Crochet Tutorial: Farm Fresh Duck Market Stand – Free Crochet Pattern.

Create a cheerful crochet farm market scene with a green display mat, wooden-style market stand, layered straw-look roof, leafy garlands, hanging fruit, baskets of vegetables, a white duck seller in a straw hat, a yellow duckling customer, and a small hedgehog friend. This amigurumi display is designed as a detailed tabletop crochet project with separate pieces sewn together for a cozy farm-fresh look.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Finished Size

  • Base mat: about 14 in wide by 12 in deep.
  • Market stand: about 9 in wide, 8 in tall, and 5 in deep.
  • Large duck: about 4.5 in tall without hat.
  • Duckling: about 2.5 in tall.
  • Hedgehog: about 2.25 in tall.
  • Vegetable baskets: about 1.25 to 2 in wide each.

Skill Level

Intermediate. The stitches are simple, but the project uses many small parts, shaping, sewing, surface details, and careful placement. A confident beginner can make it slowly by completing one section at a time.

Materials

  • Sport or DK weight cotton yarn in grass green, light green, dark green, tan, medium brown, dark brown, white, yellow, orange, red, purple, cream, beige, and small amounts of blue.
  • 2.25 mm crochet hook for amigurumi parts.
  • 2.75 mm crochet hook for the base mat and roof panels.
  • 6 mm black safety eyes for large duck.
  • 5 mm black safety eyes for duckling and hedgehog.
  • Black embroidery thread for tiny face details.
  • Fiberfill stuffing.
  • Yarn needle.
  • Stitch markers.
  • Cardboard or plastic canvas for stand floor, back wall, side walls, counter, and roof support.
  • Wooden skewers or firm floral wire for hidden post support, optional but helpful.
  • Fabric glue, optional for securing roof fringe and sign only.

Abbreviations Used

  • MR: magic ring
  • ch: chain
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • sc: single crochet
  • hdc: half double crochet
  • dc: double crochet
  • inc: 2 sc in the same stitch
  • dec: invisible single crochet decrease
  • BLO: back loop only
  • FLO: front loop only
  • FO: fasten off
  • st or sts: stitch or stitches
  • R: round or row

Gauge Notes

Gauge is not strict for this decorative project, but tight stitches are important. With the 2.25 mm hook, 6 sc by 6 rounds should measure about 1 inch. If your stitches are loose, use a smaller hook so stuffing does not show.

The stand pieces should feel firm. Crochet the walls and roof tightly, then place cardboard or plastic canvas inside before sewing. This gives the market stand the upright shape shown in the image.

General Construction Notes

  • Work amigurumi pieces in continuous rounds unless instructed to join.
  • Stuff the ducks, hedgehog body, baskets, and larger vegetables lightly but firmly.
  • The market stand is built from flat crochet panels sewn around hidden supports.
  • The roof has a crocheted tan base, then rows of long yarn fringe are attached to imitate straw.
  • All produce is made separately and sewn or tucked into baskets.
  • Use the photo as a placement guide: large baskets in front, duck behind the counter, duckling and hedgehog on the right.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Use a soft brush to remove dust from the roof, baskets, and small vegetables. For stains, dab gently with cool water and mild soap. Do not rub the fringe, because it may loosen or become fuzzy.

Let the whole piece air dry flat. Avoid heat, dryers, soaking, or harsh cleaners. If storing long term, place tissue around the duck, posts, and roof to protect the shape. Keep the display in a breathable box so the yarn stays fresh.
