This cheerful crochet scene creates a tiny rainy-day frog world with a round pumpkin cottage, a tall curled green roof, a scalloped cream roof edge, an arched teal door, leaf-shaped windows, a grassy base, a blue pond, gray pond stones, a small wooden bridge, frogs, raincoats on a clothesline, mushrooms, boots, a fence, flowers, cattails, fish, and a “Rainy Pond Home” sign.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Skill Level

Confident beginner to intermediate. This pattern uses basic amigurumi stitches, simple shaping, color changes, sewing, surface details, and small decorative appliques. Work slowly, pin every piece before sewing, and keep the same tension throughout the whole scene.

Important Construction Notes

The scene is built from the bottom upward. First make the rectangular grass base. Next make the pumpkin cottage and roof, then place the cottage on the left back area of the base. After that, build the pond on the right front area and fill the remaining space with frogs, fence, clothesline, wheelbarrow, boots, mushrooms, stepping stones, and flowers.

Use tight stitches for all stuffed pieces. Stuff the pumpkin cottage firmly at the lower half and more lightly near the top so the roof sits neatly. The curled roof should have a wire inside so it bends forward like the image. Cover all wire ends with tape before inserting them into crochet pieces.

Grass Base Mat

Use grass green and a 4.00 mm hook. This base is a flat rectangle with a slightly rounded edge. Crochet firmly enough that the cottage and pond will not lean.

  2. R1: Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 60 sc.
  3. R2-R48: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. 60 sc.

  5. Border R2: Sc in each st around, placing 3 sc in the center stitch of each corner. Sl st to first sc. FO and weave in ends.

Optional base backing: Cut a piece of plastic canvas slightly smaller than the mat. Sew it underneath with long whip stitches in grass green. This keeps the full display flat when the heavier cottage and pond are attached.

Pumpkin Cottage Body

The cottage is a squat pumpkin house with vertical ridges. Work in pumpkin orange. The body begins as a flat base, grows into a rounded pumpkin, then narrows at the roof line.

Vertical Pumpkin Ridges

Use dark moss green or darker orange. The visible cottage has deep pumpkin grooves, so these stitched lines are important.

  1. Cut 8 long strands, each about 24 in.
  2. Insert the needle at the bottom center and bring it up at the top center.
  3. Wrap the yarn down the outside of the cottage and return through the bottom center.

  5. R6: Sc across, working 4 sc into each ch-4 loop. FO.

Sleeves

  • Join matching yarn to one sleeve opening.
  • Work 6 sc around the opening.
  • R2-R4: Sc around. FO.
  • Repeat for the second sleeve.
  • Use matching yarn to make a small hood: ch 7, sc across for 3 rows, fold in half, sew the top edge, and attach to the coat neckline.
  • Add two tiny yellow or cream French-knot buttons.

Use small yarn loops to hang each raincoat from the clothesline.

Rainy Pond Home Sign

The sign stands behind the pond on the right side. Use tan for the sign board and brown for the posts.

Sign Board

  1. Use tan. Ch 16.
  2. R1: Sc in second ch from hook and across. Ch 1, turn. 15 sc.
  3. R2-R5: Sc across. Ch 1, turn.
  4. Border: Sc around the board, placing 2 sc in each corner. FO.

Use brown yarn to embroider a border. Stitch the words “Rainy Pond Home” with simple backstitches. If embroidery is difficult, stitch short dark lines to suggest the words while keeping the sign placement and look.

Sign Posts

  • Ch 10 twice in brown and sl st back across each chain.
  • Sew both posts behind the sign board.
  • Sew the bottom of the posts into the grass behind the pond rocks.

Raindrops

The image includes little clear blue raindrops around the pond and clothesline. Crochet them or use clear teardrop beads.

Crocheted Raindrop

  1. Use pale blue. Ch 4.
  2. Sl st in second ch from hook, sc in next ch, 3 hdc in last ch.
  3. Work on opposite side: sc, sl st.
  4. FO with a long tail and sew around the pond and sign.

