Crochet Tutorial: Daisy Cow Garden Doll – Free Crochet Pattern.

This cheerful Daisy Cow Garden Doll is a handmade amigurumi cow with a large pink muzzle, bright black-and-white face, soft horns, floppy ears, red-and-white striped shirt, blue garden overalls, floral pockets, a tiny crossbody flower bag, one sandal, and a separate blue sunhat decorated with a daisy. The finished doll has a seated garden-toy look with rounded limbs and playful stitched teeth.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Pattern Overview

This pattern is written in US crochet terms and is worked mostly in continuous spiral rounds. The doll is shaped with firm stuffing, tight single crochet stitches, and careful sewing. The finished design is made to capture the image: a sweet sitting cow with an oversized head, long muzzle, big smile, garden outfit, and removable sunhat.

  • Skill level: Confident beginner to intermediate.
  • Finished size: About 11 to 12 inches tall when seated, depending on yarn tension.
  • Construction: Head, muzzle, body, limbs, outfit pieces, accessories, and facial details are made separately, then sewn together.
  • Main technique: Amigurumi crochet with tight stitches and structured shaping.

Materials

  • Worsted weight cotton or cotton-blend yarn in white, soft pink, black, denim blue, red, brown, tan, light blue, yellow, cream, green, and small flower colors.
  • 3.0 mm crochet hook for the doll body and accessories.
  • 2.5 mm crochet hook for tiny flowers, pockets, facial lines, and small details.
  • 12 mm black safety eyes, or black crochet eyes if making for a young child.
  • Polyester fiberfill stuffing.
  • Yarn needle for sewing.
  • Stitch markers.
  • Scissors.
  • Black embroidery thread or thin black yarn for the mouth and tooth lines.
  • One small yellow button for the overall bib.
  • Optional: pins for positioning parts before sewing.

Abbreviations

  • MR: Magic ring.
  • ch: Chain.
  • sl st: Slip stitch.
  • sc: Single crochet.
  • hdc: Half double crochet.
  • dc: Double crochet.
  • inc: Increase, work 2 sc in the same stitch.
  • dec: Invisible decrease over the next 2 stitches.
  • BLO: Back loop only.
  • FLO: Front loop only.
  • st: Stitch.
  • sts: Stitches.
  • R: Round or row.
  • FO: Fasten off.

Gauge and Tension

Gauge is not strict, but tight stitches are very important. Your stuffing should not show through the fabric. For a firm amigurumi finish, use a hook smaller than the yarn label suggests. A good test swatch is 7 sc and 8 rounds measuring about 1 inch.

If your stitches are loose, go down a hook size. If the pieces feel stiff and difficult to shape, go up only slightly. The cow’s big muzzle and head depend on even tension, smooth stuffing, and neat decreases.

Important Pattern Notes

  • Work in continuous rounds unless the pattern says to join.
  • Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of every round.
  • Stuff the head, muzzle, body, arms, legs, and horns firmly but not so tightly that the stitches stretch.
  • Sew all pieces with matching yarn whenever possible.
  • Pin the face pieces before sewing. The expression depends on placement.
  • The doll is designed to sit, with one leg hanging down and one leg angled forward like the image.

Head

The head is mostly white with a large black patch on one side. The shape is tall and slightly oval, wide at the lower face and narrower near the horns. The pink muzzle will be sewn on the front later, so keep the front center smooth.

Black Face Patch

The black patch sits on the cow’s left side of the face from the viewer’s perspective. It begins near the top of the head, curves around one eye area, and narrows down toward the cheek.

  1. R1: With black yarn, ch 9. Starting in second ch from hook, sc 7, 3 sc in last ch. Work along the other side of the chain, sc 6, inc in last st. 18 sts.
  2. R2: Inc, sc 6, inc 3 times, sc 6, inc 2 times. 24 sts.
  3. R3: Sc 2, inc, sc 7, hdc inc, dc inc, hdc inc, sc 7, inc, sc 3. 29 sts.
  4. R4: Sc 5, hdc 5, dc 4, hdc 5, sc 10. 29 sts.
  5. FO with a long tail for sewing.

Place the patch vertically on the left side of the face. The top should sit just below the horn area, and the lower point should fall beside the muzzle. Sew it flat with small stitches, keeping the edge slightly wavy instead of perfectly round.

Large Pink Muzzle

The muzzle is the main feature of the doll. It is large, oval, and projects forward from the face. It is soft pink with a raised pink spiral cheek on one side and an embroidered wide grin with big square teeth.

