This cheerful crochet duck doll is made with a tall black head, bright yellow bill and feet, long seated legs, striped garden hoodie, blue overalls, red beret, flower accent, tiny carrot patch, brown crossbody bag, and a matching picnic set with a striped blanket, camera, and small book. The finished doll is designed to sit naturally on a shelf, table, or garden display.

Gauge and Tension
Gauge is not extremely strict for this doll, but tight amigurumi tension is important. With a 3.0 mm hook and worsted yarn, 6 sc by 6 rounds should measure about 1 inch square. Your stitches should be firm enough that stuffing does not show through the black head, yellow bill, or blue overalls.
If your fabric has gaps, go down one hook size. If the head becomes too stiff to shape, go up slightly but keep all pieces made with the same hook family so the proportions remain balanced. The head is intentionally large, the legs are long and slim, and the feet are oversized.
Finished Shape Notes
- The head is tall and oval, slightly wider at the cheek area and narrower at the top.
- The bill is wide, flattened, and layered with an upper bill and lower open-mouth section.
- The body is short compared with the head, because the overalls and hoodie add visual bulk.
- The legs are long yellow tubes attached under the overalls so the doll sits over the table edge.
- The feet are broad, flat, and sandal-like with tan soles and red button details.
- The hoodie has cream and green horizontal stripes with a soft folded hood behind the neck.
- The overalls are blue with bib front, straps, buttons, side shorts, and a tiny orange carrot patch.
Head in Black
Work the head firmly in continuous rounds. Stuff gradually as you crochet. The head should look like a tall oval duck head, with enough height for the long white eyes and enough lower space for the wide yellow bill.

Finish stuffing the head so it is rounded but not hard. Close the final opening with a yarn needle. Shape the lower face by gently pressing the front where the bill will sit. The widest part of the head should be around rounds 16 to 24.
Black Neck
The neck is slim and hidden partly by the hoodie collar. It needs to be strong because the large head sits above a small body. Crochet tightly and stuff very firmly.
- R1: With black yarn, make 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
- R2: Inc in each st around. 12 sts.
- R3-R9: Sc around for 7 rounds. 12 sts.
- R10: Sc around, then FO with a long tail for sewing.
Sew the neck to the lower center of the head between rounds 28 and 34. Keep the head slightly tilted forward. This gives the seated garden doll the same friendly, curious look seen in the photo.
Upper Bill in Yellow
The upper bill is the most important face piece. It should be wide, long, flat, and slightly curved downward at the tip. Do not overstuff. Use only a thin layer of fiberfill so the bill keeps a soft flattened shape.
- R1: With yellow yarn, ch 13. Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc 11, 3 sc in last ch. Work along other side of chain, sc 10, inc in last ch. 26 sts.
- R2: Inc, sc 10, inc 3 times, sc 10, inc 2 times. 32 sts.
- R3: Sc 1, inc, sc 10, sc 1, inc, sc 1, inc, sc 1, inc, sc 10, sc 1, inc, sc 1, inc. 38 sts.

- R8: Sc around. 36 sts.
- R9: Sc 7, dec, sc 18, dec, sc 7. 34 sts.
- R10: Sc around. 34 sts.
Flatten the bill horizontally. Add a very thin layer of stuffing, mostly near the base and almost none at the tip. FO with a long tail. Pin the bill to the front of the head across rounds 18 to 26. The tip should project forward, and the base should cover most of the lower face.
Lower Bill and Open Mouth
The lower bill forms the yellow lower lip under the black mouth opening. It is shorter than the top bill and curves gently outward. A black oval mouth insert is placed between the two bill pieces.
- R1: With yellow yarn, ch 11. Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc 9, 3 sc in last ch. Work along other side, sc 8, inc. 22 sts.
- R2: Inc, sc 8, inc 3 times, sc 8, inc 2 times. 28 sts.
- R3: Sc around. 28 sts.
- R4: Sc 6, dec, sc 12, dec, sc 6. 26 sts.
- R5: Sc around. 26 sts.
- R6: Sc 5, dec, sc 12, dec, sc 5. 24 sts.
Flatten the lower bill and stuff lightly. Sew it below the upper bill, leaving a black curved opening visible in the center. For the mouth insert, crochet with black yarn: ch 8, sc 6, 3 sc in last ch, sc 5 on the other side, inc, sl st to finish. Sew inside the gap.
Yellow Cheek Pads
The round cheek pads sit at both sides of the bill and soften the face. They should look like yellow rounded side puffs placed slightly behind the upper bill base.
- R1: With yellow yarn, make 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
- R2: Inc around. 12 sts.
- R3: Sc 1, inc, repeat around. 18 sts.
- R4-R5: Sc around. 18 sts.
- R6: Sc 1, dec, repeat around. 12 sts.
Make two. Stuff lightly. Flatten one side with your fingers and sew each cheek pad to the side of the face between rounds 19 and 25 of the head. The front edge should touch the bill base.
White Eyes and Black Pupils
The eyes are tall white ovals placed vertically on the upper front of the head. They nearly touch the top of the bill and rise high toward the forehead. The black pupils sit low and centered, giving the character a cheerful garden explorer expression.
White Eye Oval, Make Two
- R1: With white yarn, ch 9. Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc 7, 3 sc in last ch. Work along other side, sc 6, inc. 18 sts.
- R2: Inc, sc 6, inc 3 times, sc 6, inc 2 times. 24 sts.
- R3: Sc 1, inc, sc 6, repeat sc 1, inc three times, sc 6, repeat sc 1, inc two times. 30 sts.
- R4: Sc around. 30 sts. FO, leaving a long sewing tail.

