Clematis Climbing Arch Caravan – Crochet

Clematis Climbing Arch Caravan – Crochet

Bring a tiny, cozy camper scene to life with this clematis-covered caravan and its charming outdoor vignette. If you love miniature crochet decor, amigurumi animals, and dollhouse-style crochet furniture, this project feels like a handmade collectible you’d spot in a crochet caravan kit listing or a boutique artisan camper display for sale.

This design is packed with small details that elevate it into a premium-looking crochet keepsake: a cutaway interior with a desk nook, a stocked kitchen wall, bunks with textured bedding, and a patio moment with tea and dessert. It’s ideal for anyone searching to buy crochet miniatures, crochet dollhouse furniture, or a crochet camper diorama.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Overview

You will crochet a navy-and-cream cutaway caravan with a rounded roof, a clematis climbing arch of purple-and-white flowers, and a fully staged interior. You’ll also make the fox character in a hoodie and striped pants, a tiny roof bird in a hat, and the outdoor set: bench, café table with treats, red mailbox, and a bicycle with flower basket.

  • Style: miniature amigurumi + dollhouse interior scene
  • Construction: mostly worked in continuous rounds for plush pieces and rows for flat furnishings
  • Skill level: confident beginner to intermediate (many small parts, simple stitches)

Finished Size (Approximate)

Sizing depends on yarn choice and tension. Keep stitches tight so the caravan holds shape and the minis look crisp. With sport/DK yarn for the caravan and finer yarn for accessories, the caravan looks like a tabletop display. The fox stands in front and reaches about the lower doorway height in the photo.

  • Caravan: tabletop display scale, cutaway opening shows two rooms
  • Fox: small standing plush, big head and short body proportions
  • Furniture and minis: 1:12-ish feel, but adjusted to match the scene

Materials

Use smooth, non-fuzzy yarn so the details stay sharp. Cotton or cotton-blend works beautifully for mini décor. Acrylic is fine for the fox plush if you want softer shaping. Choose shades close to the photo: navy, cream, purples, leafy green, warm tan, and pops of red and sky blue.

  • Yarn (Caravan): DK or sport weight in navy and cream
  • Yarn (Flowers/Leaves): sport weight in purple (dark), lavender (medium), white, and green
  • Yarn (Fox and clothing): DK in fox orange, cream/white, tan/beige, brown, light gray
  • Yarn (Mini accessories): fingering or crochet thread size 10–20 for cups, books, jars, clock, labels
  • Stuffing: fiberfill for animals and a few soft items
  • Structure: craft foam sheet, felt, or thin plastic canvas for caravan walls and furniture (recommended)
  • Wire (optional): 22–24 gauge for bicycle frame and mailbox post
  • Safety eyes (optional): small (6–8 mm) for fox, or embroider eyes
  • Embroidery floss: black and white for details
  • Stiffener (optional): fabric stiffener or diluted white glue for flowers/leaves

Hook Sizes (Important)

This project includes many mini details. Switching hook sizes is the key to getting firm walls and tiny, clean accessories. If your stitches look loose, go down a hook size. Always aim for a dense fabric with no gaps unless a piece is meant to drape like the blanket.

  • 3.0 mm (or 3.25 mm): caravan shell, main walls, roof cover, wheel, bench base
  • 2.5 mm: bunks, shelves, cabinet doors, desk, interior mats
  • 2.0 mm: flowers, leaves, small décor pieces (pans, jars, books)
  • 1.5–1.75 mm: micro items (cups, saucers, pastry, clock details, mailbox label)

Notions and Tools

  • Yarn needle, scissors, stitch markers
  • Craft glue (optional but helpful for staging minis)
  • Cardboard or foam board for templates
  • Small pliers (if using wire)
  • Measuring tape, pins or clips

Stitches and Abbreviations

  • ch = chain
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • inc = increase (2 sc in same stitch)
  • dec = invisible decrease
  • blo = back loop only
  • flo = front loop only
  • st(s) = stitch(es)
  • rnd = round
  • rep = repeat

Gauge and Tension

Gauge is not critical, but density is. Your caravan body should stand firm and keep a clean arch. If the shell slumps, use a smaller hook or add structure inserts. The flower petals should lie flat and crisp; stiffen lightly if needed.

