Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Skill Level

Intermediate to advanced beginner. The main stitches are simple, but the project includes many small parts, firm stuffing, shaping, sewing, and careful placement. Read each section fully before starting so the treehouse, bridge, ladders, animals, and camp pieces fit neatly on the base.

Finished Size

  • Base: about 16 in wide x 12 in deep.
  • Central tree: about 13 to 15 in tall.
  • Side trees: about 7 to 9 in tall.
  • Monkeys: about 2.5 to 3 in tall.
  • Sloths: about 3 to 3.5 in long.
  • River: about 2 in wide x 8 in long.

Materials

  • Worsted weight yarn in dark brown, medium brown, tan, beige, cream, moss green, dark green, leaf green, light green, sky blue, gray, orange, yellow, rust, khaki, and black.
  • 3.0 mm crochet hook for firm amigurumi pieces.
  • 3.5 mm crochet hook for flat base, river, tents, and rope bridge.
  • Fiberfill stuffing.
  • Yarn needle, stitch markers, scissors, pins.

  • Thin floral wire or pipe cleaners for monkey tails, tree branches, ladder sides, and sloth hanging arms.
  • Wooden dowels or bamboo skewers for the tall tree support and bridge posts.
  • Optional: small safety eyes, or use embroidered eyes for a child-safe version.
  • Hot glue may be used only for display pieces. For washable or child-safe pieces, sew everything securely instead.

Abbreviations

  • MR = magic ring
  • ch = chain
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • tr = treble crochet
  • inc = 2 sc in the same stitch
  • dec = invisible single crochet decrease
  • BLO = back loop only
  • FLO = front loop only
  • st = stitch
  • rnd = round
  • FO = fasten off

Gauge and Notes

Gauge is not critical, but stitches must be tight enough so stuffing does not show. For the animals and tree trunks, use a hook smaller than your yarn label suggests. The pictured style has firm, rounded shapes, visible crochet texture, and compact proportions.

Work most amigurumi parts in continuous rounds. Use a stitch marker at the first stitch of each round. Stuff gradually and firmly, especially in the tree trunks, heads, bodies, tents, and animal limbs. Do not overstuff leaves, ropes, or bridges because they need a softer handmade texture.

Construction Overview

  • Make the rectangular moss base first.
  • Add the blue stream, pebble borders, campfire area, tents, logs, and plants.
  • Crochet the tall central tree and two smaller side trees.
  • Build leafy tree canopies with individual leaves and round clusters.
  • Add platforms, windows, door openings, ladders, bridge, rope swing, and zip line.
  • Crochet monkeys, sloths, and small camp details.
  • Sew or attach everything onto the base in balanced layers.

Rectangular Moss Base

The base should look like a soft jungle floor with irregular moss texture. Make a flat rectangle, then add green surface stitches, small bumps, and grass clusters. Insert a stiff backing so the tall trees stand upright without leaning.

Base Panel

  1. With moss green and 3.5 mm hook, ch 49.
  2. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. Turn. 48 sts.
  3. Rows 2 to 40: ch 1, sc across. Turn. 48 sts.
  4. Rows 41 to 44: ch 1, work random texture by alternating sc, hdc, sc, sl st, sc across. Turn each row.
  5. FO, leaving a long tail if you want to sew the base around an insert.

Base Edging

  1. Join moss green in any corner.
  2. Rnd 1: sc evenly around all four sides, placing 3 sc in each corner.
  3. Rnd 2: BLO sc around to create a neat raised edge.
  4. Rnd 3: sc around, placing 3 sc in each corner again. FO.

Optional Firm Insert

Cut plastic canvas or foam board slightly smaller than the crocheted rectangle. Make a second plain rectangle the same size as the first panel, place the insert between both layers, and sc through both layers around the edge. This keeps the diorama flat and stable.

Moss Texture

  • Attach dark green yarn randomly to the top surface.
  • Work small patches of ch 3, sl st in next surface stitch, ch 4, sl st in next surface stitch.
  • Make 18 to 25 moss bumps by working: MR, 6 sc in ring, sl st to close, FO, then sew onto the base.
  • Add light green short strands near ladders, campfire, tents, and tree roots.

Blue Stream

The stream runs from the front edge toward the central tree, slightly curving through the camp. It should be narrow, bright, and bordered by pebble stones. Use textured stitches so it looks like water flowing over the moss.

  1. With sky blue and 3.5 mm hook, ch 10.
  2. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc across. Turn. 9 sts.
  3. Row 2: ch 1, sc across. Turn.
  4. Row 3: ch 1, inc, sc 7, inc. Turn. 11 sts.
  5. Rows 4 to 10: ch 1, sc across. Turn. 11 sts.
  6. Row 11: ch 1, dec, sc 7, dec. Turn. 9 sts.
  7. Rows 12 to 23: ch 1, sc across. Turn. 9 sts.
  8. Row 24: ch 1, sc 2, hdc 5, sc 2. Turn.
  9. Row 25: ch 1, sc across. FO.

Surface crochet short white or pale blue lines across the stream. Use 5 to 7 uneven lines, each 3 to 6 stitches long. Sew the stream to the base, starting at the front center and angling slightly toward the tall tree.

