Create a cozy attic sewing studio with a cream open-front cottage, warm brown roof, round attic windows, shelves of thread, a sewing table, black sewing machine, quilt rug, balcony garden, clothesline, dress form, fabric board, yarn cubbies, tiny mouse helper, and a sweet tabby cat in a floral sewing dress.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Finished Size
- Whole studio: about 12 in wide, 11 in tall, and 8 in deep.
- Cat doll: about 4.5 in tall when seated.
- Mouse helper: about 2.25 in tall.
- Quilt rug: about 8.5 in wide and 6.5 in deep.
- Porch balcony: about 3.5 in wide and 5.5 in tall.
Skill Level
Intermediate. The house uses simple rectangles, panels, joining, surface crochet, and many small amigurumi details. Confident beginners can make it slowly by finishing one section at a time.
Materials
- Worsted weight cotton or cotton-acrylic yarn in cream, ivory, warm beige, dusty rose, dark brown, medium brown, tan, gray, black, pink, red, green, blue, yellow, cream white, and assorted thread-spool colors.
- 2.75 mm crochet hook for amigurumi and small details.
- 3.25 mm crochet hook for house panels, roof, floor, and rug.
- Fiberfill stuffing.
- Plastic canvas, thin cardboard, or foam board for stiffening the walls, roof, floor, balcony, shelves, table, cabinet, and sewing machine base.
- Two 8 mm safety eyes for the cat and two 4 mm safety eyes or black embroidery knots for the mouse.
- Black embroidery floss for whiskers, cat stripes, sewing machine details, and small outlines.

Gauge
With the 3.25 mm hook, 20 sc rows and 18 sc stitches should measure about 4 in square. Exact gauge is less important than firm fabric. Use a smaller hook if stuffing or inserts show through the stitches.
Construction Notes
The studio is made as an open-front dollhouse. The cream floor, back wall, two side walls, and triangular attic gable are crocheted separately, stiffened, then whipstitched together. The roof is made from two long dusty-rose panels with thick dark brown edging.
The interior items are made as small flat-backed pieces so they sit neatly against the walls. Keep the stitches tight and use very little stuffing in shelves and furniture. The cat should sit at the sewing table, so the body is slightly pear-shaped and the legs are bent forward.
House Base and Floor
Main Floor Panel
Use cream yarn and the 3.25 mm hook. This panel forms the flat base under the sewing room and supports the quilt rug, table, cabinet, basket, and balcony edge.
- Ch 43.
- Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. Turn. 42 sc.
- Rows 2-32: Ch 1, sc across. Turn. 42 sc.
- Row 33: Ch 1, sc across. Do not turn.
- Border rnd: Work 32 sc evenly down the first side, 42 sc across the foundation edge, 32 sc up the second side, and 42 sc across the top edge. Sl st to first sc. 148 sc.
- Rnd 2: Ch 1, BLO sc around, placing 3 sc in each corner stitch. Sl st to first sc. FO, leaving a long tail.
Cut a piece of plastic canvas or foam board slightly smaller than the floor. Place it under the panel. Crochet or whipstitch another plain cream rectangle of 42 stitches by 32 rows to the underside if you want a clean bottom.
Back Wall Panel
The back wall is the tall cream wall behind the cat, sewing table, shelf, thread spools, button board, fabric swatches, and dress form. It should stand straight and firm.
- Ch 45 with cream yarn.
- Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. Turn. 44 sc.
- Rows 2-42: Ch 1, sc across. Turn.
- Border: Ch 1, sc evenly around, placing 3 sc in each corner. Sl st to first sc. FO.

Cut a stiff insert about 9.25 in wide and 8.5 in tall. Sew or glue the insert behind the wall. The side with neat sc rows faces into the room.
Left Wall with Balcony Opening
This wall is visible on the left, beside the little balcony garden and clothesline. It supports the roof and frames the open studio front.
- Ch 27 with cream yarn.
- Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. Turn. 26 sc.
- Rows 2-34: Ch 1, sc across. Turn.
- Rows 35-40: Ch 1, sc in first 18 st only. Turn. 18 sc.
- Row 41: Ch 1, dec, sc 14, dec. Turn. 16 sc.
- Row 42: Ch 1, dec, sc 12, dec. FO. 14 sc.
This stepped shape lets the left front stay partly open like the photo. Edge the whole wall with one round of sc in cream. Stiffen with plastic canvas before assembly.
Right Wall
The right wall is full height and holds the yarn cubby, basket, and button organizer. It also supports the right sloping roof panel.
- Ch 27 with cream yarn.

