Crochet Tutorial: Raccoon Forest Donuts Stand – Free Crochet Pattern.

This crochet scene features a cozy forest donut stand with two gray raccoon sellers, a striped pink-and-cream awning, a brown wooden counter, a “Forest Donuts” sign, shelves of colorful donuts, tiny milk bottles, boxes, a squirrel customer, a blue bird, ferns, flowers, a decorated forest tree, chairs, a round table, and a soft green oval base with stepping stones.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Pattern Overview

This pattern is written in US crochet terms and is designed as a detailed amigurumi-style forest bakery diorama. The finished piece is structured like the photo: a large oval grass base, a rectangular donut stand, tall side posts, a wide striped roof, raccoons standing behind the counter, and many small woodland details around the scene.

The design uses firm single crochet fabric, light stuffing, and optional plastic canvas or cardboard inserts to keep the stand, sign, roof, and furniture crisp. Work tightly so the stuffing does not show. Use a stitch marker at the first stitch of each round unless the instructions say to work in rows.

Finished Size

  • Whole scene: about 18 in wide, 14 in deep, and 13 in tall.
  • Donut stand counter: about 9 in wide, 3 in deep, and 3 in tall.
  • Awning roof: about 11 in wide and 6 in deep.
  • Raccoons: about 4.5 to 5 in tall.
  • Squirrel customer: about 3.5 in tall, not including the raised tail.
  • Tree: about 5 in tall.

Materials

  • Worsted weight yarn in grass green, dark green, light green, brown, dark brown, tan, cream, white, gray, dark gray, black, pink, mint green, blue, orange-brown, yellow, red, light blue, and small scrap colors for donut sprinkles.
  • 3.25 mm crochet hook for amigurumi pieces.
  • 3.75 mm crochet hook for the oval base and awning if you want a slightly softer drape.
  • Fiberfill stuffing.
  • Plastic canvas, thin cardboard, or foam board for the stand panels, sign, roof, table top, and chair seats.
  • Safety eyes: 6 mm for raccoons, 5 mm for squirrel, 4 mm for bird.
  • Black embroidery floss for eyelashes, noses, smiles, and sign lettering.
  • Pink yarn or blush felt for cheeks.
  • Yarn needle, stitch markers, pins, scissors, and optional craft wire for plant stems.

Abbreviations

  • MR: magic ring
  • ch: chain
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • sc: single crochet
  • hdc: half double crochet
  • dc: double crochet
  • inc: increase, 2 sc in the same stitch
  • dec: invisible decrease over 2 stitches
  • BLO: back loop only
  • FLO: front loop only
  • st: stitch
  • sts: stitches
  • FO: fasten off

Gauge and Tension

For the amigurumi figures, 6 sc and 6 rounds should measure about 1 inch. For the base, 5 sc and 5 rows should measure about 1 inch. Exact gauge is less important than firm tension. The pieces should feel dense enough to hold their rounded shapes.

For the stand, roof, and sign, use firm stitches and insert plastic canvas or thin cardboard between two crocheted panels. This keeps the market stall upright, just like the structured miniature in the photo.

Color Plan

  • Grass base: medium green.
  • Stand posts and counter: dark brown and warm brown.
  • Shelf and oven area: tan and brown.
  • Awning: alternating vertical stripes of soft pink and cream.
  • Sign: cream center with brown border and brown embroidered words.
  • Raccoons: gray bodies, dark gray masks and tails, white muzzles and brows, pink cheeks.
  • Aprons: one raccoon in pink, one raccoon in mint green.
  • Squirrel: orange-brown with cream muzzle and belly, small mint backpack.

Oval Grass Base

The base is a large oval with a raised border. It should be wide enough to hold the whole donut stand, tree, ferns, chairs, table, and stepping stones. Work in joined rounds if you prefer a flat edge, or continuous rounds if your tension is even.

Optional Underside Stabilizer

Cut an oval from felt, plastic canvas, or cardboard slightly smaller than the crocheted base. Sew or glue it underneath after all major pieces are attached. This helps the finished forest stand sit flat on a table.

Stone Path

The path in the photo uses small gray rounded stones arranged in two uneven rows leading from the front edge to the donut counter. Make 12 stones in light gray and medium gray.

Small Oval Stone, Make 12

  1. Ch 7.
  2. Round 1: 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 4, 4 sc in last ch, working on opposite side, sc 4, 2 sc in last ch. 16 sts.

  4. Round 3: sc around. 24 sts.
  5. FO, leaving a sewing tail. Lightly flatten without stuffing.

Sew the stones to the base in a curved walkway. Place the first stones near the front center and continue toward the counter, leaving small green spaces between them.

