Crochet Tutorial: Pastel Garden Siamese Cat – Free Crochet Pattern

This pastel garden Siamese cat is a sweet amigurumi doll with a cream body, dark chocolate ears, muzzle, paws, and tail, large blue safety eyes, a layered mint-and-pink garden dress, striped shoes, tiny flower decorations, and a small woven-style basket. The design also includes charming garden accessories inspired by the photo: a round sun hat, a pastel watering can, and a tiny flower pot.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Pattern Overview

This pattern creates a seated Siamese cat doll with a round head, short cream limbs, chocolate color-point details, a flared pastel dress, and miniature garden props. The finished doll is designed to look soft, balanced, and decorative, with a gentle spring garden style.

The cat is worked mostly in continuous rounds. The dress is crocheted directly around the body so it sits naturally at the shoulders, waist, and skirt line. The flowers are small layered appliqués, and the accessories are scaled to match the cat without overpowering the main doll.

Finished Size

  • Main cat doll: about 11.5 inches tall from shoes to top of ears when using the listed yarn and hook.
  • Head width: about 4.25 inches across.
  • Dress width: about 6 inches across the widest skirt edge.
  • Basket: about 2 inches wide.
  • Sun hat: about 4 inches wide.
  • Watering can: about 2.5 inches long including spout.
  • Flower pot: about 1.25 inches tall.

Skill Level

Confident beginner to intermediate. The main stitches are simple, but the project includes shaping, color changes, layered clothing, small appliqués, and detailed assembly. Read each section before starting so the color-point placement stays symmetrical.

Gauge and Crochet Texture

Using a 2.25 mm hook with sport cotton, 8 sc across and 8 rounds high should measure about 1 inch. The finished fabric should be firm enough that stuffing does not show through, but not so tight that the head becomes stiff and angular.

The doll in the image has a neat, compact amigurumi texture. Keep your stitches even and slightly tight. The dress should be a little softer than the body, so do not over-tighten the pastel skirt rounds.

Important Construction Notes

  • Work in continuous rounds unless the pattern says to join.
  • Use a stitch marker at the first stitch of every round.
  • Stuff the head firmly and evenly to keep the round cat face smooth.
  • Stuff arms and legs lightly so they remain soft and doll-like.
  • The dark muzzle patch is crocheted separately and sewn to the face after the eyes are placed.
  • The ears are slightly rounded triangles and are sewn at an outward angle.
  • The dress is worked from the upper body downward, with raised mint rows and a pink ruffled hem.

Dark Siamese Face Point

Use Color B. This oval patch sits in the center of the face and surrounds the nose and mouth. It should be sewn between the eyes, starting just below eye level and ending near the bottom curve of the face.

  1. R1: Ch 7. Starting in the second ch from hook, sc 5, 3 sc in last ch. Continue on the other side of the chain, sc 4, inc in last st. 14 sts.

FO with a long tail. Place the patch vertically on the face. The top edge should sit between the eyes, and the bottom edge should stop above R23 of the head. Sew around the edge using small neat stitches.

Muzzle Bump

Use Color B. This small rounded muzzle gives the face the raised shape visible in the image.

  1. R1: 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
  2. R2: inc in each st around. 12 sts.
  3. R3: sc 1, inc, repeat 6 times. 18 sts.
  4. R4 to R5: sc around. 18 sts.
  5. R6: sc 1, dec, repeat 6 times. 12 sts.

Stuff lightly. FO with a long tail. Sew the muzzle bump centered on the dark face patch, with the top of the bump just below the safety nose position.

Nose and Mouth

  • Place the dark brown safety nose or embroider a rounded triangle on the upper center of the muzzle bump.
  • Use dark brown embroidery thread to stitch one straight vertical line down from the nose.
  • From the bottom of that line, stitch two small curved mouth lines, one to the left and one to the right.
  • Keep the mouth small and sweet, not wide.

Eyebrows and Cheeks

The cat in the image has soft curved brows and gentle pink cheeks. Use thin dark brown thread for the brows and pink thread for blush.

  • Embroider one curved brow above each eye between R12 and R13.
  • Each brow should be about 5 stitches long and curve slightly downward toward the center.
  • Add 3 short blush stitches on each cheek, placed outside the eyes around R18.
  • Keep the blush very light so it does not overpower the Siamese face point.

Ears

Make 2. Start with Color B for the dark outer ear. The ears are short, rounded triangles and sit at the upper left and right sides of the head.

  1. R1: 4 sc in MR. 4 sts.

Flatten each ear without stuffing. FO with a long tail. Pin the ears between R6 and R13 of the head, angled outward. The inside lower corner should sit slightly closer to the eyes than the outside corner. Sew firmly along the flattened base.

