Pattern Overview

This pattern is written in US English and is designed to recreate the doll in the image as closely as possible.

The doll has a large round head, a slim neck, a narrow upper torso, a full skirted lower body, short standing legs, small rounded shoes, soft dangling arms, long wavy hair, pointed fairy ears, large white wings, a bluebell hat, a small handbag, a flower basket, and a tiny teapot.

The overall look depends on tight stitches, neat shaping, balanced stuffing, and careful layering.

Finished size: about 13 to 15 inches tall including hat, depending on yarn and tension.

Gauge and Construction Notes

This doll should be worked with very tight tension so the stuffing does not show through.

Most body pieces are crocheted in continuous rounds unless noted otherwise.

Use a stitch marker at the start of every round.

The dress is built in layers over the body to match the richly tiered look in the image.

The underskirt and overskirt both matter. Do not skip them.

Many trims are decorative and should be sewn on after blocking lightly with fingers.

Important shaping note: the doll in the image has a relatively large head, compact torso, and wide lower silhouette. Keep the upper body slim and let the skirt create volume.

Color Placement Summary

  • Blue: bodice, sleeves, overskirt, hat, shoes, purse
  • White: lace trim, apron panels, wings, underskirt edging, hat edge

Use 2 to 3 small wraps only.

Add a tiny downward curve or neutral mouth one row below if desired, but keep it very subtle.

Upper sleeve puff: attach blue yarn around upper arm seam and work 14 to 16 hdc evenly.

Next round: (hdc inc) around lightly or work 2 hdc in every other stitch to create a gathered sleeve cap.

Add a white ruffle edge under the blue sleeve if needed to match the layered cuff look.

Shoes Strap Detail

With blue yarn, embroider or crochet a strap across the top front of each shoe.

Add a tiny white center stitch or knot if desired.

The shoes should look neat and rounded, not oversized.

Skirt Base

The skirt is the most important silhouette feature.

It has a structured cone-like fullness with multiple visible tiers.

To recreate this accurately, build in layers from the body BLO anchor rounds.

Underskirt Layer 1

Using white yarn, attach to FLO left from torso Rnd 16.

  1. Rnd 1: (sc, inc) around evenly to 63 sts
  2. Rnd 2: sc around. (63)
  3. Rnd 3: (8 sc, inc) x7. (70)
  4. Rnd 4: sc around. (70)
  5. Rnd 5: (9 sc, inc) x7. (77)
  6. Rnd 6: sc around. (77)

Add a lace edge in white: (sc, ch 3, skip 1) around.

Main Floral Skirt Panel

Using white or very pale cream, attach to FLO left from torso Rnd 20.

  1. Rnd 1: (2 sc, inc) around evenly to 64 sts
  2. Rnd 2: sc around. (64)
  3. Rnd 3: (7 sc, inc) x8. (72)
  4. Rnd 4: sc around. (72)
  5. Rnd 5: (8 sc, inc) x8. (80)
  6. Rnd 6: sc around. (80)
  7. Rnd 7: (9 sc, inc) x8. (88)
  8. Rnd 8: sc around. (88)

This layer should fall longer than the upper overskirt and show in the center front and lower hem.

Blue Hem Band

Attach blue yarn to lower edge of main floral skirt.

  1. Rnd 1: sc around. (88)
  2. Rnd 2: hdc around. (88)
  3. Rnd 3: working slightly looser, (10 hdc, inc hdc) around to about 96 sts
  4. Rnd 4: hdc around. (96)

Finish with a white lace edge sewn or crocheted separately.

Floral Embroidery on Main Skirt

Use pale blue and blue yarn to embroider vertical bluebell-like clusters across the white panel.

  • Make small green stems with straight stitches.
  • Add tiny blue detached chain petals or French-knot style flowers.
  • Scatter motifs more densely near the center front and around the visible lower panel.

This detail is essential for matching the image.

Overskirt Layer

The overskirt is blue and opens at the front to reveal the floral underskirt.

Back and Side Overskirt

Using blue yarn, ch 61.

  1. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch and across. (60)
  2. Rows 2-5: ch 1, turn, sc across. (60)
  3. Row 6: dec, 56 sc, dec. (58)
  4. Row 7: sc across. (58)
  5. Row 8: dec, 54 sc, dec. (56)
  6. Rows 9-10: sc across. (56)

Shape front opening by tapering the first and last 8 to 10 stitches over the next few rows.

The piece should wrap around the back and sides but remain open at center front.

Sew to waist.

Overskirt Lower Ruffle

Attach blue yarn to overskirt lower edge.

  1. Rnd/Row 1: 2 hdc in each stitch around edge
  2. Rnd/Row 2: hdc across

Then add white lace trim beneath the ruffle.

📌Thank you for reading the article

Front Vertical Ruffle Bands

Make 2 blue strips.

  1. ch 36
  2. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch and across. (35)
  3. Row 2: work 2 hdc in each st across. (70)

Edge one long side with white trim and sew along each front opening edge of the overskirt.

This creates the dramatic cascading front ruffles seen in the image.

Middle Skirt Tier

There is an additional blue tier above the wide lower hem and below the apron level.

Work this on a separate anchor line or sew in place as a half-depth flounce.

  1. Attach blue yarn around upper skirt area where desired.
  2. Rnd 1: 64 sc evenly
  3. Rnd 2: (3 hdc in one st, skip 2, sc in next, skip 2) around for shell effect
  4. Rnd 3: work hdc into each shell or sew lace trim beneath

For a more structured look, substitute plain hdc rows with increases every 6 to 8 stitches.

