Pattern Overview

This pattern uses US crochet terms and is written for a firm amigurumi fabric. Most pieces are worked in continuous spiral rounds unless the instructions say to join. Use a stitch marker in the first stitch of every round so the shaping stays even.

The rabbit is designed with a large rounded head, a smaller soft body, long upright ears, short cylindrical arms, sturdy legs, cuffed green shorts, and layered accessories. The finished doll should sit close to the proportions in the image, with the head slightly wider than the torso and the ears adding height.

Finished Size

  • Main rabbit doll: about 11 in / 28 cm tall from feet to ear tips when using sport weight cotton yarn and a 2.25 mm hook.
  • Body without ears: about 8 in / 20 cm tall.
  • Straw hat: about 3.5 in / 9 cm wide.
  • Watering can: about 2.25 in / 5.5 cm long.
  • Flower pot: about 1.5 in / 4 cm tall.

Skill Level

Intermediate beginner to intermediate. The doll uses basic amigurumi rounds, color changes, surface crochet, embroidery, small appliques, and simple sewing. A confident beginner can complete it by working slowly and marking each round carefully.

Materials

  • Sport weight cotton yarn in white, soft pink, caramel brown, green, mustard yellow, black, gray, terracotta brown, straw beige, blue, yellow, and small amounts of dark brown.
  • 2.25 mm crochet hook for the doll and accessories.
  • 2.00 mm crochet hook for flowers, bee, buttons, and small details.
  • Fiberfill stuffing.
  • Two 6 mm black safety eyes or black beads.
  • Black embroidery thread for mouth line and whisker guide if desired.
  • Brown embroidery thread for eyebrows and bag strap details.
  • Pink blush powder or pink yarn for cheeks.
  • Yarn needle.
  • Stitch markers.
  • Sewing pins.
  • Small scissors.
  • Optional thin floral wire for daisy stems and watering can spout support.

Gauge

With a 2.25 mm hook and sport weight cotton yarn, 6 sc by 6 rounds should measure about 1 in / 2.5 cm. Exact gauge is less important than firm fabric. If stuffing shows through, use a smaller hook.

Important Construction Notes

  • Work the head and body firmly so the large head keeps a smooth rounded shape.
  • Stuff the head fully, especially around the cheeks and lower face.
  • Stuff arms lightly so they hang naturally at the sides.
  • Stuff legs firmly through the feet and calves so the doll stands or sits neatly.
  • Pin all facial features before sewing. The image has a gentle centered face with a wide oval muzzle below the eyes.
  • The ears are tall, slightly pointed, and sewn upright with a slight outward angle.
  • The green overalls cover the torso and continue into short pant legs with turned cuffs.

Muzzle

Use caramel brown yarn. The muzzle in the image is a raised horizontal oval placed across the lower center of the face. Work around a foundation chain.

  1. R1: ch 8. Starting in the second ch from hook, sc 6, 3 sc in last ch. Work on the other side of the chain, sc 5, inc in last ch. (16)

FO with a long tail. Lightly stuff the muzzle so it rises like a soft cushion. Sew it between R20 and R25 of the head, centered under the eyes. The top of the muzzle should nearly touch the bottom of the eyes.

Nose and Mouth Details

  • With dark brown embroidery thread, make one short vertical stitch from the lower center of the muzzle down to the white chin.
  • Continue the line about 5 rounds below the muzzle, ending at the center of the lower face.
  • Keep the line thin and straight, matching the simple expression shown in the image.
  • Do not add a large smile. This rabbit has a calm, gentle garden-doll expression.

Cheeks and Whisker Lines

The photo shows soft pink blush on both sides of the muzzle with very fine whisker lines. You can use blush powder or crochet small pink cheek circles.

Optional Crochet Cheek Circles

  1. Make 2 with soft pink yarn and a 2.00 mm hook.
  2. R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
  3. R2: inc in each st around. (12)
  4. Sl st to finish. FO with a long tail.