Color Palette Notes

  • Caravan: deep navy base with cream upper banding
  • Roof edge: navy
  • Flowers: mix of white petals with purple centers and deep purple flowers
  • Leaves: medium green, layered densely along the arch
  • Outdoor pops: bright red scarf and mailbox
  • Interior: warm neutrals, soft blue bedding, tiny colorful shelf items

Planning the Build Order

To match the scene, build the caravan shell first, then add the doorway cutaway trim, floor, and wheel. Next, crochet and install the interior furniture: desk nook, wall shelf with spools/jars, hanging pans, cabinet, ladder shelf with potted clematis, and bunk bed with bedding. Finish with the roof flowers, then the outdoor set and characters.

  1. Caravan shell (walls + arch roof)
  2. Cutaway opening trim and interior floor
  3. Wheel, tow hitch, and base accents
  4. Interior furniture and wall décor
  5. Roof clematis flowers and leaves
  6. Outdoor furniture and props
  7. Fox character (hat, hoodie, pants, shoes)
  8. Roof bird with hat
  9. Final staging and tiny placements

Caravan Shell (3.0 mm Hook)

The caravan is a rounded rectangle with a large side cutaway. To get the same look, crochet a firm outer “skin,” then reinforce with a foam/board insert. The navy lower band wraps around the base, and the cream upper body forms the arch roof area.

Outer Base Ring

Work a long oval in rounds to create the caravan footprint. Keep the oval slightly elongated, with rounded ends, matching the side profile in the photo. Place a marker for the center of the long sides to align the wheel and door opening later.

  1. Ch 46 with navy.
  2. Rnd 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (45). 3 sc in last ch. sc along underside (44). 2 sc in last ch. (94)
  3. Rnd 2: inc, sc 43, inc x3 around end, sc 44, inc x2 around end. (100)
  4. Rnd 3: sc around, adding 2 inc evenly at each rounded end to keep the oval smooth. (about 104)
  5. Rnd 4: sc around. (about 104)

Adjust length by adding or subtracting starting chains, but keep proportions: long enough for the interior to show two zones (desk nook and bunks) with a central divider area. The base should sit stable on a table.

Lower Wall Band (Navy)

Build up the navy band to the same height as in the image: it covers the lower third of the caravan and frames the wheel area. Work in continuous rounds, then switch to cream for the upper walls.

  1. Rnd 5–14: sc around in navy. (10 rounds)
  2. Rnd 15: blo sc around to create a crisp edge for the cream transition.

Upper Walls and Roof (Cream + Navy Edge)

Switch to cream to create the thick arched body. The roof edge remains navy along the far right curve in the photo, so you’ll add a navy roof cap later. First, crochet cream height, then shape the top arch with short rows and a curved insert.

  1. Rnd 16–26: sc around in cream. (11 rounds)
  2. Rnd 27: sc around, placing markers for the large side cutaway (opening spans most of the right side), and for the left rounded doorway arch.

Do not cut the opening yet. You will cut the opening by crocheting a separate cutaway frame and attaching it. This preserves structure and makes clean edges.

Structure Insert (Recommended)

Trace the caravan side profile onto craft foam or sturdy felt: one full side (no opening) and one cutaway side (big window-like opening). Also trace the oval floor. These inserts keep the walls straight and the roof nicely arched, matching the crisp look in the photo.

  • Cut floor oval to match the base ring.
  • Cut solid back wall (same oval outline as the side).
  • Cut cutaway wall with a large rectangular-arched opening.
  • Dry fit inside the crocheted shell before closing seams.

Cutaway Opening Frame and Trim (2.5–3.0 mm Hook)

The cutaway opening has a thick cream frame with navy trim at the bottom edge. There is also a smaller arched doorway opening on the left side that leads into the desk nook. Create both frames as separate pieces so you can control their shapes precisely.

Main Cutaway Frame

Measure your opening: it should reveal the central kitchen wall and the bunk bed area. Crochet a rectangular-arched frame in cream, then add a navy lower band and two small cream accent stripes like the photo.

  1. With cream and 3.0 mm: ch to match opening width (approx 40–44).
  2. Row 1: sc across. ch 1, turn.
  3. Row 2–10: sc across to build thickness (adjust height to match the opening frame).
  4. Shape arch: on the last 6 rows, dec 1 st at both ends every row to round the top corners.
  5. Edge round: sc evenly around the entire frame, placing 3 sc in each tight corner curve.

Attach the frame to the shell with whip stitch. Keep stitches snug so the frame sits flat and thick. The cream frame must look like a padded crochet “wall.”

Left Inner Doorway Arch

The left side shows an arched doorway into a small office nook. Create a smaller arched frame in navy with a cream inner edge to match the photo’s layered doorway look.