Lower Full Hem Ruffle

The very bottom of the dress has a deep blue flounce.

It should be fuller than the upper flounces.

  1. Attach blue yarn to lowest skirt edge if not already done.
  2. Rnd 1: 96 hdc
  3. Rnd 2: (7 hdc, inc) around to about 108 sts
  4. Rnd 3-4: hdc around

Sew or crochet a white lace edging to the bottom.

Let the hem curve outward slightly by shaping it with fingers after assembly.

Sleeve Cuffs and Wrist Flounces

The cuffs are very full and layered.

To match the image, add both white and blue details.

  • White base flounce already worked in FLO
  • Add a second white lace strip over the first
  • Add a short blue curved cuff panel at the wrist top if desired

For the blue cuff cap, ch 9, work 8 sc back, then 2 more rows.

Sew near the outer cuff area.

Wings

Make 2 white wings.

Each wing is crocheted in rows to form a tapered feathered leaf shape.

Wing Piece

  1. ch 16
  2. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. (15)
  3. Row 2: ch 1, turn, dec, 11 sc, dec. (13)
  4. Row 3: ch 1, turn, sc across. (13)
  5. Row 4: dec, 9 sc, dec. (11)
  6. Row 5: sc across. (11)
  7. Row 6: dec, 7 sc, dec. (9)
  8. Row 7: sc across. (9)
  9. Row 8: dec, 5 sc, dec. (7)
  10. Row 9: sc across. (7)
  11. Row 10: dec, 3 sc, dec. (5)
  12. Row 11: sc across. (5)
  13. Row 12: dec, sc, dec. (3)
  14. Row 13: sc across. (3)

Do not stuff.

Make a second matching wing.

Edge each wing with sl st, placing 2 or 3 small picot points along the outer edge if desired.

Lightly insert fine wire around the outer edge if you want the wings to stand outward.

Sew both wings to the upper back, angled upward and outward symmetrically.

Hair Cap

Use gray yarn.

  1. Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. Rnd 2: inc x6. (12)
  3. Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x6. (18)
  4. Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x6. (24)
  5. Rnd 5: (3 sc, inc) x6. (30)
  6. Rnd 6: (4 sc, inc) x6. (36)
  7. Rnd 7: (5 sc, inc) x6. (42)
  8. Rnd 8: (6 sc, inc) x6. (48)
  9. Rnd 9: (7 sc, inc) x6. (54)
  10. Rnd 10-15: sc around. (54)

Fasten off with a long tail and sew to the head, leaving front hairline exposed for bangs placement.

Hair Strands

The image shows long, soft, wavy gray hair with a center-framed fringe.

Make multiple strands of different lengths.

Long Side Strands

Make 8 to 10.

  1. ch 26
  2. Starting in 2nd ch from hook: 25 sc back

For a curlier look, work 2 sc in each chain instead.

Sew across the back of the cap in layers.

Bangs

Make 5 to 7 shorter strands.

  1. ch 10 to 14
  2. sc back

Arrange the bangs to split slightly at center and curve to the sides.

This is important for the doll’s face resemblance.

Hat

The hat is wide, soft, blue, and trimmed in white with floral accents.

Hat Crown Top

  1. Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. Rnd 2: inc x6. (12)

  11. Rnd 22: (10 sc, inc) x6. (72)

Fasten off.

Edge the brim with white yarn in crab stitch, sl st, or a tiny picot lace border.

If the brim droops too much, slip a thin wire under the final edge or lightly starch it.

Hat Roses and Side Flower

Make 2 to 3 pale blue roses as described earlier.

Sew one large rose at the front left brim and one smaller accent flower at the side of the hair.

The hat should sit slightly tilted.

Purse

The purse is a small soft blue handbag with white stripe accents and rounded handles.

Sew with a slight upward angle.

Handle

  1. ch 7
  2. sl st back

Sew opposite the spout.

Embroider tiny pink and green flowers on the side.

Optional Decorative Lace Strips

To better match the rich texture of the image, you may add extra narrow white lace trims anywhere the dress feels too plain.

  • Along apron edges
  • Along front bodice seams
  • At overskirt hem
  • At underskirt reveal
  • At sleeve cuffs
  • At hat brim edge

A simple lace strip can be made with ch 20 to 40, then repeating (sc, ch 2, skip 1) back.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Sew the head to the torso securely and make sure the face points slightly forward, not upward.

Attach the arms low enough to preserve the narrow shoulder line.

Sew the wings symmetrically on the upper back.

Arrange the hair before attaching the hat.

Sew the hat slightly tilted and add the roses after final positioning.

Lightly blush the cheeks.

If desired, add a few tiny eyelashes with black thread, but keep them soft and short.

Place the purse on one arm or stitch it lightly to the hand so it hangs naturally.

Styling Tips for a More Accurate Result

  • Keep the head large compared to the torso
  • Use firm stuffing in the head and neck
  • Keep the torso slim so the dress silhouette stays elegant
  • Do not skip the underskirt, because it creates the correct layered look
  • Use lots of trim, especially in white
  • Set the wings high behind the shoulders
  • Keep the hair soft and face-framing
  • Let the hat brim curve gently rather than lying flat

Care Notes

Display the doll away from direct sunlight to protect the yarn colors.

Handle the wings, hat brim, and small accessories gently.

If the skirt loses shape, smooth it by hand and let it rest upright.

Do not soak the doll unless all parts are securely fastened and colorfast.

Dry flat and reshape the skirt, hat, and wings while damp.

Store in a breathable box or cabinet, never in sealed plastic for long periods.

For collector display, support the skirt from underneath with tissue so the tiers keep their volume.