Body

Use Color A. The body is pear-shaped, narrow at the neck and wider at the belly so the pastel dress can flare naturally over it.

  1. R1: 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
  2. R2: inc in each st around. 12 sts.
  3. R3: sc 1, inc, repeat 6 times. 18 sts.
  4. R4: sc 2, inc, repeat 6 times. 24 sts.
  5. R5: sc 3, inc, repeat 6 times. 30 sts.
  6. R6: sc 4, inc, repeat 6 times. 36 sts.
  7. R7 to R12: sc around. 36 sts.
  8. R13: sc 10, dec, repeat 3 times. 33 sts.
  9. R14: sc around. 33 sts.

  13. R18: sc around. 24 sts.
  14. R19: sc 2, dec, repeat 6 times. 18 sts.
  15. R20: sc around. 18 sts.

Stuff the body firmly at the base and moderately at the top. FO with a long tail. Sew the head to the body, aligning the face with the front center of the body. Use several rounds of stitching around the neck so the head does not wobble.

Legs

Make 2 legs. Start with Color B for the dark lower paw, then change to Color A for the cream upper leg. The legs should be short and straight under the dress.

  1. R1 with Color B: 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
  2. R2: inc in each st around. 12 sts.
  3. R3: sc 1, inc, repeat 6 times. 18 sts.
  4. R4 to R6: sc around. 18 sts.
  5. R7: sc 1, dec, repeat 6 times. 12 sts.
  6. Change to Color A.
  7. R8 to R15: sc around. 12 sts for 8 rounds.

Stuff the paw firmly and the upper leg lightly. Flatten the top opening. Sc through both layers with 6 sc to close. FO with a long tail. Sew the legs under the body between R3 and R7 of the body, spaced about 5 stitches apart.

Arms

Make 2 arms. Start with Color B for the dark paw tip, then change to Color A. The arms hang down along the dress sides, with the dark paws visible near the skirt.

  1. R1 with Color B: 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
  2. R2: sc 1, inc, repeat 3 times. 9 sts.
  3. R3 to R5: sc around. 9 sts.
  4. Change to Color A.
  5. R6 to R18: sc around. 9 sts for 13 rounds.

Stuff the paw tip lightly. Leave the upper arm mostly unstuffed so it rests softly at the side. Flatten the top and sc through both layers with 4 sc. FO with a long tail.

Sew the arms to the body at R18 of the body, just below the head join. Angle them downward so the paws rest beside the dress at about waist level.

Tail

Use Color B. The tail is dark chocolate, medium length, and slightly curved behind the dress, visible on the right side in the photo.

  1. R1: 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
  2. R2: sc 1, inc, repeat 3 times. 9 sts.
  3. R3 to R18: sc around. 9 sts for 16 rounds.

Stuff lightly as you go, but do not overstuff. Bend the tail slightly by shaping it with your fingers. FO with a long tail. Sew to the back lower body between R6 and R9, angled so the tail peeks out from one side of the skirt.

Pastel Garden Dress Bodice

The dress is crocheted around the body after the body is stuffed and before the arms are sewn, or carefully added afterward if preferred. Use Color C for the soft pink base.

Hold the doll upside down with the neck facing you. Join Color C around the body at R17, where the upper bodice should begin. Work around the body stitches as evenly as possible.

  1. R1 with Color C: Join yarn at the back center. Ch 1, work 30 sc evenly around the upper body. Sl st to first sc. 30 sts.
  2. R2: Ch 1, sc around. Sl st to first sc. 30 sts.

  6. R4: Ch 1, sc around. Sl st to join. 36 sts.
  7. Change to Color D.
  8. R5: Ch 1, BLO sc around. Sl st to join. 36 sts.

This creates the fitted upper dress with a mint band near the shoulders. Keep the stitches snug so the bodice hugs the cat body without sliding.

Dress Waist and Decorative Mint Band

  1. R6 with Color C: Ch 1, sc 5, inc, repeat 6 times. Sl st to join. 42 sts.
  2. R7 with Color C: Ch 1, sc around. Sl st to join. 42 sts.

Raised Puff Flowers on Skirt

The skirt in the image has small raised pastel details across the lower band. These can be made as tiny puff stitches worked directly on the skirt.

Use Color C and Color D alternately. Insert the hook around selected stitches on R15 and R16, spacing each puff about 5 stitches apart.

  • Join yarn to a skirt stitch.
  • Ch 2.
  • Yarn over, insert hook into the same stitch space, pull up a loop, repeat 3 times.
  • Yarn over and pull through all loops.
  • Ch 1 to lock the puff.

