Crochet Tutorial: Rose Arch Bunny Fairy Garden – Free Crochet Pattern

This Rose Arch Bunny Fairy Garden is a detailed crochet diorama with a round green meadow base, cream stone path, white rose-covered arch, cozy round cottage, bunny family, tulips, carrot patch, wheelbarrow of flowers, watering can, birds, butterflies, shrubs, rocks, and tiny garden details. The finished scene is soft, colorful, and designed as a decorative crochet display full of spring fairy-garden charm.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Finished Size

  • Meadow base: about 18 in / 46 cm wide and 20 in / 51 cm long.
  • Rose arch: about 11 in / 28 cm tall and 12 in / 30 cm wide.
  • Cottage: about 7 in / 18 cm tall including roof.
  • Large bunny girl: about 6.5 in / 16.5 cm tall.
  • Gardener bunny: about 6.5 in / 16.5 cm tall including hat.
  • Small bunny: about 4 in / 10 cm tall.

Skill Level

Intermediate to advanced beginner. This project uses simple amigurumi shaping, small appliqué pieces, surface stitching, and careful sewing. Most parts are made with single crochet, but the final look depends on neat placement and patient assembly.

Materials

  • DK or light worsted yarn in grass green, dark green, cream, white, beige, tan, brown, dark brown, pink, blush pink, coral, red rose, ivory, yellow, orange, blue, gray, pale lavender, and pale sky blue.
  • 2.5 mm crochet hook for amigurumi pieces.
  • 3.0 mm crochet hook for meadow base, arch cover, and larger flat pieces.
  • Polyester fiberfill.
  • 8 mm black safety eyes for large bunnies.
  • 6 mm black safety eyes for small bunny and birds, or black embroidery thread.
  • Yarn needle.
  • Stitch markers.
  • Thin craft wire or pipe cleaners for the arch and flower stems.
  • Cardboard or plastic canvas for the cottage base, wheelbarrow base, carrot bed, and watering can stability.
  • Fabric scrap for the bunny girl dress skirt, or crochet the skirt using the optional instructions below.
  • Embroidery thread in black, brown, pink, and green.

US Crochet Abbreviations

  • MR: magic ring
  • ch: chain
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • sc: single crochet
  • hdc: half double crochet
  • dc: double crochet
  • tr: treble crochet
  • inc: 2 sc in the same stitch
  • dec: invisible single crochet decrease
  • BLO: back loop only
  • FLO: front loop only
  • st: stitch
  • rnd: round
  • FO: fasten off

Gauge

With a 2.5 mm hook, 6 sc and 6 rounds should measure about 1 in / 2.5 cm when worked firmly in the round. Exact gauge is not critical, but all pieces should be crocheted tightly so stuffing does not show.

General Notes

  • Work amigurumi pieces in continuous rounds unless the pattern says otherwise.
  • Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of every round.
  • Stuff heads and bodies firmly, but do not overstuff ears, arms, leaves, or flowers.
  • For a clean fairy-garden display, weave in all ends carefully and hide knots inside the pieces.
  • The image shows a soft handmade style, so slight variation in flower placement makes the finished garden look natural.

For a thicker display base, cut an oval piece of cardboard or plastic canvas slightly smaller than the base. Sew or glue it to the underside, then cover the underside with felt if desired.

Grass Texture Lines

Use dark green yarn and surface crochet. Make 8 to 10 short curved lines on each side of the path area. Each line should be 6 to 14 surface slip stitches long. Keep the lines irregular so the grass looks natural.

The path begins at the front edge, winds through the middle, passes between the bunny figures, and continues under the rose arch toward the cottage door. Make a mix of oval, round, and rounded-rectangle stones.

Round Stones

Make 10 in cream, 6 in beige, and 4 in light gray.

Arrange the stones in a loose S-curve. Larger rectangles should sit near the front, smaller ovals near the cottage. Sew each stone flat to the green base, leaving tiny green gaps between stones.

White Rose Arch

  11. Check all faces. Add noses, smiles, cheeks, and tiny details only after the pieces are fully sewn in place.

Care Notes

Spot clean only with cool water and mild soap. Do not machine wash because the project contains many sewn details, stuffed shapes, and possible wire supports. Press gently with a towel and let the garden air dry flat.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • All arch posts are firmly sewn to the base.
  • The cottage sits straight behind the arch.
  • The path curves naturally from the front edge to the cottage door.
  • All bunnies have secure eyes, embroidered noses, and neat smiles.
  • Roses and leaves cover the arch evenly.
  • Small pieces such as carrots, birds, butterflies, rocks, and flowers are stitched down securely.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Keep the crochet garden away from direct sunlight for long periods, especially if using pink, green, and cream yarns that may fade. Store it in a dry place and cover it loosely with tissue paper when not displayed.

To remove dust, use a soft makeup brush or a cool hair dryer on the lowest setting. Avoid pulling on roses, tulips, or butterflies. If a small piece loosens, reattach it with matching yarn and several hidden stitches.

For long-term display, place the finished fairy garden on a shelf or inside a clear display box. This protects the tiny flowers, arch, path stones, and bunny details while keeping the handmade texture visible.
