Crochet Tutorial: Cow Daisy Meadow Dress Doll – Free Crochet Pattern.

This sweet cow doll is dressed for a sunny daisy meadow day. She has a rounded white head, pink muzzle, blue eyes, black horns, soft ears, brown hair tufts, a yellow bodice, a white skirt covered with daisies and green vines, matching sandals, a tiny shoulder bag, a yellow sun hat, a watering can, and a small yarn basket.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Pattern Overview

This pattern uses US crochet terms and is written for a firm amigurumi fabric. Work tightly enough that stuffing does not show through. The doll is built from separate pieces, then assembled carefully to match the front-facing cow doll shown in the photo.

The final doll measures about 12.5 inches tall when made with sport weight cotton and a 2.25 mm hook. The sun hat measures about 5 inches across. The shoulder bag, watering can, and yarn basket are miniature accessories sized to sit beside the doll.

Materials

  • Sport weight cotton yarn in white, yellow, green, brown, black, pink, blue, cream, gray-beige, and small amounts of bright flower colors.
  • 2.25 mm crochet hook for the doll and most pieces.
  • 2.00 mm crochet hook for flowers, eyes, eyelashes, and fine details.
  • Fiberfill stuffing.
  • 8 mm black safety eyes or black felt circles, plus blue yarn for eye rings.
  • Yarn needle, stitch markers, pins, scissors.
  • Pink blush or pink yarn for cheeks and ear shading.
  • Brown embroidery thread for smile and eyebrows.
  • Black embroidery thread for eyelashes and tiny bee stripes.

Abbreviations

  • MR: magic ring
  • ch: chain
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • sc: single crochet
  • hdc: half double crochet
  • dc: double crochet
  • tr: treble crochet
  • inc: 2 sc in the same stitch
  • dec: invisible single crochet decrease
  • BLO: back loop only
  • FLO: front loop only
  • st or sts: stitch or stitches
  • Rnd: round
  • Row: row
  • FO: fasten off

Gauge and Tension

Gauge is not strict, but the fabric must be dense. With the suggested hook, 6 sc and 6 rounds should measure about 1 inch. If your stitches are loose, use a smaller hook. If the doll becomes stiff and difficult to shape, use a slightly larger hook.

Stuff each piece gradually. The head should be rounded and full. The muzzle should be lightly stuffed so it stays oval and soft. Arms and legs should be firm enough to hold shape but not stretched.

Color Placement Notes

  • The cow body is mainly white.
  • The muzzle is pale pink and wide, covering the lower front of the face.
  • The horns are black and sit above the ears.
  • The hair is brown and sits across the forehead in chunky crochet strands.
  • The bodice is yellow with green edging.
  • The skirt is white with green vine lines and many white daisies with yellow centers.
  • The sandals are yellow with green soles and brown hoof toes.
  • Brown cow spots appear on arms, legs, and body.

Head

Use white yarn. Work in continuous rounds. Place a stitch marker at the beginning of each round. The face should be slightly wider than tall, so shape it by stuffing more at the cheeks and less at the top back.

FO with a long sewing tail. Lightly stuff the muzzle. Pin it to the face from Rnd 16 down to Rnd 24 of the head. Sew all around, keeping the oval flat and centered. The widest part should sit below the eyes.

Smile, Nostrils, Cheeks, and Face Details

  • Embroider two small curved nostrils on the upper pink muzzle using darker pink yarn.
  • Embroider a wide curved smile using brown thread across the lower muzzle.
  • Add a short vertical line from the center of the muzzle to the smile if desired.
  • Use pink blush or pink yarn to make two soft cheek marks near the side curves of the muzzle.
  • Embroider thin brown eyebrows above the eyes, curving gently upward.
  • Add 4 black eyelashes on the outer side of each eye.

Blue Eye Rings

The eyes in the photo have bright blue rings around black centers. If using safety eyes, crochet or embroider the blue rings before securing the backs. If you already attached the eyes, sew the blue rings around them carefully.

  1. With blue yarn and 2.00 mm hook, ch 10.
  2. Join with sl st to form a tiny ring around the eye.
  3. Work 14 sc into the ring, sl st to first sc.
  4. FO, leaving a long tail.

Sew ears to the head between Rnds 13 and 17, one on each side. The inner pink side should face forward. Angle the ears slightly upward so they frame the face like the image.

Horns

Make two horns in black. They are short, tapered cones placed above the ears and partly tucked into the brown hair.

  1. Rnd 1: 4 sc in MR. 4 sts.

Brown Cow Spots

Make small irregular spots for the arms, legs, and side of the body. Use brown yarn and sew them flat. Do not make every spot identical; the photo shows natural rounded patches.

Small Oval Spot

The skirt should fan outward. Block it lightly with your hands only. Do not press it flat; it needs a soft bell shape like the image.

Green Vine Embroidery on Skirt

Use green yarn and a yarn needle. Stitch vertical vine lines from waist to hem. Space them about 5 stitches apart. Each vine should curve slightly instead of being perfectly straight.

  • Start each vine at the bottom of the yellow bodice.
  • Bring the yarn down to Rnd 16 of the skirt.
  • Use small surface stitches, each about 1 round tall.
  • Add tiny diagonal leaf stitches on both sides of several vines.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Use pins before sewing every major part. The charm of this doll depends on symmetry: eyes level, muzzle centered, ears even, and horns balanced. Sew slowly with matching yarn tails.

Embroider the smile last so you can adjust the expression after the muzzle is attached. The smile should be wide and friendly. Keep the brown eyebrows soft and curved, not sharp. Add eyelashes carefully with black thread, anchoring each stitch securely.

Add blush lightly to the cheeks and inner ears. If using powder blush, apply a small amount with a cotton swab. Do not over-color the muzzle; the photo shows a gentle pink look.

Care Notes

  • Spot clean only with cool water and mild soap.
  • Do not machine wash if safety eyes, blush, or small sewn decorations are used.
  • Allow the doll to air dry fully before storing.
  • Keep the hat brim flat while drying.
  • Trim loose yarn ends only after checking that every piece is secure.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The head is round and firmly stuffed.
  • The pink muzzle is centered and lightly padded.
  • Blue eye rings, lashes, eyebrows, and smile are secure.
  • Both ears angle outward with pink centers facing front.
  • Black horns sit evenly above the ears.
  • The yellow bodice fits smoothly around the body.
  • The white skirt flares outward and has green vines.
  • Daisies cover the skirt, bag, shoes, hat, and hair accents.
  • The shoulder bag crosses the body diagonally.
  • The hat, watering can, and basket match the doll scale.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Store the cow doll in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Bright yellow and green yarn can fade if left near a window for long periods. Keep the accessories in a small box so the hat brim, watering can handle, and basket details do not bend.

For dust removal, use a soft brush and move gently over the daisies and bees. Avoid pulling on petals or embroidered vines. If the doll needs deeper cleaning, dab the dirty area with a damp cloth, then press with a dry towel.

After cleaning, reshape the skirt, ears, and hat by hand. Let everything dry flat. Do not use heat, a dryer, or strong detergent. With careful handling, this cow daisy meadow dress doll will stay bright, cheerful, and display-ready.