Black Pupil, Make Two
- R1: With black yarn and 2.5 mm hook, make 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
- R2: Inc around. 12 sts.
- R3: Sc around. 12 sts. FO.
Sew or glue the pupils onto the lower center of each white oval. Pin both eyes vertically on the head from rounds 10 to 22. Keep a narrow black space between them. Sew neatly around the edges with white yarn.
Head Feathers
The small black head feathers peek from behind the red beret. They are simple curved tubes with rounded tips. Make two short feathers and one slightly taller feather.
- R1: With black yarn and 2.5 mm hook, make 5 sc in MR. 5 sts.
- R2-R5: Sc around. 5 sts.
- R6: Sc 2, sl st 3. FO with a tail.
Make three feathers. For the tallest feather, add two extra rounds before fastening off. Do not stuff. Sew them to the top back of the head around round 4, leaning them slightly to the left so they show above the beret.
Body Base
The body is compact because the outfit gives most of the shape. Start with black yarn for the hidden torso, then later cover it with the hoodie and overalls. Stuff firmly so the seated doll remains stable.
- R1: With black yarn, make 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
- R2: Inc around. 12 sts.
- R3: Sc 1, inc, repeat around. 18 sts.
- R4: Sc 2, inc, repeat around. 24 sts.
- R5: Sc 3, inc, repeat around. 30 sts.
- R6: Sc 4, inc, repeat around. 36 sts.
- R7-R12: Sc around for 6 rounds. 36 sts.

- R18-R19: Sc around. 24 sts.
- R20: Sc 2, dec, repeat around. 18 sts.
- R21: Sc around. 18 sts. FO.
Sew the neck to the top center of the body. Check the sitting angle before closing the seam. The head should sit high above the hoodie, while the small torso should remain mostly covered by the striped sweater and blue overalls.
Yellow Legs, Make Two
The legs are long, narrow, and relaxed. They should hang over the table edge. Stuff them lightly but evenly so they bend naturally at the hip and stay slim.
- R1: With yellow yarn, make 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
- R2: Sc 1, inc, repeat around. 9 sts.
- R3: Sc 2, inc, repeat around. 12 sts.
- R4-R28: Sc around for 25 rounds. 12 sts.
- R29: Sc 5, dec, sc 5. 11 sts.
- R30-R32: Sc around for 3 rounds. 11 sts.
- R33: Flatten the top and sc through both layers with 5 sc. FO with a long tail.
Make two legs. Sew them to the lower front of the body, under the blue shorts area, about 4 stitches apart. Angle them downward so the knees are not visible and the feet sit forward.
Large Yellow Feet with Tan Soles
The feet are broad and flat with a duck-like front. The tan sole is visible around the edge, and the yellow upper wraps over the top. Red buttons decorate the outer top side of each foot.
Tan Sole, Make Two
- R1: With tan yarn, ch 12. Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc 10, 3 sc in last ch. Work along other side, sc 9, inc. 24 sts.