  1. With navy and 2.5 mm: ch 22.
  2. Row 1–6: sc across, ch 1, turn.
  3. Row 7–10: dec at both ends each row to curve the top.
  4. Round edge: sc around in navy.
  5. Add cream inner trim: with cream, sl st around the inner edge only.

Lower Exterior Accent Stripes

On the lower wall band, the photo shows two cream stripes across the navy near the opening edges. Add them as surface crochet or as small sewn strips.

  • Cut two cream strips: 2 rows tall, 10–12 stitches long.
  • Sew one on each side of the cutaway opening, aligned horizontally.

Floor and Interior Divider Zones

Inside, the floor reads as a warm wood tone in the left nook and a soft lavender/purple mat in the center area. You can crochet two floor mats that sit on the base insert. This gives a clean, staged look and helps separate the “rooms.”

Wood-Plank Floor Mat (Left Nook, 2.5 mm Hook)

  1. With tan: ch 22.
  2. Row 1: sc across, ch 1, turn.
  3. Row 2–14: sc across. (Make a rectangle that fits the left nook.)
  4. Add “plank lines”: surface sl st with darker brown every 3–4 stitches lengthwise.

Purple Center Rug (2.5 mm Hook)

  1. With lavender: ch 20.
  2. Row 1–12: sc across, ch 1, turn.
  3. Border: sc evenly around with 3 sc in corners.

Wheel and Tow Hitch (3.0 mm Hook)

The caravan has one visible wheel: black tire with a light gray center. The hitch on the left is a short navy tongue with a tiny support wheel. Keep these firm and slightly flat so the caravan sits stable.

Main Wheel

  1. With black: MR, 6 sc.
  2. Rnd 2: inc x6 (12)
  3. Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x6 (18)
  4. Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x6 (24)
  5. Rnd 5: (3 sc, inc) x6 (30)
  6. Rnd 6: blo sc around (30)
  7. Rnd 7–8: sc around (30)
  8. Switch to gray: Rnd 9: blo sc around (30)
  9. Rnd 10: (3 sc, dec) x6 (24)
  10. Rnd 11: (2 sc, dec) x6 (18)
  11. Rnd 12: (sc, dec) x6 (12)
  12. Stuff lightly, Rnd 13: dec x6 (6), fasten off.

Sew wheel centered under the cutaway opening, slightly left of the bench area, matching the photo. Add a small gray spiral “hub” with surface chain if desired.

Tow Hitch and Support Wheel

  • Hitch arm: with navy, ch 10. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch and across (9). Row 2–4: sc across. Sew to left base front.
  • Support wheel: tiny black circle with gray center (same steps as main wheel but stop at 18 sts).
  • Stand post: embroider or use a short black cord stitched down.

Roof Clematis Climbing Arch (2.0 mm Hook)

The defining feature is the dense cascade of clematis blooms and leaves climbing over the left curve and across the roof. You will make multiple flower sizes in white and purple, then layer them with green leaves. Keep placement thickest on the left arch and taper toward the right.

Clematis Flower (Large, White with Purple Center)

Make many. Each has 6 pointed petals with a starry center. Use white for petals and add purple embroidery at the center spokes, just like the photo’s white flowers with purple detail.

  1. With white: MR, ch 1, 6 sc in ring. sl st to first sc. (6)
  2. Petal 1: (ch 6, sl st in 2nd ch, sc, hdc, dc, dc), sl st into same base st.
  3. Rep Petal 1 in each of the 6 base sts.
  4. Fasten off. Shape petals by pinching points.
  5. Center detail: with purple floss, stitch 6 tiny “spokes” from center outward 3–4 mm.

Clematis Flower (Medium, Lavender)

  1. With lavender: MR, 6 sc, join.
  2. In each st: (ch 5, sl st in 2nd ch, sc, hdc, dc), sl st back into same base st.
  3. Fasten off. Add a tiny darker purple knot at center.

Clematis Flower (Dark Purple)

These appear as solid purple blooms among the whites. Make fewer, but place them evenly for contrast.

  1. With dark purple: MR, 6 sc, join.
  2. In each st: (ch 5, sl st, sc, hdc, hdc), sl st into same base st.
  3. Optional: add 1 round of sl st around petals for thickness.

Leaves (Two Sizes)

Leaves are layered and plentiful. Make small leaves for filler and larger leaves to frame flower clusters.

  • Small leaf: ch 6. sc in 2nd ch, hdc, dc, hdc, sc. sl st in last ch. Fasten off.
  • Large leaf: ch 9. sc in 2nd ch, hdc, dc, dc, dc, hdc, sc. sl st. Fasten off.

Vine Strands

Use thin green yarn with a 2.0 mm hook. These vines help you anchor flowers cleanly across the roof and down the left side.