Sew one cheek on each side of the muzzle, between R22 and R24 of the head. If using blush powder, apply a soft oval patch on each cheek. With pale pink thread, embroider two very light whisker stitches on each cheek, angled slightly outward.

Eyebrows

Use brown embroidery thread. Make one small curved stitch above each eye, around R15. Each eyebrow should be about 3 stitches wide. Angle them gently upward toward the center for the sweet handmade expression in the photo.

Outer Ears

Make 2 with white yarn. The ears are tall, narrow, and slightly pointed. Work in continuous rounds and stuff only at the lower base, leaving the top flat.

  1. R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. R2: (sc 1, inc) repeat 3 times. (9)

Inner Ear Panels

Make 2 with soft pink yarn. Work in rows. These panels sit inside the white ears and leave a white border visible all around.

  1. R1: ch 13. Starting in second ch from hook, sc 12. ch 1, turn. (12)
  2. R2: inc, sc 10, inc. ch 1, turn. (14)

  9. R14: dec, sc 2, dec. ch 1, turn. (4)
  10. R15: dec twice. (2)
  11. R16: dec. (1)

Do not turn after R16. Crochet an edging around the panel: sc evenly down the first side, 2 sc at the bottom corner, sc across the bottom, 2 sc at the next corner, sc up the other side, and sl st at the top. FO with a long tail.

Sew each pink inner panel to the front of a white ear. Keep the pink panel centered and smooth. The white border should look thick and rounded, just like the photo.

Sewing the Ears to the Head

  • Position the ears on top of the head between R4 and R10.
  • Place them about 8 stitches apart at the base.
  • Angle each ear slightly outward, with the pink panels facing forward.
  • Use pins before sewing. The ears should stand upright and frame the face.
  • Sew around the base twice for strength.

Body

The body is worked from the bottom upward. White yarn begins the lower body base, then green forms the overalls. The overalls are part of the doll, so the green fabric sits smoothly over the torso.

Use green yarn to begin the lower torso and overalls section.

  1. R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. R2: inc in each st around. (12)
  3. R3: (sc 1, inc) repeat 6 times. (18)

FO with a long tail. Stuff the body firmly, but do not overstuff the neck. Sew the body to the 18-stitch opening of the head. Keep the body centered under the face.

Overall Bib Front

The green bib is added over the front of the body, rising from the waistband to the chest. It gives the same garden-overall look seen in the image.

  1. Attach green yarn to a front loop from body R21 at the center front.
  2. Row 1: sc 12 across the front loops only. ch 1, turn. (12)
  3. Row 2-R7: sc in each st across. ch 1, turn. (12)
  4. Row 8: dec, sc 8, dec. ch 1, turn. (10)

  1. Ch 19.
  2. Starting in second ch from hook, sc 18.
  3. FO with a long tail.

Sew one end of each strap to the top corners of the bib. Cross or angle the straps gently over the shoulders and sew the other ends to the back of the green waistband. In the image, the front straps are visible and nearly vertical, so do not pull them too far outward.

Overall Buttons

Make 2 with caramel brown yarn and a 2.00 mm hook.

  1. R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. Sl st to the first sc and FO.

Sew one button on each upper corner of the bib, just below the straps. Use a small stitch of darker brown thread through the center of each button to create the buttonhole detail.

Shorts Cuffs

The green pant legs have a rounded cuff at the lower edge. Attach green yarn to the front loops of R16 on each leg.

  1. R1: sc in each front loop around. (14)
  2. R2: sc in each st around. (14)
  3. Sl st to finish and FO.

Fold the cuff slightly outward with your fingers. Tack it in two places if needed so it stays neat.

Striped Scarf

The scarf is long, narrow, and striped in black and white. It wraps around the neck once and hangs down on the rabbit’s left side with two uneven ends.

Use a 2.25 mm hook. Work in rows, changing color every 2 rows.

