Crochet Tutorial: Mouse Morning Pancake Kitchen Box – Free Crochet Pattern.

Crochet Tutorial: Mouse Morning Pancake Kitchen Box – Free Crochet Pattern.

This charming crochet project recreates a tiny morning pancake kitchen inside a soft yellow box. The design includes a mouse baker wearing a white apron, an open kitchen box, stove, counters, shelves, plates, butter, flour bag, eggs, whisk, milk glass, pancakes, berries, syrup, coffee cup, window plants, and a wooden spoon.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Finished Size

  • Open kitchen box: about 8.5 in wide, 6.5 in deep, and 6.25 in tall.
  • Mouse: about 4.25 in tall from feet to top of ears.
  • Counter height: about 2 in tall.
  • Small accessories: about 0.25 in to 1.5 in wide.

Skill Level

Advanced beginner to intermediate. The stitches are simple, but the project has many tiny pieces. Work slowly, count every round, and pin each detail before sewing. A neat finish depends more on careful shaping and assembly than difficult crochet stitches.

Materials

  • Worsted weight cotton yarn in pale yellow, cream, tan, beige, white, light brown, medium brown, dark brown, gray, black, pink, green, red, blue, pale aqua, and golden yellow.
  • Small amounts of embroidery thread in black, brown, green, and red.
  • 3.0 mm crochet hook for the box and furniture.
  • 2.5 mm crochet hook for the mouse and small accessories.
  • Fiberfill stuffing.
  • Plastic canvas or firm cardboard for structure.
  • Yarn needle and sewing pins.
  • Two 6 mm black safety eyes or embroidered eyes.
  • Small round buttons for cabinet knobs, optional.
  • Fine black marker or black embroidery thread for tiny labels.

  • MR: magic ring
  • ch: chain
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • sc: single crochet
  • hdc: half double crochet
  • dc: double crochet
  • inc: 2 sc in the same stitch
  • dec: invisible single crochet decrease
  • BLO: back loop only
  • FLO: front loop only
  • st: stitch
  • rnd: round
  • FO: fasten off

Gauge and Structure Notes

Gauge is not strict for this display piece, but tight stitches are important. With worsted cotton and a 3.0 mm hook, 18 sc and 20 rows should measure about 4 in. With a 2.5 mm hook, the amigurumi mouse should feel firm and smooth.

The kitchen box is made like an open suitcase. The bottom tray has high yellow sides, and the back wall stands upright. Plastic canvas is inserted into the base, sides, and back so the shape stays square. The inner walls are cream, with yellow rounded trim around the outside edge.

Main Kitchen Box Bottom Tray

Base Panel

Use pale yellow yarn and the 3.0 mm hook. Work in rows. Chain 37.

  1. Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn. 36 sc.

  6. FO, leaving a long tail for sewing the inner lining later.

Base Insert and Lining

Cut plastic canvas to fit the bottom: about 8.25 in by 6.25 in. Place it inside the yellow tray. The insert should sit flat without bending the sides. If it is too tight, trim one mesh square at a time.

Seaming Tips for a Clean Kitchen Box

Use matching yarn tails for visible seams. When sewing furniture to the wall or floor, stitch through only the back loops of the furniture edge when possible. This keeps the front surface smooth and prevents bulky ridges around the tiny counter and stove.

For the upright wall, sew through the bottom edge several times. The wall needs to stand at a right angle. Add a hidden line of stitching from the rear tray corners to the lower wall corners for extra strength.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

  1. Sew the back wall securely to the tray base.
  2. Sew the stove to the floor and back wall.
  3. Sew the counter next to the stove, keeping the top level.
  4. Sew the shelves and window to the back wall.
  5. Attach plates, honey jar, butter dishes, plants, flour bag, eggs, whisk, milk glass, and pan.
  6. Sew the mouse head to the body, then attach ears, snout, arms, feet, apron straps, and tail.
  7. Place the wooden spoon in one paw and secure it with a few stitches.
  8. Add the pancake plate, bowls, syrup bottle, coffee cup, and rug at the front.
  9. Embroider eyelashes or tiny cheek stitches only if desired. Keep the face simple and sweet like the image.

Care Notes

This project is best used as a decorative display. Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not soak the box because the inner structure may bend. Let the piece air dry fully before storing.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Keep the finished kitchen box away from direct sunlight to prevent fading. Store it in a dry place with light tissue paper inside the box to support the walls. If dust collects on tiny details, use a soft brush and clean gently around the accessories.

If a small piece loosens over time, sew it back with matching thread instead of pulling the original yarn. For long-term display, avoid heavy objects on the tray edge. The soft yellow border should stay rounded and clean when handled gently.