Main Muzzle Shape

  1. R1: With soft pink yarn, ch 12. Starting in second ch from hook, sc 10, 3 sc in last ch. Work along the other side, sc 9, inc in last st. 24 sts.
  2. R2: Inc, sc 9, inc 3 times, sc 9, inc 2 times. 30 sts.
  3. R3: Sc 1, inc, sc 9, sc 1, inc, sc 1, inc, sc 1, inc, sc 9, sc 1, inc, sc 1, inc. 36 sts.
  4. R4: Sc 2, inc, sc 10, sc 2, inc, sc 2, inc, sc 2, inc, sc 10, sc 2, inc. 42 sts.
  5. R5: Sc 3, inc, sc 11, sc 3, inc, sc 3, inc, sc 3, inc, sc 11, sc 3, inc. 48 sts.
  6. R6-R10: Sc around. 48 sts for 5 rounds.
  7. R11: Sc 6, dec, repeat around. 42 sts.
  8. R12: Sc 5, dec, repeat around. 36 sts.
  9. R13: Sc 4, dec, repeat around. 30 sts.
  10. Stuff the muzzle very firmly, especially at the front center, so it keeps the rounded snout shape.
  11. R14: Sc 3, dec, repeat around. 24 sts.
  12. FO with a very long tail for sewing.

Position the muzzle across the lower front of the head. The top edge should sit just below the eyes, and the bottom edge should extend below the head like a large rounded snout. Pin first, then sew around slowly. Add more stuffing before closing the last inch.

Raised Spiral Cheek on Muzzle

  1. With soft pink yarn and 2.5 mm hook, ch 18.
  2. Starting in second ch from hook, work 2 sc in each chain across. The strip will curl naturally.
  3. FO with a long tail.
  4. Coil the strip into a small spiral circle about 1 inch wide.
  5. Sew it to the upper right side of the muzzle from the viewer’s perspective.

Embroidered Smile and Teeth

Use black embroidery thread or thin black yarn. The mouth is a wide curved smile placed across the lower front of the muzzle. It should look like a row of large cream teeth divided by black lines.

  1. First embroider a wide smile curve from the left lower side of the muzzle to the right lower side.
  2. Add one upper curved line above the smile to create the top of the teeth.
  3. Add 4 vertical tooth-divider lines from the upper curve down to the smile curve.
  4. Make the center divider slightly longer than the side dividers.
  5. Keep the embroidery loose enough that it does not pull the muzzle inward.

Eyes and Eye Whites

The eyes are oversized, glossy, and placed high on the head above the muzzle. The white eye pads make the eyes pop out slightly, giving the cow its playful garden-doll expression.

White Eye Pads, Make 2

  1. R1: With white yarn, MR, 6 sc in ring. 6 sts.
  2. R2: Inc in each st around. 12 sts.
  3. R3: Sc 1, inc, repeat around. 18 sts.
  4. R4: Sc around. 18 sts.
  5. FO with a long tail.

Insert one black safety eye through the center of each white eye pad before attaching to the head. Place both eyes above the muzzle, slightly angled outward. The cow’s right eye from the viewer’s perspective should sit on the white head area, while the other sits partly over or near the black patch.

Horns

The horns are short, rounded, and beige. They sit at the top of the head, behind the eyes and between the ears. Stuff them lightly so they stand upright but still look soft.

Horns, Make 2

  1. R1: With tan yarn, MR, 5 sc in ring. 5 sts.
  2. R2: Sc around. 5 sts.
  3. R3: Sc 1, inc, sc 3. 6 sts.
  4. R4: Sc around. 6 sts.
  5. R5: Sc 2, inc, repeat around. 8 sts.
  6. R6-R8: Sc around. 8 sts for 3 rounds.
  7. Stuff lightly.
  8. FO with a long tail for sewing.

📌Thank you for reading the article

Sew the horns to the top of the head about 1.5 inches apart. Tilt them slightly outward like the image. Secure with several stitches around the base so they do not flop.

Ears

The ears are floppy white ears with soft pink inner centers. They sit on the sides of the head under the horns. The finished ears should curve outward and slightly downward.

Outer Ear, Make 2

  1. R1: With white yarn, MR, 6 sc in ring. 6 sts.
  2. R2: Sc 1, inc, repeat around. 9 sts.
  3. R3: Sc 2, inc, repeat around. 12 sts.
  4. R4: Sc 3, inc, repeat around. 15 sts.
  5. R5: Sc 4, inc, repeat around. 18 sts.
  6. R6-R7: Sc around. 18 sts for 2 rounds.
  7. R8: Sc 4, dec, repeat around. 15 sts.
  8. Flatten the ear. Do not stuff.
  9. FO with a long tail.

Inner Ear, Make 2

  1. With pink yarn, ch 7.
  2. Starting in second ch from hook, sc 5, 3 sc in last ch.
  3. Work along the other side, sc 4, inc in last st. 14 sts.
  4. FO with a long tail.

