This Bunny Garden Tree Swing crochet scene features a tall textured tree with leafy green canopy, a curved branch holding a wooden swing, two white bunny friends, a pink dress, a garden bench with a tiny open book, flowers, rocks, leafy plants, soft shrubs, a basket of yarn balls, and a rectangular grass display mat.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Finished Size
- Grass base: about 15 in wide x 11 in deep.
- Main tree: about 9.5 in tall and 3.5 in wide.
- Tree branch span: about 8 in from trunk to right tip.
- Swing bunny: about 4 in tall including ears.

Skill Level
Intermediate amigurumi. The project uses continuous rounds, firm stuffing, shaping, surface crochet, bobble clusters, small sewing, and display assembly. A confident beginner can complete it by working slowly and checking stitch counts after every round.
Materials
- Worsted weight cotton or cotton blend yarn in grass green, light green, dark green, medium brown, dark brown, white, pink, blush pink, cream, yellow, orange, gray, and black.
- 3.0 mm crochet hook for amigurumi pieces.
- 3.5 mm crochet hook for the grass mat.
- Polyester fiberfill.
- Two 6 mm black safety eyes for each bunny, or black embroidery thread.
- Pink embroidery thread for cheeks, inner ears, and tiny flower centers.
- White cotton cord or tightly twisted white yarn for swing ropes.
- Stitch markers, yarn needle, pins, scissors.
- Optional: 18 gauge craft wire for the long tree branch and swing support.
- Optional: cardboard or plastic canvas insert for the grass base and bench.
US Crochet Abbreviations
- MR: magic ring.
- ch: chain.
- sl st: slip stitch.
- sc: single crochet.
- hdc: half double crochet.
- dc: double crochet.
- tr: treble crochet.
- inc: 2 sc in the same stitch.
- dec: invisible single crochet decrease.
- BLO: back loop only.
- FLO: front loop only.
- bobble: yarn over, insert hook, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops; repeat 4 times in same stitch, yarn over and pull through all loops.
- st/sts: stitch/stitches.
- R: round or row.
Important Gauge and Construction Notes
Use tight amigurumi tension so the stuffing does not show. The tree trunk should stand firmly, so stuff it more densely than the bunnies. The canopy in the photo looks plush, bumpy, and cloud-like, so the leaves are made from separate bobble clusters sewn around the top rim and along the branch.
The garden is built on a rectangular grass base. All plants, rocks, basket, bench, tree, and bunnies are sewn onto the base. For a display piece, you may insert plastic canvas inside the base before closing the edge. This keeps the scene flat like the photo.
The long branch angles upward from the right side of the trunk, then curves slightly downward at the tip. Wire is optional, but it helps the branch hold the hanging swing. If making this for a small child, skip wire and use extra firm stuffing instead.
Grass Display Base
Base Panel
With grass green and 3.5 mm hook, make a rectangle with visible rows like the flat lawn in the image.
- Ch 51.
- R1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. Turn. 50 sc.
- R2: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Turn. 50 sc.
- R3: Ch 1, BLO sc in each st across. Turn. 50 sc.
- R4-R42: Repeat R2 and R3, alternating normal sc rows and BLO sc rows. 50 sc each row.
- R43: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Do not fasten off.
Base Border
- Ch 1, rotate the panel.
- Work 42 sc evenly down the side edge.
- Work 50 sc across the foundation chain edge.
- Work 42 sc evenly up the other side edge.
- Work 50 sc across the top edge.
- Join with sl st to first border sc. 184 sc.
- R2: Ch 1, sc in each st around, placing 3 sc in each corner stitch. Join with sl st.
- Fasten off and weave in ends.
Optional firm base: Make a second identical rectangle without the textured BLO rows. Place plastic canvas or cardboard between the two rectangles. Sc both pieces together around the edge with grass green. This gives the finished garden a clean rectangular display shape.

- Add two short dark brown vertical cords under the knot to mimic the split bark in the photo.
Large Curved Branch
The branch begins on the right side of the trunk, angles upward, and stretches across the swing area. It is thick near the trunk and narrower near the tip.

Branch Bark Texture
- With dark brown, surface sl st in 4 long lines along the branch.
- Add 2 short dark lines around the upward branch stub.
- Sew the thick end of the branch to the trunk at R22-R28.
- Use many stitches through both layers so the branch holds the swing.
- If needed, anchor the branch underside to the grass base with a hidden brown support post behind the swing.
Tree Leaf Canopy
The leafy top is made of many rounded bobble clusters in mixed greens. Use light green, medium green, and dark green. Place darker clusters in shadow areas and lighter clusters along the top and outer edges.

- Sew 6 small puffs along the branch, especially above the swing ropes.
- Sew 4 small puffs around the branch tip.
After sewing, gently squeeze the leaf puffs together. The finished canopy should look uneven, soft, and rounded, not perfectly symmetrical. This gives the tree the same handmade woodland texture as the photo.
Tree Stump Shrub Behind Swing
A small brown stump with green leaves sits behind the swing. It adds depth and fills the middle garden area.

- Add a few hidden stitches through the rope and branch so the swing does not slide.
Swing Bunny

- Sew the branch to the trunk at a rising angle. Add hidden stitches from the underside of the branch into the canopy for support.
- Sew leaf puffs over the top of the trunk and along the branch until all seams are hidden.
- Tie the swing ropes over the branch and secure them with several invisible stitches.
- Sew the swing bunny to the swing seat through the bottom of the dress and feet.
- Sew the bench to the right side of the base, then sew the small bunny onto the bench.
- Sew the open book to the small bunny’s hands.
- Sew the basket, shrubs, rocks, flowers, and leaf plants into place.
- For both bunny faces, use black thread for a tiny nose and mouth. Use blush pink for small cheek stitches.
- Check that both bunnies face forward and that the swing hangs straight.
Care Notes
Keep the finished Bunny Garden Tree Swing as a decorative crochet display. Because it includes small flowers, ropes, and optional wire, it is best for gentle display rather than rough play. If gifting to a child, remove wire, secure every piece strongly, and use embroidered eyes instead of safety eyes.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- The tree stands straight and is sewn securely to the base.
- The branch is firm enough to support the swing.
- The swing seat hangs level.
- The pink dress ruffle is visible under the bunny.
- The reading bunny holds the open book at the front.
- The rocks, flowers, shrubs, and basket are arranged like a full garden scene.
- All yarn tails are hidden and trimmed.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Dust the display gently with a soft brush. Do not machine wash because the tree, swing ropes, and small sewn details may shift. For small stains, dab with a damp cloth and mild soap, then let the piece air dry completely in a shaded place.
Store the garden scene in a dry area away from direct sunlight. If the tree canopy becomes flattened, reshape the leaf puffs with your fingers. Keep the swing ropes straight by hanging the swing seat evenly before storing or displaying.