Place the yellow upper over the tan sole. Sew around the sides, leaving the back open enough to insert the leg end. Add a little stuffing to the toe area only. Sew each leg securely into the back of a foot.
Toe Ridge
- With yellow yarn, ch 13.
- Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc 12. FO.
- Sew the ridge across the top front of each foot in a shallow curve.
Sew one small red button to the outer top of each foot near the front side. Use strong thread or matching red yarn. The button should sit flat and decorative, like the red circular accents shown in the image.
Black Arms, Make Two
The arms are thin black tubes that come out from under the striped sleeves. They end in simple mitten-style hands with small finger bumps. Stuff the upper arms lightly and leave the hand area soft.
- R1: With black yarn, make 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
- R2: Sc 1, inc, repeat around. 9 sts.
- R3-R16: Sc around for 14 rounds. 9 sts.
- R17: Sc 3, bobble with 4 dc in next st, sc 5. 9 sts.
- R18: Sc 1, bobble with 4 dc, sc 2, bobble with 4 dc, sc 4. 9 sts.
- R19: Sc around. 9 sts.
- R20: Flatten and sc through both layers with 4 sc. FO.
The bobbles create small finger shapes. Make two arms. Sew them to the body sides after the hoodie sleeves are in place, allowing the black hands to show below the striped cuffs.
Striped Hoodie Body
The hoodie is worked as a fitted sweater around the torso. It uses cream and green horizontal stripes. The lower sweater is mostly hidden by the blue overalls, but the sleeves and hood remain clearly visible.
Stripe sequence: work 2 rounds cream, 2 rounds green, and repeat. Carry yarn neatly inside when possible, or cut and weave ends after finishing. The sample look has bold green stripes separated by cream rows.
- R1: With cream yarn, ch 37. Join with sl st to form a ring, making sure it is not twisted. Sc around. 36 sts.
- R2: Sc around in cream. 36 sts.
- R3-R4: Change to green, sc around for 2 rounds. 36 sts.
- R5-R6: Change to cream, sc around for 2 rounds. 36 sts.

- R15: Green, sc 3, dec, repeat around. 24 sts.
- R16: Green, sc around. 24 sts. FO.
Slide the striped hoodie body over the black torso before attaching the head permanently if preferred. If the head is already attached, sew the back seam invisibly after wrapping the piece around the body. The top opening should sit just below the neck.
Hood
The hood is a soft folded piece behind the head. It is white and green striped, with a cream border around the opening. It should rest around the back of the neck and frame the shoulders.
- R1: With cream yarn, ch 25. Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc 24. Ch 1, turn.
- R2: Sc across. 24 sts.
- R3-R4: Change to green, sc across for 2 rows. 24 sts.

- R7-R8: Green, sc across for 2 rows. 24 sts.
- R9-R12: Cream, sc across for 4 rows. 24 sts.
- R13: Fold the rectangle in half. Sl st or sew the top back seam for 12 stitches.
- R14: Join cream yarn around the face opening and sc evenly around. FO.
Place the hood behind the head with the seam at the top back. Sew the lower edge to the sweater neckline. Let the front corners fold outward slightly to match the soft hood seen in the photo.
Striped Sleeves, Make Two
The sleeves are puffy and striped, with green cuffs near the black hands. They should look slightly oversized compared with the thin arms.
- R1: With cream yarn, ch 16. Join to form a ring. Sc around. 16 sts.

Slide each sleeve over a black arm. Sew the upper sleeve edge to the shoulder area of the hoodie. The black hand should extend from the cuff by about 1 inch.
Blue Overall Shorts
The overalls are denim blue and sit over the striped hoodie. They include short pant legs, a square bib, two shoulder straps, tan buttons, and a tiny carrot patch on the front.
Shorts Base
- R1: With denim blue yarn, ch 37. Join to form a ring. Sc around. 36 sts.

- R2-R11: Sc across for 10 rows. 12 sts.
- R12: Sc around all four edges, placing 2 sc in each corner. FO with long tail.
Sew the bib to the front center of the shorts, beginning at the waistband and rising over the belly. Keep the edges straight. The bib should cover the lower front of the striped hoodie but leave the hood and sleeves visible.
Shoulder Straps, Make Two
- With denim blue yarn, ch 24.
- Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc 23.
- Ch 1, turn, sc 23 again.
- FO with a long tail.
Sew one end of each strap to the back waistband. Bring the straps over the shoulders and attach them to the top corners of the bib. Sew a tan button over each front strap end. Cross the straps slightly at the back if needed for a secure fit.
Tiny Carrot Patch
The carrot patch is placed on the upper right area of the blue bib. It is small but important because it gives the doll a garden theme.
Orange Carrot
- With orange yarn and 2.5 mm hook, ch 5.
- Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc, hdc, hdc, 3 hdc in last ch.
- Work along other side: hdc, sc, sl st. FO.

