This cheerful crochet Sulley doll is made with a large turquoise plush body, rounded head, gray curved horns, purple spots, shiny safety eyes, a sweet stitched smile, and striped garden overalls. Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This pattern creates a soft seated garden monster doll with oversized plush proportions. The finished shape has a large round head, short neck, rounded torso, thick arms, long legs, broad feet, and detailed clothing layered over the body.
The body is worked mostly in continuous rounds. The overalls are worked separately with cotton yarn so the stripes look crisp against the fuzzy turquoise body. Smaller details are made with sport or DK cotton to keep the face, flowers, buttons, vegetables, sandals, and accessories neat.
- Finished size: about 14 inches tall when seated, or 17 inches from horns to toes if measured flat.
- Skill level: confident beginner to intermediate.
- Main technique: amigurumi in continuous spiral rounds.
- Gauge: 8 sc x 8 rounds = 2 inches with super bulky plush yarn and 5 mm hook.
- Construction: head, body, limbs, horns, clothing, sandals, flower, bag, and props are made separately and sewn together.

Important Notes Before Starting
Use tight tension for every plush part. Chenille yarn can stretch, so stuff the pieces firmly but not so much that the stitches open. The head should be round and full, while the body should be slightly narrower so the overalls fit snugly.
Place the eyes and nose before the head is fully closed. The doll in the image has a friendly face with eyes set wide apart, a small black nose in the center, and a curved smile that rises gently toward the doll’s right cheek.
- Work plush pieces in continuous rounds unless the pattern says otherwise.
- Use a stitch marker at the first stitch of each round.
- When sewing pieces, use long yarn tails and pin everything first.
- For the exact garden look, keep the overalls slightly loose around the belly and short above the knees.
Head
Use turquoise plush yarn and 5 mm hook. The head is a large sphere, wider than the body, with the face placed slightly below the horizontal center line.

- Sew the head to the body using the long body tail. Go around the neck opening twice for strength.
- Sew the legs to the lower front body, placing them about 5 stitches apart.
- Sew the feet to the ends of the legs with toes facing forward.
- Fit the overalls onto the body and sew the back seam closed if needed.
- Sew the arms to the sides of the body at shoulder height, just under the head.
- Attach the horns to the top sides of the head, curving inward and upward.
- Attach the ears slightly below and behind the horns.
- Sew the purple spots onto the head and arms.
- Add sandals to the feet and sew toe nails above each strap.
- Attach the sunflower headpiece beside the right horn.
- Add the crossbody bag and tack the strap in place.
- Sew tiny vegetables and flowers to the overalls and bag.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Check the doll from the front before tying final knots. The eyes should look level, the nose should be centered, and the smile should curve gently upward. Adjust the sunflower so it leans forward slightly instead of lying flat.
Brush the plush yarn lightly with your fingers only. Do not use a hard brush, because chenille fibers can loosen. Shape the head, arms, feet, and belly by gently pressing the stuffing into place.
- Head angle: centered, slightly tilted forward for a friendly look.
- Arm angle: arms hang down beside the overalls, with paws near the hip line.
- Leg angle: legs sit forward from the body so the doll can rest on a shelf.
- Bag placement: strap crosses from left shoulder to right hip.
- Flower placement: sunflower sits high near one horn.
Care Notes
Spot clean only with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not machine wash if you used safety eyes, buttons, or glued details. Let the doll air dry completely before storing.
- Keep away from high heat and direct sunlight for long periods.
- Do not wring or twist the plush body.
- Re-shape the head and limbs while damp if needed.
- Check sewn buttons and small appliques regularly.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- The head is round, full, and larger than the body.
- Both gray horns are even and curve inward.
- The black eyes are wide and glossy with a centered nose.
- The stitched smile is smooth and slightly curved.
- Purple spots are sewn to the head and arms.
- The striped overalls have short legs, front bib, straps, and buttons.
- The carrot, mushroom, sprouts, and bag flowers are securely attached.
- The sandals have green soles, brown straps, gray toe nails, and leaf decorations.
- The sunflower headpiece is placed beside the horn.
- The optional straw hat, flower pot, and trowel match the garden theme.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Store the finished doll in a clean, dry place. If displaying it near a window, rotate it occasionally so one side does not fade faster than the other. Keep the small props together in a soft box when not on display.
For dust, pat the surface with a clean dry cloth. For stains, dab gently with cool water and a tiny amount of mild soap. Avoid soaking the overalls because cotton stripes may stretch if they become too wet.
After cleaning, lay the doll flat on a towel. Support the horns, sunflower, and sandals so they keep their shape while drying. When fully dry, fluff the plush body gently with your fingers and recheck all sewn decorations.