Sew each pink inner ear flat onto a white outer ear. Pin the ears under the horns on each side of the head. Sew only the top base securely so the lower ear remains softly floppy.

Small Flowers Near Ear

The image shows small flowers near one horn and ear. Make two tiny flowers and sew them beside the cow’s left horn from the viewer’s perspective.

The body is covered by blue overalls, but the base body gives the doll its seated shape. Work the upper section in white and the lower section in denim blue to blend with the outfit.

  1. R1: With white yarn, MR, 6 sc in ring. 6 sts.
  2. R2: Inc around. 12 sts.
  3. R3: Sc 1, inc, repeat around. 18 sts.

Red and White Striped Shirt

The shirt sleeves and visible chest are red-and-white striped. The easiest way to match the look is to crochet sleeve tubes in stripes and add a striped chest panel before the overalls are placed.

Striped Chest Panel

  1. With red yarn, ch 15.
  2. Row 1: Starting in second ch from hook, sc 14, ch 1, turn.
  3. Row 2: With white yarn, sc 14, ch 1, turn.
  4. Rows 3-12: Continue alternating red and white rows, 14 sc each row.
  5. FO with a long tail.

Sew this panel to the front upper body before adding the overall bib. It should be visible on both sides of the bib and near the arm openings.

Overall Bib and Pants Details

The blue overalls are a major part of the doll. The base body already has blue lower rounds, but the bib, straps, leg cuffs, pockets, and button create the finished garden outfit.

Front Bib

  1. With denim blue yarn, ch 15.
  2. Row 1: Starting in second ch from hook, sc 14, ch 1, turn.
  3. Rows 2-9: Sc 14, ch 1, turn.

Place the bib over the striped chest panel. The bottom of the bib should sit near the belly, and the top edge should reach just below the neck area. Sew the side and bottom edges only, leaving the top edge neat.

Overall Straps, Make 2

  1. With denim blue yarn, ch 22.
  2. Starting in second ch from hook, sc 21.
  3. FO with long tails.

Sew one strap from the top right of the bib over the shoulder to the back body. Sew the second strap from the top left of the bib over the other shoulder. Cross the straps at the back if desired for extra stability.

Yellow Button

Sew one small yellow button at the upper center of the bib. If making the doll for a child under three, crochet a safe button instead by making MR, 6 sc in yellow, sl st to join, then sew securely.

Overall Pocket Patches, Make 3

  1. With light blue yarn and 2.5 mm hook, ch 6.
  2. Row 1: Starting in second ch from hook, sc 5, ch 1, turn.
  3. Row 2: Sc 5, ch 1, turn.
  4. Row 3: Sc 5.
  5. Work a border of sc around the pocket, placing 2 sc in each lower corner.
  6. FO with a long tail.

Sew one pocket to the center lower bib and one pocket to each side of the blue pants area. Decorate pockets with tiny embroidered flowers using yellow, pink, green, and red yarn. Use short straight stitches so the pockets look like floral fabric patches.

Arms

The arms are white with black hooves. They hang down from the shoulders. The sleeves are red-and-white striped and cover the upper arms.

Arm Base, Make 2

  1. R1: With black yarn, MR, 6 sc in ring. 6 sts.

  5. R5: Change to white yarn, sc around. 14 sts.
  6. R6: Change to red yarn, sc around. 14 sts.
  7. FO and weave in ends.

Slide one sleeve cover onto each arm before sewing the arms to the body. Position each sleeve near the shoulder so the white lower arm and black hoof remain visible. Sew the arms to the sides of the body under the head.

Legs

The legs are white with blue overall shorts at the top. In the image, one leg hangs downward with a sandal, while the other angles forward with a brown sole. Crochet both legs the same, then pose them differently during sewing.

Leg Base, Make 2

  1. R1: With white yarn, MR, 6 sc in ring. 6 sts.

Blue Short Cuffs, Make 2

  1. Attach denim blue yarn to the front loop of R17 on each leg.
  2. Work 18 sc around the leg.
  3. R2: Sc around again for a cuff edge.
  4. FO and weave in the end.

Brown Sandals and Sole

The cow wears a brown sandal on one visible foot and has a brown sole detail on the other forward foot. These pieces give the doll the relaxed garden-table style from the photo.

Sandal Sole, Make 2

  1. With brown yarn, ch 8.
  2. Starting in second ch from hook, sc 6, 3 sc in last ch.
  3. Work along the other side, sc 5, inc in last st. 16 sts.

Large Decorative Daisy for the Doll

The doll also has soft garden flowers on the outfit and accessories. Make one medium daisy for extra decoration if you want the front to look fuller like the photo.

