hidden stitches.
Next, pin the head on top of the neck. The face should point forward, with the smile centered above the bib. Sew securely around the base of the head. Add a little extra stuffing into the neck before closing the last gap.
Attaching Limbs
Lay the giraffe flat before sewing limbs. The legs should hang straight down from the body, with the shoes facing forward. The arms should angle slightly outward and downward, with the brown hooves resting near the sides of the skirt.
- Sew legs between body R3 and R6.
- Sew arms between body R17 and R20.
- Make sure both arms are the same height.
- Check that the dress still slides smoothly over the body.
Fitting the Dress
Put the striped shirt on first. Then slide the skirt over the body. The skirt top should sit just below the shirt stripes and partly under the bib. Sew the skirt around the waist with small stitches.
Place the bib over the front center. The top of the bib should reach the lower chest. Sew the bottom and side edges. Add the straps last so they lie cleanly over the shoulders.
Accessory Placement
- The watering can bag hangs across the front from shoulder to opposite hip.
- The tiny bee is sewn near the giraffe’s upper left horn.
- The green sun hat is a separate display accessory.
- The strawberries and blanket are separate picnic pieces.
- The shoe flowers sit on the outer sides of the sandals.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Check the face before fastening all threads. The eyes should sit high and close together, the smile should be soft and low, and the ears should extend wide from the sides of the head. Add or adjust brown spots before the final weaving.
- Sew the ossicones firmly to the top of the head.
- Sew the ears slightly below the ossicones.
- Sew spots flat with matching brown yarn.
- Add the bee after all head details are finished.
- Secure every accessory with several small stitches if the doll will be played with.
Care Notes
Use cotton or cotton-blend yarn for a crisp, photo-like texture. If using safety eyes, this toy is not recommended for children under three. For younger children, embroider the pupils with black yarn instead.
- Spot clean whenever possible.
- Do not wring the doll.
- Let the giraffe air dry flat.
- Reshape ears, horns, skirt, and hat while damp.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
To preserve the shape, keep the giraffe away from heavy moisture and direct sunlight for long periods. Cotton yarn may fade if displayed in a bright window every day.
For dust, use a soft dry brush and gently brush around the eyes, dress pocket, flowers, and bag. Avoid pulling at embroidered details.
For small stains, dab with a damp cloth and a tiny amount of mild soap. Blot again with clean water, then press gently with a dry towel. Let the piece dry naturally.
Store the accessories together in a small fabric bag when not on display. This prevents the strawberries, blanket, bee, and hat from being misplaced or flattened.