Donut Stand Counter

The counter is a long dark brown rectangular box with a raised top edge. It sits across the front of the stall. Use plastic canvas inside the panels so the front face stays straight and the counter does not sag.

  3. Whipstitch the edges together to make a rectangular open box.
  4. Insert plastic canvas and a thin layer of stuffing if desired.
  5. Sew the counter top over the open box.
  6. Place the counter on the front center of the grass base but do not sew it down until the posts are ready.

Four Tall Stand Posts

The photo shows dark brown vertical posts supporting the awning. Make four firm cylinders. Add wooden skewers or pipe cleaners inside if you want the roof to stand securely.

Post, Make 4

  1. With dark brown, MR 6 sc. 6 sts.
  2. Rounds 2 to 43: sc around. 6 sts.
  3. Stuff very lightly as you go, or slide a covered skewer inside.

Sew two posts to the front corners of the counter and two posts behind the counter, about 3 inches back. The front posts should be visible and straight. The back posts support the roof and frame the shelf area.

Back Shelf and Oven Unit

The left side of the back display has a small oven window, and the right side has shelves holding donuts. Use tan yarn for the cabinet and brown yarn for shelves and outlines.

Back Wall Panel

Striped Pink and Cream Awning

The awning is wide, slightly curved, and striped from front to back in soft pink and cream. It hangs over the donut stand like a sweet bakery canopy. Use flat rows and a firm border to copy the rectangular roof in the picture.

Main Awning Rectangle

  1. With pink, ch 67.
  2. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, changing colors in this stripe order: pink 10 sts, cream 8 sts, pink 10 sts, cream 8 sts, pink 10 sts, cream 8 sts, pink 12 sts. 66 sts.

  4. Round 1: with brown, sc evenly around, placing 3 sc in each corner.
  5. Round 2: with dark brown, sc around again for a thick frame. FO.

Lettering

Use brown yarn or embroidery floss. Stitch the word Forest across the upper half and Donuts across the lower half. Use backstitch or surface slip stitch. Keep each letter about 4 rows tall. Make rounded letters so the sign looks soft and handmade.

For a crochet-only version, make short chains and sew them into letter shapes: ch 6 for vertical strokes, ch 4 for small curves, and ch 3 for short crossbars. Pin each word before sewing to keep the lettering centered.

Sew the sign to the front two posts and lightly tack it to the awning valance. The top of the sign should sit just below the roof edge.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

  1. Sew the counter to the center back half of the grass base.
  2. Sew the four posts securely at the corners of the stand area.
  3. Attach the back wall and shelves behind the counter.
  4. Sew the striped awning to the tops of the posts, with the valance facing forward.
  5. Attach the Forest Donuts sign at the center front of the awning.
  6. Place the two raccoons behind the counter. Sew their lower bodies to the base or hidden back panel so they stand upright.
  7. Arrange donuts on the shelves, counter, and inside the small boxes.
  8. Sew the squirrel in front of the counter with its face turned slightly toward the raccoons.
  9. Add the milk bottles, egg basket, table, chairs, tree, ferns, flowers, bird, and stepping stones.

For the raccoon faces, embroider small black noses, curved smiles, lashes if desired, and pink cheek circles. Keep the white brows slightly curved above the dark masks. This expression is important because it gives the sellers the sweet woodland look shown in the image.

For the squirrel, embroider a tiny smile and add small cheek stitches if you like. The squirrel should be placed close to the front of the counter as if buying donuts. Angle the curled tail outward so it remains visible from the front.

Care Notes

  • Spot clean with cool water and mild soap only.
  • Do not machine wash if cardboard, foam board, wire, glue, or plastic canvas is used inside.
  • Let the piece air dry completely before storing.
  • Keep the scene away from direct sunlight to protect the soft pink, green, and brown yarn colors.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The awning is centered and securely attached to all four posts.
  • The sign reads Forest Donuts and is straight across the front.
  • Both raccoons have masks, white brows, muzzles, cheeks, aprons, arms, legs, and striped tails.
  • The counter includes donuts, boxes, milk bottles, and a basket.
  • The base includes the tree, ferns, flowers, stones, chairs, table, squirrel, and bird.
  • All loose ends are woven in or hidden inside the pieces.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

To preserve the shape, dust the scene gently with a soft brush. If a small area becomes dirty, dab it with a damp cloth instead of rubbing. Press the area back into shape with your fingers and allow it to dry flat.

Store the finished Raccoon Forest Donuts Stand in a box with tissue paper around the awning, sign, posts, and tiny accessories. Avoid stacking heavy items on top. The small donuts, bottles, and furniture are delicate, so handle the scene from the base when moving it.