- Rows 2-40: Ch 1, sc across. Turn.
- Row 41: Ch 1, dec, sc 22, dec. Turn. 24 sc.
- Row 42: Ch 1, dec, sc 20, dec. FO. 22 sc.
Work one round of sc around the wall. Add a stiff insert. Keep the front edge crisp because it will be visible beside the quilt rug.
Triangular Attic Gable
The front gable is the cream triangle under the high roof. It has a dark brown frame and one glowing round window. The back gable can be simpler but should match the roof angle.
Front Triangle

Roof Panels
The roof is oversized, thick, and rounded along the ridge and lower eaves. The pictured roof is dusty rose with dark brown trim and raised ridges. Make two panels and join them at the peak.
Left Roof Panel
- With dusty rose yarn and 3.25 mm hook, ch 48.

Raised Roof Lines
Use medium brown yarn and surface slip stitch along every fourth roof row from ridge to lower edge. Make 8 raised lines on each panel. Keep them straight so the roof looks like neatly worked crochet shingles.
Dark Interior Beams
The attic ceiling has strong dark beams running from the ridge down the sloped sides. These make the room look deep and warm.
- Make 6 beam strips with dark brown yarn: ch 33, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. Turn. 32 sc.

- Pin the left wall to the left side of the floor and the back wall. Sew along the floor edge first, then up the back corner.
- Pin the right wall the same way. Make sure both side walls lean slightly inward at the top to meet the roof.
- Center the triangular front gable under the roof peak. Sew its bottom edge to the upper front area of the back wall or side supports as needed.
- Place the roof over the structure. The ridge should sit centered, and the dark eaves should overhang the front and sides.
- Sew the roof to the gable slopes, side walls, and back wall using dark brown yarn.

Extra Wall Details
Small Side Round Window
Make one smaller round window for the side roof area. Repeat the attic window pattern through Rnd 4 only, then add one round of cream sc. Sew it to the outer roof panel and embroider a plus-shaped cross.
Wall Texture Lines
To match the photographed stitch texture, use cream yarn to surface slip stitch horizontal lines across the back and side walls every 5 rows. Keep the lines subtle so they look like soft crocheted wall planks.
Dark Base Trim
- With dark brown yarn, ch enough to fit the bottom back wall width.
- Sl st back along the chain.
- Sew along the lower back wall where it meets the floor.
- Repeat for both side walls.
Placement Guide
- Place the quilt rug on the floor, slightly angled forward, with the cream border visible outside the room.
- Set the sewing table at the center back, about 1.5 in from the wall.
- Seat the tabby cat behind the table with paws touching the fabric under the needle.
- Place the chair under the cat and tack the body to the chair so it stays seated.
- Sew the black sewing machine to the top of the table.
- Attach the thread shelf behind the cat’s head.
- Place the spool cabinet on the left wall and the dress form to the right of the table.
- Sew the button board and fabric swatches on the upper right wall.
- Place the yarn cubby on the lower right wall and the basket on the floor in front of it.
- Put the mouse helper and large spool on the floor near the table leg.
- Attach balcony, railing, flower pot, clothesline, and mushroom to the left outside area.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Sew the cat head to the body with the face looking slightly forward and down toward the sewing machine. Add extra stitches behind the ears if the head tilts too much. Sew arms forward so the paws rest close to the cream fabric.
Add final tabby stripes after the head is attached. This helps you place them correctly. Keep the center forehead stripes vertical, the cheek stripes curved, and the tail stripes evenly spaced. Add whiskers last so they stay clean.
Check every room accessory before securing it permanently. The image has a full, cozy arrangement, but each piece should still be visible. Use small hidden stitches instead of large glue spots whenever possible.
Care Notes
- Spot clean only with cool water and mild soap.
- Do not machine wash because the house contains stiff inserts and small sewn pieces.
- Keep away from heavy moisture, heat, and direct sunlight.
- If fairy lights are used, remove batteries when the display is stored.
- This design contains small parts and is intended as decor, not as a toy for children under 3.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- Roof panels are firmly sewn to both walls and gables.
- Round windows are centered and the crossbars are secure.
- Cat sits at the table with paws near the sewing fabric.
- Thread shelf, cabinet, button board, cubby, and dress form are attached straight.
- Quilt rug lies flat and extends forward like the photo.
- Balcony railing, clothesline, mushroom, and flower pot are balanced on the left side.
- All loose yarn ends are woven in and hidden.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Dust the studio gently with a soft makeup brush or clean paintbrush. Work from the roof downward so loose dust falls away from the shelves, sewing machine, cat, and rug.
If a spot appears, dampen a white cloth with cool water and press gently. Do not rub the embroidered flowers, whiskers, window details, or button board. Let the piece air dry completely before displaying again.
Store the attic sewing studio in a rigid box with tissue paper around the roof, balcony, and cat. Do not place heavy items on top. For long-term storage, keep the battery pack for lights outside the crochet house.