  4. R3: Ch 1, sc 1, hdc 1, dc 1, hdc 1, sc 1, repeat around as evenly as possible. Sl st to join.

FO and weave in the ends. The ruffle should sit just above the cat’s knees and shoes, matching the layered look in the image.

Dress Shoulder Trim

Use Color D for the mint shoulder edging. Join yarn at the back of the dress neckline.

  1. R1: Ch 1, work 30 sc evenly around the top edge of the dress bodice. Sl st to join.

Detailed Sewing Placement

Sew the head to the body with the face centered over the front of the dress. The bottom of the head should touch the top of the dress bodice without leaving a visible gap. Use cream yarn and sew around the neck two full times for strength.

Place the ears symmetrically. The lower inside corner of each ear should sit around R11 of the head, while the top point sits around R5. Angle the ears out slightly to create the kitten-like shape seen in the image.

The arms should be sewn just below the neck, slightly forward on the body sides. This makes them visible from the front and allows the paws to rest naturally beside the skirt.

The legs are sewn under the body so the doll appears seated. Position them vertically and leave about 5 stitches of space between them. The shoes should face forward and remain visible below the pink ruffle.

Facial Expression Tips

The expression depends on careful placement. The blue eyes should be wide and slightly glossy. The brows should be gentle arcs, not sharp lines. The small mouth should sit low on the muzzle bump, giving the cat a soft handmade character.

  • Place the nose before embroidering the mouth.
  • Use pins to test the muzzle position before sewing.
  • Keep both eyes level with each other.
  • Do not make the brows too thick.
  • Add blush after all face sewing is complete.

Flower Placement on the Head

Place the pink flower near one ear and the yellow flower near the other ear. Each flower should overlap the lower outer edge of the ear slightly, with mint leaves tucked behind. Sew through the flower center first, then secure each petal with a tiny stitch if needed.

The flowers should look like small garden clips. Do not place them too high on the ears because they should frame the face rather than cover the ear shape.

How to Make the Dress Look Like the Photo

  • Keep the bodice fitted and smooth.
  • Use mint green for visible horizontal bands.
  • Use pastel pink for the soft ruffle at the bottom.
  • Add raised puff details around the skirt.
  • Make the skirt wider than the body but not too long.
  • Let the pink ruffle peek below the mint section.

After finishing the dress, gently pull the skirt outward with your fingers. This helps the dress sit in a soft bell shape. Steam blocking is not necessary, but you may lightly shape the ruffle by hand.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Check that all parts are secure before trimming yarn tails. Sew through each limb several times because small dolls are often handled by the arms, shoes, and accessories.

  • Use cream yarn to reinforce the head and neck join.
  • Use dark brown yarn to secure the muzzle and tail.
  • Use matching pastel yarn for dress details.
  • Hide all yarn tails inside the body or dress layers.
  • Brush the dress lightly with your fingers to smooth the ruffle.

Finish the face last. Add the brows, mouth line, cheeks, and any extra tiny details after the head is fully attached. This helps you judge the final angle and expression correctly.

Care Notes

This amigurumi cat is best used as a decorative handmade doll. If safety eyes, a safety nose, or a metal charm are used, the finished item is not suitable for children under 3 years old.

  • Spot clean with cool water and mild soap.
  • Do not machine wash if the doll has charms or safety parts.
  • Do not tumble dry.
  • Reshape the dress and accessories while damp if needed.
  • Let the doll air dry completely before storing.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The head is round and firmly stuffed.
  • The eyes are even and placed about 10 stitches apart.
  • The dark face point is centered between the eyes.
  • The muzzle bump is lightly stuffed and sewn smoothly.
  • The ears are angled outward evenly.
  • The dress has clear pink and mint pastel bands.
  • The bottom ruffle is visible below the skirt.
  • The shoes face forward and sit evenly.
  • The basket handle is firmly attached.
  • The watering can handle and spout are secure.
  • The flowers are sewn flat and balanced.
  • All yarn tails are hidden.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

To preserve the doll’s shape, store it upright or lying flat in a dry place. Avoid placing heavy items on top of the head, ears, basket, or watering can, as small crocheted details can flatten over time.

If dust collects on the doll, use a soft dry brush or lint roller with very gentle pressure. For small stains, dab the area with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not rub hard, especially on the face, dress puffs, flowers, and embroidered cheeks.

Keep the doll away from strong sunlight for long periods. Pastel yarn can fade if displayed in direct sun every day. If the dress ruffle bends, reshape it gently with your fingers and let it rest flat overnight.

For long-term storage, wrap the doll loosely in acid-free tissue or clean cotton fabric. Store the tiny accessories beside the doll in a small cloth bag so the basket, sun hat, watering can, and flower pot do not get lost.