  1. With yellow yarn, MR, 8 sc in ring, sl st to join.
  2. Change to white or pale pink yarn.
  3. In each stitch, work ch 3, dc, hdc, ch 3, sl st into same stitch.
  4. Repeat for all 8 petals.
  5. Sew to the hat, bag strap, or pocket area as desired.

Neck Join

The head is much larger than the body, so the neck join must be strong. Before sewing, press the body top gently to make a flat platform. Place the head so the muzzle points forward and slightly upward.

  1. Thread a long white yarn tail onto a yarn needle.
  2. Place the head centered on the body.
  3. Sew around the neck twice, catching both body stitches and lower head stitches.
  4. Add extra stitches at the front under the muzzle to support the weight.
  5. Check that the cow can sit without the head tipping too far forward.

Assembly Order

  1. Sew the black face patch onto the white head.
  2. Attach the large pink muzzle and stuff it firmly before closing.
  3. Add eye pads and safety eyes above the muzzle.
  4. Sew horns to the top of the head.
  5. Sew ears below the horns.
  6. Add the small flowers near one ear.
  7. Make the body and attach the striped chest panel.
  8. Sew the overall bib, straps, button, and pockets to the body.
  9. Attach arms with striped sleeve covers.
  10. Attach legs in a seated position, one downward and one forward.
  11. Add sandal soles, straps, and sandal flower.
  12. Sew the head firmly onto the body.
  13. Add the crossbody flower bag.
  14. Make the blue sunhat and place it beside the doll or on the head.
  15. Finish all embroidery and tidy loose ends.

Facial Placement Guide

The expression is what makes this cow look close to the image. The muzzle should be oversized, taking up almost half of the front face. The smile should be wide and cheerful. The eyes should sit high and close enough to look cute, but not so close that they look crowded.

  • Muzzle: Centered on the lower face, wide side to side, with the top edge just below the eyes.
  • Eyes: Placed above the muzzle, slightly uneven and playful, with white pads visible around the black centers.
  • Black patch: On one side of the face only, curving behind one eye and toward the cheek.
  • Smile: Lower half of the muzzle, wide and curved.
  • Teeth: Large divisions made with vertical black lines.
  • Pink spiral: On the upper side of the muzzle, not centered.

Beginner Tips for a Clean Finish

Use pins before sewing each part. Amigurumi pieces can shift while sewing, especially large pieces like the muzzle and head. Pinning lets you check the front view, side view, and seated balance before committing with permanent stitches.

  • Stuff the muzzle more firmly than the ears and arms.
  • Do not overstuff the ears because they should stay soft and floppy.
  • Use matching yarn tails for invisible seams.
  • Use thinner black thread for the mouth if thick yarn looks too heavy.
  • Shape the head with your hands after stuffing to create a smooth oval.
  • Keep all knots hidden inside the body or under sewn-on pieces.

Optional Safety Adjustments

If this doll is for a baby or toddler, replace the plastic safety eyes and button with crocheted pieces. Even safety eyes can loosen with heavy use. Embroidered or crocheted features are safer for young children and still keep the cute garden cow look.

  • For crocheted black eyes, make MR, 6 sc, then inc around for 12 sts.
  • Sew the black eye circles onto the white eye pads.
  • For a crocheted yellow button, make MR, 6 sc, sl st to join.
  • Sew all flowers with extra stitches through the center and petals.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

After all parts are attached, check the doll from the front. The cow should have a tall white head, one black patch, a large pink muzzle, upright horns, floppy ears, a blue overall outfit, red-striped sleeves, and garden-style accessories.

  • Reinforce the neck with extra stitches if the head wobbles.
  • Add black embroidery lines slowly and symmetrically across the teeth.
  • Use small pink stitches inside the ears if you want extra softness.
  • Sew flower decorations firmly so they sit flat.
  • Trim only after every detail is secure.

Care Notes

Hand washing is recommended because the doll has layered details, embroidery, a button, and small flowers. Spot clean whenever possible. Avoid twisting the doll after washing because the head, muzzle, and hat brim may lose shape.

  • Use cool water and mild soap.
  • Gently press out water with a towel.
  • Reshape the muzzle, ears, legs, and hat while damp.
  • Lay flat to dry completely.
  • Do not machine dry.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Store the Daisy Cow Garden Doll in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Long sun exposure may fade the blue hat, pink muzzle, and red shirt stripes. If displaying on a shelf, gently dust with a soft brush every few weeks.

  • Keep away from damp storage boxes.
  • Do not hang the doll by the head or arms.
  • Support the seated body when moving it.
  • Store the removable hat flat so the brim does not bend.
  • Refresh the shape by gently pressing the stuffing back into place with your hands.

Your Daisy Cow Garden Doll is now complete, with its big cheerful muzzle, garden overalls, tiny flower bag, floppy ears, and blue daisy hat ready for a cozy handmade display.
