Gauge and Notes

Gauge is not strict, but your stitches should be tight enough that stuffing does not show. For a neat amigurumi look, use a hook smaller than the yarn label recommends. The doll in the image has dense, even stitches, so keep a firm tension throughout.

Stuff the head, snout, neck, body, arms, legs, and feet firmly. Stuff the clothing only lightly if needed. The neck should stand upright, so add stuffing in small pieces and push it evenly into the long tube.

Work in continuous rounds unless the pattern says to join. Use a stitch marker for the first stitch of each round. When sewing pieces together, pin everything first to check the angle and balance.

Optional Yellow Body Spots

The snake has tiny yellow garden-like spots on the side of the neck and body. These are small but help match the playful look of the image.

  • With yellow yarn, make several tiny straight stitches along the darker green back stripe.
  • Place two small yellow dots near the side of the neck.
  • Add one small dot near the shoulder, partly hidden by the overalls.

Assembly Order

  1. Sew the snout to the lower front of the head. The snout should project forward and slightly downward.

  3. Sew the lower red mouth panel below it, leaving the mouth open.
  4. Add the tongue to the lower mouth before closing the back edge completely.
  5. Sew the large fangs to the upper mouth and smaller teeth to the lower mouth.

  10. Put the overalls over the shirt and sew the bib and straps in place.

  15. Sew the flower accessory to the head.
  16. Place the sun hat beside the doll or lightly tack it to the head if you prefer a permanent hat.
  17. Arrange the three flower pots near the doll for the full garden display.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Use pins before sewing the final details. The face should look joyful and slightly silly, with the big eyes close together, the mouth wide open, and the tongue curling outward. If the mouth looks too flat, add a few hidden stitches at the corners to lift the smile.

Shape the snout by gently pulling a yarn thread from one cheek through the head to the other cheek. Tie inside or hide the knot under the snout. This gives the face a soft rounded crocodile-snake expression like the picture.

  • Add two tiny nostrils on top of the snout.
  • Add yellow cheek dots.
  • Add tiny white highlights to the black pupils if desired.
  • Make sure both fangs point downward and sit evenly.
  • Brush the tongue curve into place with your fingers.

Care Notes

This doll is best used as a decorative handmade item. Because it has small parts, teeth, flower pots, and accessories, it is not recommended for children under three years old.

  • Spot clean with a damp cloth.
  • Do not machine wash if wire, cardboard, or plastic canvas is used.
  • Let the doll air dry completely before storing.
  • Keep the red accessories away from direct moisture to prevent color transfer.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The head is larger than the body and leans slightly forward.
  • The snout is wide, oval, and firmly stuffed.
  • The mouth stays open with red inside panels visible.
  • The eyes are large, white, close together, and placed above the snout.
  • The overalls have straps, red buttons, rolled cuffs, and flower embroidery.
  • The red bag crosses the body diagonally.
  • The hat has a beige brim, red band, and side bow.
  • The sandals show green toes at the front.
  • The flower pots have soil, stems, leaves, and colorful blooms.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

To preserve the shape, hold the doll by the body rather than the neck or mouth. The long neck and open mouth are sculptural details and should not be pulled.

For dust, use a soft clean makeup brush or a cool air blower. For stains, dab gently with mild soap and cold water. Avoid soaking the doll, especially around the eyes, mouth, purse, and hat brim.

Store the doll upright in a dry place. If the hat is removable, store it flat so the brim does not bend. Keep the tiny flower pots in a small box when not displayed, because the stems and petals can flatten under heavier items.