  6. Repeat the 2-row stripe pattern until the scarf measures about 11 in / 28 cm.
  7. FO and weave in ends.

Wrap the scarf around the neck after the head and body are joined. Cross the ends at the front-left side. Use a hidden stitch to secure the scarf so it keeps the same wrapped shape as the photo.

  • Make three short stems on the front of the rabbit’s right overall leg from the viewer’s left side.
  • Each stem should be 4 to 6 rounds tall.
  • Use white yarn to make 5 straight stitches around each daisy center.

Curve the handle into a rounded C shape and sew both ends to the opposite side of the can. Add one row of surface crochet in beige near the lower front if you want the subtle rim accent shown in the image.

  1. With yellow yarn, R1: 6 sc in MR. Sl st to join. (6)
  2. Change to white yarn.
  3. Petals: (ch 4, starting in second ch from hook sc 1, hdc 1, sc 1, sl st in next yellow st) repeat 6 times.
  4. FO with a long tail.

Flower Stems and Leaves

  1. For each stem, with green yarn, ch 11, 13, or 15 for different heights.
  2. Starting in second ch from hook, sl st in each ch across.
  3. FO with tails for sewing.

For leaves, attach green yarn near the lower stem, ch 5, starting in second ch from hook sc 1, hdc 2, sc 1, then sl st back into the stem. Make one or two leaves per stem.

Sew each daisy to the top of a stem. Sew or insert the stems into the soil circle. Arrange the flowers at slightly different heights, with the tallest in the center and two shorter flowers at the sides.

White Daisy Appliques for Extra Garden Detail

Use these small appliques on the overalls or beside the doll if you want the floral look to appear fuller.

  1. With yellow yarn, make 5 sc in MR and sl st to join.
  2. Change to white yarn.
  3. (ch 3, sc in second ch from hook, hdc in next ch, sl st in next center st) repeat 5 times.
  4. FO with a sewing tail.

Keep the daisies tiny. Large flowers will overpower the scale of the overalls.

Making the Rabbit Face Look Like the Photo

  • Keep the eyes close together and centered above the muzzle.
  • Place the muzzle low enough to create large soft cheeks.
  • Use a single vertical mouth line instead of a wide smile.
  • Use pale pink blush lightly. The cheeks should look soft, not bright red.
  • Make the eyebrows very small and curved.
  • Check the face from a distance before tying off embroidery knots.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

  1. Sew the head to the body using the white neck opening and the body’s 18-stitch top. Work around twice so the large head is secure.
  2. Sew the ears to the top of the head. The bases should be strong enough to hold the ears upright.
  3. Sew the arms to the sides of the body under the scarf line.
  4. Sew the legs under the body, leaving a narrow center gap between the green shorts.
  5. Attach the overall bib and straps. Add the two small brown buttons.
  6. Add the striped scarf around the neck and secure it with hidden stitches.
  7. Sew the sandals to the feet, then add the tiny flower buttons.
  8. Sew the crossbody sunflower bag to the front-right side and tack the strap diagonally across the chest.
  9. Embroider daisies and attach the tiny bee on the green overall leg.
  10. Finish the face with eyebrows, cheek blush, whiskers, and the straight mouth line.

Place the hat, watering can, and flower pot beside the rabbit for the same garden display style as the image. The accessories are separate pieces, so they can be arranged for photos or play scenes.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Store the doll in a dry place away from direct sunlight so the white yarn stays bright and the green overalls do not fade. Keep the hat brim flat when storing. Do not place heavy items on top of the ears, flower pot, or watering can.

For long-term display, dust the doll gently with a soft brush. If the scarf or bag strap shifts, smooth it back into place and secure it again with a small hidden stitch. Keep the accessories together in a small cotton bag when not displayed.

If the doll is made for a child, replace safety eyes and beads with embroidered eyes, skip wire in the accessories, and sew every small applique very firmly. Always check seams, buttons, flowers, and straps before giving the finished rabbit as a gift.