Make 6 to 8 raindrops. Keep them small and place them sparsely so the scene stays clean.

Roof and Cottage Placement

Place the pumpkin cottage on the back left side of the base. The door should face forward. Leave enough room in front of the cottage for the doorstep, red boots, wheelbarrow, and stepping stones. Sew the cottage through the bottom round into the grass base using pumpkin orange yarn.

The roof should lean slightly forward with the curled tip pointing toward the door. Use small hidden stitches around the cream scallop edge to secure it to the cottage. Do not flatten the scallops; they should look wavy and soft.

Scene Layout Guide

  • Back left: pumpkin cottage with tall green curled roof.
  • Front left: brown picket fence and small frog under red mushroom umbrella.
  • Center front: large frog, wheelbarrow, blanket, tiny book, and stepping stones.
  • Near door: red rain boots, small mushrooms, and gray doorstep.
  • Right front: turquoise pond with rocks, bridge, fish, lilies, reeds, cattails, and fishing frog.
  • Back right: clothesline with yellow and teal raincoats and the “Rainy Pond Home” sign.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

  1. Pin every piece to the grass base before sewing. Check the scene from the front and from above.
  2. Sew the cottage first, then the pond, then the rocks around the pond.
  3. Add the bridge after the rocks so it sits naturally across the water.
  4. Sew the large frog and wheelbarrow in the center area. The frog should face slightly toward the pond.
  5. Sew the fishing frog on the lily pad at the pond edge and attach the fishing line into the water.
  6. Add the fence and umbrella frog on the left side.
  7. Sew the red boots, mushrooms, flowers, stepping stones, reeds, cattails, fish, water lilies, raindrops, sign, and clothesline last.
  8. For each frog face, embroider a soft curved smile using black yarn. Add pink cheeks just below the eyes.
  9. Use small white stitches on the eyes if you want a shiny highlight.

Facial placement tip: Place the eyes high and wide. Put the smile slightly below the center of the face. Keep the cheeks round and close to the smile for the same sweet expression shown in the image.

Care Notes

  • Spot clean only with cool water and mild soap.
  • Do not machine wash because the cottage, roof wire, sign, posts, and pond decorations may bend.
  • Let the piece air dry flat on a towel.
  • Keep away from pets and very young children if you use wire, beads, or safety eyes.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The pumpkin cottage is round, orange, and has 8 visible vertical ridges.
  • The green roof is tall, curled forward, and has a cream scalloped edge.
  • The front door is dark teal with cream trim and a small knob.
  • Two leaf windows are sewn on the cottage sides.
  • The pond is turquoise, oval, and fully bordered with gray stones.
  • The bridge, fish, lilies, reeds, cattails, and fishing frog are attached to the pond area.
  • The raincoats hang on a clothesline behind the pond.
  • The sign reads “Rainy Pond Home.”
  • The red boots, mushrooms, wheelbarrow, book, blanket, fence, umbrella frog, and raindrops are all in place.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Store the finished crochet scene in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Sunlight can fade the orange cottage, green roof, and turquoise pond over time. If dust collects on the piece, use a soft makeup brush or a cool hair dryer on the lowest setting.

When moving the display, lift it from underneath the grass base with both hands. Do not lift it by the roof, clothesline, fishing rod, sign, or frogs. These small details are decorative and can loosen if pulled.

If a piece becomes flattened, gently reshape it with your fingers. For the roof curl, bend the wire slowly and carefully. Do not over-bend the wire repeatedly, because it may weaken inside the crochet fabric.

Pattern Complete

Your Frog’s Pumpkin Pond Cottage is finished when the base feels balanced, the cottage stands securely, the frogs face the scene naturally, and every tiny rainy-day detail is sewn firmly in place. The final display should look like a cozy frog home beside a sparkling pond after a gentle garden rain.