  1. Ch 40–70 depending on placement.
  2. Work sl st back down the chain for a firm cord.
  3. Make 6–10 vines.

Attaching the Clematis Canopy

Start at the left lower side, climbing upward around the arch. Layer leaves first, then anchor flowers on top. Keep the heaviest cluster on the left side of the roof, with white flowers prominent and deep purple flowers tucked between them, matching the photo.

  • Pin a vine along the left arch edge and sew it down every 1–2 cm.
  • Sew 2–3 leaves per flower cluster, pointing outward.
  • Add large white flowers first, then fill gaps with lavender and dark purple blooms.
  • Extend a thinner vine line across the top toward the right.

Roof Bird with Hat (2.0 mm Hook for Bird, 1.75–2.0 mm for Hat)

A tiny bird sits on the right roof edge. It has a cream body, brown wings, a darker face mask, and a small brimmed hat. Keep it small and firm so it perches neatly.

Bird Body

  1. With cream: MR, 6 sc.
  2. Rnd 2: inc x6 (12)
  3. Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x6 (18)

  • Handle: ch 6, sl st back, sew to pan top.
  • Hanging loop: stitch a tiny loop so you can tack them to the wall.

Wall Shelf with Colorful Spools/Jars

The shelf has rows of small, bright pieces that read like yarn spools or jars. Crochet a shelf frame, then add tiny cylinders or rectangles in multiple colors and glue/sew them in place.

  1. Shelf frame: with tan, ch 18. Row 1: sc across (17). Row 2–3: sc across. Fasten off.
  2. Side supports: make 2 strips, ch 6, sc 5 for 3 rows.
  3. Sew supports behind the shelf.
  4. Spools/jars: with 1.75–2.0 mm, make 10–14 tiny pieces (bright yellow, red, green, blue).

Tiny spool: MR 6 sc; Rnd 2 (sc, inc) x3 (9); Rnd 3 sc (9); fasten off. Flatten slightly and stitch to shelf.

  3. Rnd 3: sc around (12)
  4. Rnd 4: blo sc around (12)
  5. Rnd 5–6: sc around (12)
  6. Rnd 7: (sc, inc) x6 (18) for a flared rim.
  7. Fasten off. Insert a small stuffing ball.

Fill with green “soil” felt or a tiny green crochet circle. Add 3–5 clematis flowers and several leaves, echoing the roof colors but smaller.

Small Pot (Middle Shelf)

  • Same as flower pot, but stop at 12 sts and fewer rounds.
  • Add a small green tuft (short strands knotted and trimmed).

Blue Cup/Kettle (Bottom Shelf, 1.75–2.0 mm Hook)

  1. With light blue: MR 6 sc.

Blue Pillow

  • With dark blue: ch 10. Row 1–8: sc across (9).
  • Make 2 panels, sew, lightly stuff.

Lower Bunk Bedding

Use warm yellow and navy accents to echo the interior palette. Keep it simple: a flat mattress and a folded blanket so the interior does not look crowded.

  • Mattress: same as top, but in pale cream.
  • Blanket: ch 18, hdc rows 8–10 in warm yellow or tan.
  • Small pillow: navy mini rectangle, lightly stuffed.

Interior: Upper Shelf with Vase, Clock, and Books (1.75–2.0 mm Hook)

Clock

  • With light gray: MR 6 sc; Rnd 2 inc x6 (12); sl st, fasten off.
  • Embroider hands in black floss and add a tiny center dot.
  • Option: add a darker rim with surface sl st.

Books (Make 3–5)

Books read as small rectangles. Crochet micro strips and fold into tiny “covers,” or wrap yarn around cardboard slivers. Use navy, red, and teal to match the photo’s shelf color pops.

  • Ch 8, sc 7 for 4 rows, fasten off. Fold around a cardboard strip and stitch closed.
  • Add a thin white “spine label” with embroidery thread.

Interior: Desk Nook with Bulletin Board (2.0–2.5 mm Hook)

The left nook shows a desk with a dark chair and a wall board filled with photos, notes, and hanging pieces. The desk surface holds a small laptop. This area should feel like a tiny work corner tucked behind the arched doorway.

Desk

  • Top: with tan and 2.5 mm, ch 18. Row 1–6: sc 17.
  • Legs: make 4 strips, ch 4, sc 3 for 6 rows.

Create a tan panel and stitch on tiny rectangles to represent photos, notes, and pinned cards. Add a short “string line” with small hanging photo squares, matching the busy collage look in the photo.

