This Bunny Mushroom Fairy Garden Diorama is a detailed crochet scene with a red-and-white mushroom cottage, a tree-stump base, leafy trees, white bunnies, a tiny ladder, vegetable beds, flowers, a pond with ducklings, stone borders, fences, a watering can, a ladybug, and miniature garden accents. The finished piece is designed as a soft display diorama with many cute amigurumi details arranged on a rounded rectangular grass base.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Finished Size
Using worsted weight yarn and a 3.25 mm to 3.5 mm hook, the finished diorama measures about 15 in wide, 11 in deep, and 10 in tall. The mushroom cottage is about 7.5 in tall from stump base to mushroom cap top. The tall trees are about 8 to 9 in tall. Small pieces may vary depending on stuffing firmness and yarn tension.
Skill Level
This pattern is best for confident beginners to intermediate crocheters. Most pieces use simple amigurumi stitches, but the project contains many small parts. Work slowly, use stitch markers, and sew each detail firmly so the finished garden holds its shape.
Materials
- Worsted weight yarn in grass green, light green, dark green, brown, beige, cream, white, red, gray, light blue, yellow, orange, purple, pink, black, and small amounts of floral colors

- 3.5 mm crochet hook for base and large flat pieces
- Polyester fiberfill
- 6 mm black safety eyes for the larger bunnies
- 4 mm black safety eyes or black embroidery thread for tiny animals
- Pink embroidery thread or yarn for cheeks and inner ears
- Yarn needle
- Stitch markers
- Scissors
- Cardboard, plastic canvas, or foam board insert for the rectangular base
- Optional: hot glue for display-only reinforcement, though sewing is recommended for a softer handmade finish

Gauge and Crochet Notes
For the amigurumi pieces, tight stitches are important. A good gauge is about 6 sc and 6 rounds per 1 in with a 3.25 mm hook. If your stuffing shows through the stitches, go down a hook size. The garden base can be slightly looser, but it should still feel firm and stable.
Unless stated otherwise, crochet in continuous rounds and place a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round. Stuff all rounded pieces gradually. For small decorative pieces, use only a light amount of stuffing so they keep a neat miniature shape.
Main Rounded Rectangular Grass Base
The base is a rounded rectangle with a raised green edge, matching the soft platform in the image. It supports the mushroom house, trees, pond, vegetable beds, fence, stones, and small figures.
Base Top
Use grass green and a 3.5 mm hook.
- Ch 36.

- Round 14: BLO sc around. 120 sts.
- Rounds 15 to 17: Sc around. 120 sts.
- Round 18: Sl st around loosely to make a neat lower edge. FO, leaving a long tail.
Trace the base shape onto cardboard or plastic canvas and cut one insert slightly smaller than the crocheted base. Insert the support before closing the underside. This helps the mushroom cottage and trees stand upright.
Base Underside
Repeat Rounds 1 to 13 of the base top in grass green. Place the insert between the top and underside. Sew the underside to the last round of the side wall with matching yarn. Add a small amount of stuffing around the corners before fully closing so the base looks soft and rounded.

Placement Guide
Before sewing everything permanently, place all pieces on the base and check the scene from the front. The mushroom cottage should be the tallest central piece, with the two trees framing it. The pond should sit on the front-right side, and the vegetable bed should sit on the front-left side.
- Back-left area: Left tree, small mushroom, and part of the fence.
- Back-center: Brown stump platform with cream mushroom cottage and red mushroom cap.
- Back-right area: Right tree, tomato row, pumpkins, small shrubs, flower, and tall posts.
- Center: Ladder leaning on stump, climbing bunny, yellow flower, pebbles, and green leaves.
- Front-left: Vegetable bed, stepping stone path, fence, and small bunny.
- Front-center: Stone wall with vines and ladybug.
- Front-right: Blue pond, gray stone border, reeds, flowers, and three yellow ducklings.
Detailed Assembly Steps
- Sew the brown stump platform to the back-center-left area of the green base. Use a long yarn tail and stitch around the bottom twice for stability.
- Sew the cream mushroom stem to the top of the stump. Make sure the door faces the front.
- Sew the red mushroom cap to the top of the cream stem. Add hidden stitches through the underside and top of the stem so the cap does not wobble.
- Sew the cottage door to the front of the stem and the round window to the right side.
- Sew the left and right trees to the base. Add extra stitches around the trunk base, then cover the stitches with shrubs and stones.
- Sew the ladder so the bottom rests on the ground and the top touches the green scalloped ledge.
- Sew the climbing bunny to the ladder, placing one arm and one foot on the rungs.
- Sew the small ledge bunny onto the left side of the green scallop ledge near the cottage.
- Sew the standing bunny near the watering can, facing the vegetable bed and pond.
- Sew the pond flat to the front-right area. Add gray stones around the pond edge.
- Sew the three ducklings onto the pond surface, facing slightly different directions.
- Sew the vegetable soil strip to the front-left area. Add carrots, purple vegetables, cabbages, tomatoes, and pumpkins in neat rows.
- Sew the stepping stones in a curved path from the front-left fence toward the cottage door.
- Sew the fence posts and rails along the left and front edges.
- Sew the front stone wall in place, then add green vines and the ladybug.
- Add flowers, reeds, shrubs, leaves, and tiny pebbles last to fill empty spaces and create the dense fairy garden look.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Use small, even stitches when attaching every figure. The bunnies should look gentle and cheerful, so keep the eyes low on the face and the pink cheeks soft. Embroider a tiny nose with pink yarn and a short mouth line with black thread. Add a few extra stitches behind each ear so the ears stand upright.
Check the balance of the cottage and trees. If a tree leans too far, add hidden support stitches from the lower trunk to nearby leaves or shrubs. For display pieces, a small piece of plastic canvas inside the base gives the diorama a neat, stable shape.
Care Notes
This crochet fairy garden is best used as a decorative display piece. Keep it away from pets, moisture, and direct sunlight. The small pieces are securely sewn, but they are not intended for babies or rough play because the diorama includes tiny vegetables, stones, eyes, and flower details.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- Red mushroom cap has 7 white spots and cream gills underneath.
- Cream cottage stem has a brown oval door and round side window.
- Brown stump has vertical bark ridges and a green scalloped ledge.
- Two leafy trees frame the cottage.
- Four white bunnies are placed around the scene.
- Ladder leans against the stump with one bunny attached.
- Pond has a gray stone border and three yellow ducklings.
- Vegetable bed includes carrots, purple vegetables, cabbages, tomatoes, and pumpkins.
- Fence, stone path, flowers, reeds, shrubs, small mushroom, and ladybug are attached.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Spot clean only with a slightly damp cloth and mild soap. Do not soak the diorama, because the stuffing and inner base support may lose shape. Press gently with a dry towel after cleaning and let the piece air dry completely.
Store the crochet garden in a dust-free box when not displayed. Place tissue paper around the trees, mushroom cap, and ladder to prevent bending. Avoid stacking heavy items on top of the diorama so the rounded shapes and tiny garden details stay crisp.
