Gauge and Notes

Use a hook small enough to create a tight fabric with no stuffing showing. The doll in the photo has dense, even amigurumi stitches, so do not use a loose tension. Your stitches should look compact and rounded, especially on the eyes, head, body, and sandals.

Work most parts in continuous rounds unless the instructions say otherwise. Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round. Stuff gradually and firmly, but do not overstuff the long neck, legs, and small accessories. The doll should sit with the long legs hanging down.

The pattern is written to match the photo as closely as possible: a large pale yellow head, bulging white eyes, open orange beak, red top feathers, narrow neck, round belly, striped sweater, long orange legs, yellow sandals with toe bumps, brown backpack, striped sun hat, and small watering can.

Main Head

Use pale yellow yarn. The head is large, rounded, and slightly oval from front to back. It should be wider at the eye area and gently tapered near the neck.

Stuff the head firmly, shaping it into a broad oval. The front should have room for the large eyes and beak. Leave the final opening unclosed because the neck will be sewn into this area. FO with a long tail.

Large White Eyes

Make 2 in white. These eyes are very large and round, sitting on the front sides of the head. They should look like raised domes.

Insert one black safety eye or sew one glossy black bead on each white eye. Place the pupils slightly off-center toward the outside lower area, matching the silly wide-eyed expression in the photo. Stuff each eye firmly. FO with a long tail for sewing.

Peach Eye Outline

Use light peach or pale tan yarn. Join yarn to the back edge of each white eye and work one round of surface slip stitches around the outer edge. This creates the soft peach rim visible between the eye and head. FO and hide the ends.

Open Orange Beak

The beak is orange and rounded, with a raised upper lip and lower lip. The center is open and darker because the mouth is hollow.

Upper Beak

  1. Rnd 1: With orange, MR, 6 sc. 6 sts.

The red comb feathers sit high on the crown and lean backward. The flower should be sewn near the front base of the comb. The red wattles hang under the beak, just above the narrow neck.

Body Placement

Sew the long neck to the top center of the striped body. The neck should feel secure and vertical, because the large head needs support. Add extra stitches around the connection if the head tilts too much.

Attach the arms at the upper body, just below the neck, so they rest along the sides of the sweater. Attach the legs at the lower front of the yellow belly. The doll is meant to sit, so the legs should hang forward instead of pointing straight down from the bottom.

Sew the sandals to the ends of the orange legs. Position the cream soles flat, with the yellow straps on top and the orange toes visible at the front. Add the small flowers to the outer side of each sandal.

Backpack Placement

Place the backpack on the back of the sweater. The top should sit just below the neck, and the lower edge should rest behind the round belly. Bring the shoulder straps over the shoulders and stitch them down neatly on the front upper sweater.

Arrange the teal stems and orange handle so they stick out from the backpack opening. The stems should curve outward like soft garden tools or playful leafy accessories. Keep them lightweight so they do not pull the doll backward.

Optional Display Support

If your doll is for display, insert a short wooden skewer or plastic support inside the neck before final sewing. The support should run from the body into the lower head. Make sure there are no sharp points. Do not add hard supports if the doll will be handled by small children.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

  1. Sew the neck securely into the head opening.
  2. Sew the neck to the top of the body.
  3. Attach both white eyes, keeping them large, round, and slightly tilted outward.
  4. Sew the open orange beak between the eyes.
  5. Add the red wattles under the beak.
  6. Sew the three red comb feathers to the crown, angled backward.
  7. Add the tiny head flower and leaf near the comb.
  8. Sew the arms to the sweater sides.
  9. Sew the long legs to the lower belly.
  10. Attach sandals, toes, and sandal flowers.
  11. Sew the backpack to the back and secure the straps over the shoulders.
  12. Place the hat and watering can beside the doll for a garden display.

For extra facial detail, add a few tiny orange stitches around the beak edge to emphasize the open mouth. You may also add a small peach stitch line where each eye meets the head to make the eyes look more raised and expressive.

Care Notes

  • Spot clean only with a damp cloth and mild soap.
  • Do not machine wash if the doll contains wire, buttons, safety eyes, cardboard, or plastic canvas.
  • Reshape the comb, legs, sandals, and backpack tools gently after cleaning.
  • Let the doll air dry completely before storing.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The eyes are oversized white domes with black pupils.
  • The orange beak is open and centered.
  • The red comb has three curved feathers leaning backward.
  • The neck is long and narrow.
  • The sweater has blue, green, and yellow-green stripes.
  • The body has a round pale yellow lower belly.
  • The orange legs are long and thin.
  • The yellow sandals have orange toes and small flowers.
  • The brown backpack has straps, a flap, flower detail, and teal garden stems.
  • The striped sun hat and watering can are included as separate accessories.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Keep the doll away from strong sunlight for long periods because bright red, orange, blue, and green yarn may fade over time. Store it upright or seated so the long comb and neck do not become bent.

If dust collects on the stitches, use a soft makeup brush or clean paintbrush to remove it. For small stains, dab gently with cool water. Avoid rubbing the eyes, beak, flowers, and backpack details because they are sewn-on decorative parts.

When storing, wrap the doll loosely in tissue paper and place the hat, backpack tools, and watering can where they will not be crushed. Do not place heavy items on top of the comb, eyes, sandals, or watering can spout.