Beret Top Nub
- With red yarn, ch 3.
- Work 5 hdc in the first chain.
- Sl st to close and FO.
Sew the nub to the top center of the beret. Place the beret on the upper right side of the head, leaving the black feathers visible. Sew lightly around the bottom edge so the hat keeps its tilted shape.
Yellow Flower Accent
The flower sits beside the beret near the side of the head. It has round yellow petals and a small center. This detail softens the bold red hat and matches the garden theme.
- R1: With flower yellow yarn, make 5 sc in MR. Sl st to close.
- R2: Ch 2, 3 hdc in same st, ch 2, sl st in same st.
- Repeat the petal sequence in each of the remaining 4 sts.

Sew the flower to the side of the beret and head, just above the yellow cheek pad. Add one small brown or darker yellow stitch in the center if desired.
Brown Crossbody Bag
The bag hangs across the front of the overalls on a long brown strap. It sits on the lower right side of the body and has a flap decorated with a small flower.

Sew the flap to the top back edge of the bag body and fold it over the front. Sew only along the top edge so the flap looks layered. Add a tiny flower to the flap using five small yellow lazy stitches or five tiny crocheted petals.
Bag Strap
- With brown yarn, ch 65.
- Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sl st across all chains.
- FO, leaving tails for sewing.
Sew one end of the strap to each side of the bag. Place the strap across the chest from one shoulder to the opposite hip. Tack it with two hidden stitches near the shoulder so it stays in place.
Picnic Blanket
The small blanket beside the doll is worked in green and white stripes. It is dome-folded in the photo, so this pattern creates a soft half-round blanket that can sit next to the camera.
- R1: With green yarn, ch 21. Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc 20. Ch 1, turn.
- R2: Sc across. 20 sts.
- R3-R4: Change to white, sc across for 2 rows. 20 sts.

- R15: Sc evenly around the entire rectangle with green yarn. FO.
To make the blanket appear rounded like the photo, fold it in half lengthwise and place a small roll of stuffing under the center. Tack the back corners together lightly with green yarn so it forms a soft picnic dome.
Tiny Crochet Camera
The camera is brown and gray with a round black lens and a small light blue button. It sits near the striped blanket and completes the outdoor picnic scene.
Camera Body
- R1: With brown yarn, ch 10. Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc 8, 3 sc in last ch, sc 7 on other side, inc. 20 sts.

Sew the lens to the front center of the camera body. Add a small light blue French knot or tiny crocheted circle on the top right side. For a tiny button, make 5 sc in MR with light blue yarn and sew it flat.
Small Book
The little book rests beside the camera. It has a brown cover and white page stack with a pale blue page edge. Keep it flat and lightly structured.
Pages

Place the white page piece over the brown cover so one brown edge shows like a spine. Sew along one side only. Fold slightly so the book looks gently open.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
- Sew the neck firmly to the body, then sew the head onto the neck with the face looking forward.
- Pin the upper bill first. Check that it is centered and projects outward. Sew all around the base.
- Add the lower bill beneath it, leaving the black mouth insert visible.
- Sew yellow cheek pads to both sides of the bill.
- Attach the white eyes vertically above the bill, then sew or glue the black pupils low on the eyes.
- Sew the hoodie body around the torso and attach the hood behind the neck.
- Add sleeves over the arms, then sew the arms to the sides of the upper body.
- Pull the blue overall shorts onto the body, sew the bib to the front, and attach the straps with tan buttons.
- Sew the carrot patch onto the bib.
- Attach legs under the shorts and sew the feet to the leg ends.
- Place the beret at an angle, sew on the flower accent, and secure the black head feathers behind it.
- Add the brown crossbody bag and arrange the picnic blanket, camera, and book beside the doll.
Use pins before sewing each major piece. This is especially helpful for the eyes, bill, and beret because small placement changes can alter the expression. The doll should look bright, playful, and ready for a garden picnic.

Store the doll upright or seated so the long legs and bill do not become bent. If the bill flattens too much, gently reshape it by hand and let it rest on a flat surface overnight. Avoid heavy objects on top of the face or feet.
Keep the doll away from direct sunlight for long periods, because bright yellow, green, blue, and red yarn can fade. For display, place the doll on a clean shelf, table, or basket where the accessories can stay together.
If dust collects on the surface, use a soft dry brush and move gently in the direction of the stitches. Do not pull on the small carrot, flower, strap, camera lens, or buttons. These details are decorative and should be handled carefully.
For long-term storage, wrap the doll loosely in tissue paper or a cotton cloth. Keep it in a dry box with the picnic accessories beside it. Avoid plastic bags in humid spaces, because trapped moisture can affect yarn freshness.