  1. With tan: ch 18. Row 1–14: sc 17. Border with sc.
  2. Notes: cut felt or crochet tiny rectangles in cream and light gray.
  3. Photo squares: 4–6 tiny white squares with darker borders.
  4. String line: embroider a line and tack photos under it.

Outdoor Bench with Gingham Throw (3.0 mm Hook)

In front of the caravan is a tan bench with a navy-and-white check throw draped over the seat. Make the bench firm and boxy, and make the throw thin and flexible so it lays naturally.

Bench Base

  • Seat top: with tan, ch 22. Row 1–10: sc 21.
  • Front panel: ch 22, sc 21 for 6 rows.
  • Back panel: ch 22, sc 21 for 8 rows.
  • Sides: ch 10, sc 9 for 8 rows (make 2).
  • Sew into a shallow box. Insert foam for a crisp shape.

Gingham Throw (2.5 mm Hook)

To mimic a check print with crochet, use a simple colorwork grid. Keep floats neat, or carry yarn along edges and hide with a border. Aim for a navy-and-white check that reads clearly at mini scale.

  1. With white: ch 24.
  2. Row 1: sc 23. ch 1, turn.
  3. Row 2: work 3 sc in white, 3 sc in navy, repeat across.
  4. Row 3: repeat Row 2, but swap colors every 3 stitches to create checks.
  5. Work 12–16 rows total. Border with sc in navy.

Outdoor Café Table with Tea and Pastry (1.75–2.5 mm Hook)

The small round table has a slender post base and a circular top. On it are a white cup and saucer, and a pastry on a plate. Keep these very small and neat; they are the “wow” details in front of the bench.

Table Top (2.5 mm)

  1. With tan: MR 6 sc.
  2. Rnd 2: inc x6 (12)
  3. Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x6 (18)
  4. Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x6 (24)
  5. Rnd 5: (3 sc, inc) x6 (30)
  6. Fasten off. Slightly stiffen if needed.

Table Post and Base (2.5 mm)

  • Post: with gray, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch (6). Rnd 2–10: sc around.
  • Feet base: make 3 small “arms” (ch 6, sl st back) and sew evenly around the bottom.
  • Glue or sew post centered under table top.

Plate and Pastry (1.75–2.0 mm)

  • Plate: with white, MR 6 sc; Rnd 2 inc x6 (12); sl st, fasten off.

  • Make 10–16 mixed leaves (small and large).
  • Sew leaves in layered rows, pointing outward.
  • Tuck vine cords behind leaves for a natural climbing look.

Placement Guide to Match the Scene

Use this checklist while staging so your finished piece reads like the photo. Work left to right: desk nook visible through the smaller arch doorway, kitchen wall and ladder shelf in the center, and bunks on the right with the blue bobble blanket and star pillow. Outside, place bench and café table, then mailbox and bicycle.

  • Left nook: desk + chair + bulletin board + laptop centered on desk
  • Center wall: hanging pans left, colorful shelf centered, cabinet below
  • Center floor: ladder shelf in front with potted clematis on top
  • Right: bunk bed with blue bobble blanket on top and star pillow visible
  • Roof: clematis canopy heaviest on left, bird perched on right edge
  • Front: fox stands left of bench, red scarf on ground near wheel
  • Right front: red mailbox and bicycle with flower basket

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Sew the cutaway frame cleanly so edges look thick and even. Add the roof navy edge cap if needed by crocheting a navy strip and stitching along the right curve. For the fox, ensure the muzzle is centered and the eyes are level. Add subtle white highlights with embroidery for a friendly expression.

Care Notes

This is a display piece with many small parts. Keep it out of reach of very young children and pets. If you used glue, avoid soaking. Store away from direct sunlight to prevent fading, especially for purples and reds.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • Caravan shell is firm and stands without sagging
  • Cutaway opening edges are smooth and evenly stitched
  • Wheel and hitch are aligned and stable
  • Interior items are secured (pans, shelf items, books, clock, vase)
  • Bunk bedding shows the blue bobbles and yellow star clearly
  • Clematis canopy is dense on the left and balanced across the roof
  • Fox outfit matches: hat, hoodie drawstrings, shoulder flowers, striped pants, shoes
  • Outdoor set placed: bench, gingham throw, table with cup and pastry, mailbox, bicycle basket flowers

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Dust gently using a soft makeup brush or a small clean paintbrush. For spot cleaning, use a barely damp cotton swab with mild soap, then blot dry. Avoid pulling on petals and tiny handles. If storing long-term, place in a box with tissue paper supports so the flowers and roof bird keep their shape.
