This cheerful blue rooster amigurumi is designed with a round blue head, yellow beak, red comb and wattles, long blue wings, yellow legs, green sandals, and cream-and-green striped overalls. The finished set also includes a crossbody flower bag, a striped pom-pom beanie, a tiny red mushroom, and a small watering can for a sweet garden-table display.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This pattern is written in US crochet terms and is worked mostly in continuous rounds. The rooster has a tall, playful proportion: a large round head, slim neck, soft oval body, long dangling arms, long skinny legs, wide three-toed feet, and oversized accessory details.
The striped overalls are crocheted directly around the body for a fitted look. The short sleeves, shorts legs, and bib are added separately so the outfit looks layered, just like the handmade toy in the image.
The accessories are small but important. The flower on the head, the leafy crossbody bag, the matching striped hat, the mushroom, and the watering can create the garden theme and should not be skipped if you want the finished rooster to match the photo closely.
Finished Size
- Main rooster: about 13 to 15 inches tall when made with worsted weight yarn and a 2.75 mm hook.
- Beanie: about 2.75 inches wide, sized to sit beside the rooster or fit loosely on the head.
- Mushroom: about 1.5 inches tall.
- Watering can: about 1.75 inches tall including handle and spout.
Materials
- Worsted weight cotton or cotton-blend yarn in sky blue, yellow, red, cream, medium green, mint green, white, blush pink, brown, and small amounts of orange.
- 2.75 mm crochet hook for the rooster and outfit.
- 2.25 mm crochet hook for flowers, bag details, mushroom dots, and watering can details.
- Fiberfill stuffing.
- Two oval white felt pieces or crocheted white eye ovals.
- Black embroidery thread for pupils, lashes, and tiny nostril dots.
- Yarn needle, stitch markers, pins, and scissors.
- Optional thin floral wire for the watering can spout if the item is for display only.

Gauge and Stuffing Notes
Gauge is not strict, but your stitches should be tight enough that stuffing does not show. A firm fabric is important because the rooster has a tall neck, large head, and long legs. If your stitches are loose, go down a hook size.
Stuff the head firmly and evenly. Stuff the body medium-firm so the overalls can fit smoothly around it. The arms and lower legs should be lightly stuffed, while the feet need firmer stuffing to help the rooster sit on a table edge.
Color Layout
- Head, neck, arms, and hands: sky blue.
- Beak, lower face, legs, and feet: yellow.
- Comb and wattles: red.
- Overalls: alternating cream and medium green stripes with mint green trim.
- Sandals and bag: mint green with small flower details.
- Head flower: white petals, yellow center, green leaf.
- Beanie: cream and green stripes with green pom-pom.
- Mushroom: red cap, white spots, white stem.
- Watering can: blush pink body with green rim and handle.

Sew the two wattles side by side under the yellow beak. They should sit at the base of the head and rest against the top of the blue neck.
Neck
The neck is long and narrow, giving the rooster its tall garden character. It is blue and should be stuffed firmly enough to hold the large head upright.
- With sky blue yarn, 8 sc in MR. 8 sts.
- Rnd 2: inc around. 16 sts.
- Rnds 3-16: sc around. 16 sts.
- Stuff firmly as you work.

Sew the lower opening of the head to the top of the neck. Make several passes around the join so the head does not wobble. The neck should sit centered under the head, slightly behind the lower beak.
Body
The body is blue underneath, but most of it is covered by the striped overalls. Use blue yarn for the base body so the neck and arms blend naturally.

Care Notes
- Spot clean with cool water and mild soap.
- Do not machine wash if you used felt eyes, glue, wire, or delicate flower decorations.
- Let the toy air dry fully before storing.
- Keep the small mushroom and watering can away from children under three years old if they are made as separate pieces.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- The head is round, blue, and firmly attached to the long blue neck.
- The yellow beak pad is centered below the large white eyes.
- The red comb has three rounded lobes, with the tallest lobe in the center.
- The overalls have clear green and cream stripes, a mint bib, shoulder straps, and shorts legs.
- The arms are long and blue, with soft finger grooves stitched into the hands.
- The legs are yellow, narrow, and finished with wide three-toed feet and mint sandals.
- The bag crosses the body and has a white flower on the flap.
- The beanie, mushroom, and watering can are finished as matching display accessories.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
To preserve the shape, avoid soaking the rooster for a long time. Gently dab dirty areas with a damp cloth and reshape the head, beak, legs, and feet while the yarn is still slightly damp.
Store the rooster upright or seated, not pressed flat under heavy items. Keep the comb, flower, bag strap, and watering can away from sharp objects that may snag the stitches.
If the toy will be displayed near sunlight, rotate it occasionally to reduce uneven fading. Cotton yarn can soften beautifully over time, but strong direct sun may lighten the red comb, green stripes, and yellow feet.
Before gifting, check all sewn pieces carefully. Tug gently on the eyes, comb, wattles, sandals, flowers, bag strap, mushroom cap, and watering can handle. Add extra stitches anywhere that feels loose.
