Create a cheerful amigurumi garden scene featuring a round sunflower seed shop, two tiny hamster gardeners, a petal-covered sunflower roof, seed packets, a hanging shop sign, tall sunflowers, raised soil beds, pots, stepping stones, a shovel, a wheelbarrow, butterflies, and a small garden fence. This pattern is written in US crochet terms and is designed as a detailed display piece with many small decorative parts.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Notes
This project is worked mostly in continuous rounds for the amigurumi pieces and in rows for the flat garden base, roof petals, leaves, signs, and accessories. Use a stitch marker at the beginning of every round. Stuff firmly enough to keep the shop and hamsters upright, but do not overstuff small pieces.
The finished display measures about 13 inches wide, 13 inches deep, and 10 inches tall when made with sport weight cotton yarn and a 2.25 mm crochet hook. The seed shop is about 5 inches tall without the stem, and each hamster is about 2.75 inches tall.
Materials
- Sport weight cotton yarn in grass green, cream, tan, golden yellow, sunflower yellow, dark brown, medium brown, beige, light pink, gray, terra-cotta, black, white, and leaf green.
- 2.25 mm crochet hook for amigurumi pieces.
- 2.75 mm crochet hook for the base mat if you want a slightly softer garden square.
- 6 mm black safety eyes for each hamster, 4 total.
- Fiberfill stuffing.
- Yarn needle.
- Stitch markers.
- Small amount of cardboard or plastic canvas for stabilizing the shop base and garden base.
- Thin floral wire or pipe cleaners for sunflower stems, fence posts, tool handles, and the hanging sign.
- Embroidery thread in black and brown for lettering and facial details.
- Optional: fabric glue for tiny seed packets and signs.
Abbreviations
- MR: magic ring
- ch: chain
- sl st: slip stitch
- sc: single crochet
- hdc: half double crochet
- dc: double crochet
- tr: treble crochet
- inc: increase, 2 sc in the same stitch
- dec: invisible decrease over 2 stitches
- BLO: back loop only
- FLO: front loop only
- st or sts: stitch or stitches
- FO: fasten off
- R: round or row
- rep: repeat
Gauge
With the 2.25 mm hook, 8 sc and 8 rounds should measure about 1 inch. Exact gauge is less important than firm, even fabric. If stuffing shows through, go down a hook size. If the pieces feel too stiff to shape, go up slightly.
Color Placement Guide
- Garden base: bright grass green rectangle with raised edges.
- Shop body: cream cylinder with tan lower band and brown roof.
- Roof petals: large golden yellow petals hanging downward around the top.
- Roof cap and stem: leaf green.
- Hamsters: beige bodies, cream bellies and muzzles, pink ears and paws.
- Sunflowers: dark brown centers, yellow petals, green stems and leaves.
- Accessories: gray stones and tools, terra-cotta pots, brown soil beds, beige seed sacks.
Garden Base
The base is a firm square mat with a slightly raised border, matching the green garden platform shown in the image. Use the 2.75 mm hook for this section if you want a flatter display mat.

- Border R3: Ch 1, sc in each st around, placing 3 sc in the center stitch of each corner group. Join and FO. 252 sc.
Raised Front Edge
To create the thick crochet platform look, attach grass green to any corner of the base. Work one round of surface slip stitches just inside the outer border. Keep the tension relaxed so the base stays flat.
- Insert the hook through the fabric from front to back.
- Pull up a loop of green yarn.
- Surface sl st along the inner edge of the border, placing one stitch into each row or stitch space.
- FO and hide the tails under the base.

To make each petal slightly cupped, weave the starting and ending tails to the back center of the petal and pull gently before knotting. Do not pull too tightly; the petal should only curl softly.
Attach Roof Petals
- Place the 8 petals evenly around the top of the brown roof.
- The wide end of each petal should sit near the roof center.
- The pointed end should hang downward toward the roof rim.
- Sew only the top 4 stitches of each petal to the roof, leaving the rest free.
- Overlap the petals slightly so they resemble a sunflower roof.

- Place the wheelbarrow near the front right corner.
- Place the shovel upright between the hamsters and the stepping stones.
- Place the pots to the right of the shop wall.
- Place the watering can near the right back garden bed.
- Place tall sunflowers along the left edge, back edge, and right edge.
- Place the gray fence along the front right corner.
- Place butterflies near the fence and tools.
Sewing the Shop to the Base
- Thread a long strand of cream or tan yarn.
- Pin the shop in position on the grass base.
- Sew through the bottom stitches of the shop and into the green base.
- Work slowly around the entire bottom circle.
- Pull the yarn firmly enough that the shop stands upright.
- Knot securely under the base and weave in the tail.
If your shop leans forward because of the roof petals, add a few extra hidden stitches at the back lower wall. This balances the weight of the petal roof and keeps the building straight.
Sewing the Hamsters to the Base
- Position each hamster in front of the shop.
- Check that both faces are visible from the front.
- Sew through the bottom body rounds and feet into the grass base.
- Add one hidden stitch from each seed sack into the base for extra support.
- Secure the hats with a few stitches to the head so they do not slide.
Lettering Tips
Use small backstitches for the sign lettering. Keep the thread relaxed and avoid pulling too tightly, because tight thread can warp the crochet sign. For the main sign, stitch Sunflower on the first line, Seed on the second line, and Shop on the third line.
For the hanging sign, stitch Sunflower on the first line and Seeds on the second line. If your sign is smaller, use a simple brown sunflower symbol instead of full words.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Sew all accessories securely after checking the full layout from the front, sides, and top. Embroider the hamsters’ noses with dark brown thread, then add short mouth lines and pale pink cheek stitches. Add tiny white highlights beside the safety eyes if desired.
Shape the sunflower petals on the shop roof by gently bending each petal downward. Shape the tall sunflower stems so the flower heads face slightly forward. Sew any loose leaves flat to the garden base so the scene looks full but tidy.
Care Notes
This crochet seed shop is a decorative display piece, not a toy for small children because it includes wire, safety eyes, and small sewn details. Keep it away from moisture, direct sunlight, and heavy handling. Spot clean only with a barely damp cloth.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- The shop stands upright and is sewn firmly to the base.
- The roof has 8 large yellow petals evenly spaced around the green cap.
- The door, window, main sign, and hanging sign are visible from the front.
- Both hamsters have hats, ears, muzzles, bellies, paws, and seed sacks.
- The sunflower rows frame the left, back, and right sides of the garden.
- The stepping stone path curves from the door toward the front right.
- The wheelbarrow, shovel, pots, watering can, fence, seedlings, and butterflies are attached securely.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Dust the finished piece gently with a soft brush. For small marks, dab with cool water and mild soap, then blot dry with a clean towel. Do not soak the piece, because the stuffing, cardboard, wire, and tiny signs may lose shape.
Store the display in a dry box with tissue paper around the sunflower stems and roof petals. Avoid stacking anything on top. If the petals flatten during storage, reshape them gently with your fingers before displaying the seed shop again.