Pebble Border

The pictured stream has small rounded stones along both sides. Make pebbles in gray, tan, cream, and beige. Sew them close together but not perfectly even, so the riverbank looks natural.

Small Pebble

  1. MR, 5 sc in ring.
  2. Rnd 2: inc around. 10 sts.
  3. Rnd 3: sc around. 10 sts.
  4. Rnd 4: dec around. 5 sts.
  5. FO and close. Do not overstuff.

Flat Pebble

  2. Rnd 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 2, 3 sc in last ch, work on other side of chain, sc 2, inc. 10 sts.
  3. Rnd 2: sc around. FO.

Make 24 to 32 pebbles total. Sew them along both stream edges and scatter 4 to 6 extra stones near the bridge, campfire, and tents.

Central Tall Tree Trunk

The tall center tree is the main support. It has a long brown trunk, small oval doorways, root bumps, a platform around the middle, and a leafy canopy at the top. Use a dowel or stiff tube inside for stability.

  1. With dark brown and 3.0 mm hook, make MR.
  2. Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
  3. Rnd 2: inc around. 12 sts.

  12. Rnd 65: repeat sc 1, dec around. 12 sts.
  13. Rnd 66: dec around. 6 sts.
  14. FO and close.

Central Tree Bark Ridges

  • With medium brown, surface crochet 6 vertical lines from bottom to top.
  • Make each line slightly uneven by skipping a round occasionally.
  • Add 8 short tan lines, each 3 to 5 sc long, as bark highlights.
  • Place highlights mostly on the front and side areas visible in the finished display.

  2. Rnd 2: inc around. 12 sts.
  3. Rnd 3: sc around.
  4. Rnd 4: repeat sc 1, dec around. 8 sts.
  5. Stuff lightly and FO.

Make 10 to 14 leaf sprigs and 5 to 7 small bushes. Sew them around the base edges, beside the ladders, near the tents, and at the foot of each tree.

Rope Posts

The bridge, ladders, and zip line need small upright posts. These posts also add the handmade campsite look seen in the image.

  1. With tan, MR, 6 sc in ring.
  2. Rnds 2 to 10: sc around. 6 sts.
  3. Insert a toothpick, skewer piece, or pipe cleaner.
  4. FO, leaving a long tail.

Make 8 to 10 posts. Sew them near the bridge ends, ladder bases, and zip line area. Wrap tan yarn around the tops to imitate tied rope.

Placement Guide

  • Place the central tree slightly behind the middle of the base.
  • Place the left small tree toward the front-left corner, beside the stream.
  • Place the right small tree toward the back-right corner.
  • Run the stream from the front center toward the central tree.
  • Place the tents on the right side behind the campfire.
  • Place the campfire in front of the tents, not too close to the bridge.
  • Attach the rope bridge from the central platform to the right tree platform.
  • Lean the large ladder from the front-left moss area to the left tree platform.
  • Attach monkeys to ladders, platforms, and trunks.
  • Hang sloths from the upper rope line and right branch.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

  1. Sew the stream to the moss base first, then add pebble borders.
  2. Sew the central tree to the base through the bottom round and roots. Reinforce around the trunk several times.
  3. Sew the two small trees in place and check that the trunks stand upright.
  4. Attach canopies to the tops of the trunks. Hide joins with extra leaves.
  5. Sew platforms around the trunks and secure all rail posts.
  6. Attach the rope bridge and ladders. Add posts where ropes meet the ground.
  7. Sew tents, campfire, log bundles, bushes, and leaf sprigs onto the base.
  8. Sew monkeys and sloths in their final positions.
  9. Embroider monkey noses, smiles, and eyebrows with black yarn.
  10. Give sloths sleepy curved eyes or small safety eyes with dark face patches.

For the most charming expression, keep the animal faces simple. Use tiny straight stitches for noses and small curved stitches for smiles. The monkeys should look curious and playful. The sloths should look relaxed, with arms curved around the rope or branch.

Care Notes

  • This project is best used as a decorative display piece.
  • If you used cardboard, glue, wire, or wooden supports, do not machine wash.
  • Spot clean with a slightly damp cloth.
  • Let the diorama air dry fully before storing.
  • Keep away from heavy moisture and direct heat.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • All trees stand straight and are firmly attached.
  • The central platform is level and secured around the trunk.
  • The bridge has a gentle dip but does not pull the trees inward.
  • Ladders are stitched at both top and bottom ends.
  • Animals are sewn securely to ropes, ladders, branches, or platforms.
  • Pebbles and plants cover visible joins on the moss base.
  • Facial details are neat, centered, and firmly knotted on the inside when possible.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Dust the finished jungle treehouse camp with a soft brush or a cool hair dryer on low speed. Support the trees with one hand while cleaning the bridge and ladders so the stitched joints are not pulled.

Store the piece in a box tall enough for the central canopy. Add tissue paper around the animals and bridge to prevent bending. Keep the display away from strong sunlight to protect the greens, browns, and bright campfire colors.

If a ladder or rope loosens over time, reattach it with matching yarn and a yarn needle. Avoid pulling long yarn floats. Trim only loose fuzz, never structural stitches. With gentle care, the treehouse adventure camp will stay bright, upright, and ready for display.
