Pattern Overview

This pattern is written in US crochet terms and is designed as a detailed amigurumi project. The finished doll has a rounded head, short plush body, small arms, sturdy legs, layered clothing, and several miniature garden accessories. The proportions are intentionally cute: the head is larger than the body, the limbs are short and rounded, and the accessories are small but clearly visible.

The main duck is worked tightly in continuous spiral rounds. The clothing pieces are crocheted directly onto the body where possible, while the hood, straps, bag, shoes, strawberries, and garden accessories are made separately and sewn on. Use a stitch marker at the beginning of every round to keep the shaping neat.

Finished Size

  • Finished doll height: about 9.5 inches tall when made with medium weight yarn and a 2.75 mm hook.
  • Head width: about 5 inches across after stuffing.
  • Body height from neck to feet: about 5 inches.
  • Crossbody bag: about 1.5 inches wide.
  • Watering can: about 1.75 inches long from handle to spout.
  • Flowerpot: about 1.25 inches tall.

Materials

  • Medium weight cotton or cotton blend yarn in white, bright green, blue, cream, yellow, orange, red, dark brown, light brown, black, pale pink, beige, and small amounts of leafy green.
  • 2.75 mm crochet hook for the amigurumi body and firm accessories.
  • 2.25 mm crochet hook for small details such as flowers, bee wings, leaves, and strawberry tops.
  • 10 mm black safety eyes for the duck face.
  • 6 mm black safety eyes or small black beads for frog hood eyes, or embroider them if preferred.

  • Two small tan buttons for the overall straps.
  • Pink blush powder or pink yarn for cheeks.
  • Black embroidery thread for bee stripes and tiny eye details.

Gauge and Crochet Style

Gauge is not extremely strict, but tight stitches are important. For a clean amigurumi finish, your stuffing should not show through the fabric. A good gauge is about 6 sc and 6 rounds per inch using medium cotton yarn and a 2.75 mm hook.

Use continuous spiral rounds unless the pattern says to join. Stuff gradually and firmly, but do not overstuff the clothing areas. The head should be round and smooth, the body should be slightly oval, and the legs should be firm enough to support the doll when placed flat.

Color Plan

  • Duck face and hands: white.
  • Beak: golden yellow.
  • Hood: bright green.
  • Frog hood eyes: green outer circles with white centers and black pupils.
  • Sweater: cream base with blue stripes.
  • Overalls: denim blue.

Face Opening Cut-In Shape

Lay the hood over the head and mark a large oval opening on the front. The lower edge should sit just under the beak, and the top should arch above the eyes. To create the opening, fold the front portion inward and sew it securely to the inside of the hood, leaving the white face exposed.

If you prefer a crocheted opening instead of folding, stop the main hood after R13 and work rows back and forth across the back 44 stitches for 9 rows, leaving the front 22 stitches open. Then crochet one round of green sc around the face opening.

Thick Green Face Border

  1. Join bright green yarn at the lower left side of the face opening.
  2. Work 72 sc evenly around the oval opening.
  3. Round 2: sc around again, placing inc at both lower corners and both upper corners if the edge pulls tight.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Check the face before securing every piece permanently. The eyes should be level, the beak should sit centered and slightly raised, and the cheeks should be soft and round. The green hood border should frame the white face like a smooth oval.

Use small hidden stitches to secure the hood, strawberries, sprout, straps, and bag. Add tiny white seed stitches to the strawberries only after they are attached, so you can place the seeds where they are most visible.

For the best expression, do not pull the safety eyes too deeply into the head. The duck should look gentle and cheerful. Add a few small pink stitches or soft blush to the cheeks for the sweet handmade look shown in the image.

Care Notes

  • Spot clean the doll with a damp cloth and mild soap.
  • Do not soak the doll if safety eyes, buttons, blush, or wire are used.
  • Let the doll air dry completely before storing.
  • Keep the small watering can, flowerpot, strawberries, and bee decorations away from very young children if they are sewn with small parts.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The white face is centered inside the green hood.
  • The frog eyes sit evenly on top of the hood.
  • The two red strawberries are attached on the upper right side.
  • The sprout is sewn at the top center.
  • The beak is oval, lightly stuffed, and centered between the eyes.
  • The blue overalls have a front bib, straps, buttons, and small white flowers.
  • The orange bag crosses the body diagonally and includes a sunflower.
  • The yellow shoes have cream trim and tiny bee decorations.
  • The watering can and flowerpot are shaped firmly and neat enough for display.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Store the finished duck in a dry place away from direct sunlight to protect the bright green hood, red strawberries, yellow shoes, and orange bag from fading. If dust gathers on the stitches, use a soft brush and clean gently in the direction of the crochet texture.

For long-term display, support the head and body so the neck seam does not stretch. Keep the crossbody strap flat when storing, and avoid pressing heavy objects onto the frog eyes, sprout, strawberries, watering can, or flowerpot.

If the doll becomes misshapen, gently massage the stuffing back into place with your hands. Do not pull hard on sewn details. Small parts such as buttons, bees, leaves, and the sunflower can be reinforced later with matching yarn if they loosen over time.
