Crochet Tutorial: Mini Glass Greenhouse Flower Garden – Free Crochet Pattern.

This miniature crochet garden scene features a clear-paneled glass greenhouse with a warm brown frame, a textured green lawn base, a potting bench, raised flower beds, potted succulents, stepping stones, tiny garden tools, a watering can, baskets, climbing blossoms, and colorful blooming flowers. The design is made as a detailed display diorama with sturdy crochet pieces, sewn-on clear vinyl panels, and many small garden accessories arranged just like the image.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Pattern Overview

This pattern is written in US crochet terms and is designed as a display piece. The finished project is a miniature greenhouse garden with a rectangular base, a pitched-roof greenhouse on the right side, a potting bench on the left side, a front flower bed, a right flower box, and many small plants and tools.

The greenhouse is built with crocheted brown frame strips and clear vinyl or acetate panels. The crochet creates the wooden structure, while the transparent inserts give the glass effect seen in the photo. For best results, work tightly and block each flat piece before assembly.

  • Skill level: Intermediate, but adventurous beginners can follow slowly.
  • Finished base size: About 12 in wide x 9 in deep.
  • Finished greenhouse size: About 5 in wide x 4 in deep x 5 in tall at the roof peak.
  • Finished potting bench size: About 4 in wide x 2 in deep x 3 in tall.
  • Main method: Flat crochet panels, small amigurumi rounds, sewn assembly, and surface embroidery.

Materials

  • Sport weight cotton yarn in grass green, dark green, light green, moss green, brown, tan, beige, dark soil brown, terracotta, aqua, gray, white, yellow, red, pink, purple, blue, orange, and cream.
  • 2.25 mm crochet hook for main pieces.
  • 1.75 mm crochet hook for tiny flowers and tools.
  • Fiberfill for pots, baskets, and raised beds.
  • Plastic canvas, thin cardboard, or craft foam for the base, shelves, bench, and greenhouse support.
  • Clear vinyl sheet or acetate for greenhouse windows.
  • Thin floral wire or pipe cleaners for greenhouse posts, flower stems, and tool handles.
  • Tapestry needle.
  • Sewing pins.
  • Stitch markers.
  • Sharp scissors.
  • Optional fabric glue for securing clear panels and internal support only.

Abbreviations

  • ch: chain
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • sc: single crochet
  • hdc: half double crochet
  • dc: double crochet
  • tr: treble crochet
  • inc: 2 sc in the same stitch
  • dec: single crochet 2 stitches together
  • BLO: back loop only
  • FLO: front loop only
  • MR: magic ring
  • FO: fasten off
  • RS: right side
  • WS: wrong side

Gauge and Tension

Gauge is important because this is a structured miniature. Using a 2.25 mm hook and sport cotton, 10 sc x 11 rows should measure about 1.5 in square. If your stitches are loose, use a smaller hook. If your fabric curls heavily, go up one hook size for the flat base only.

Keep all greenhouse frame pieces firm. The brown strips should feel like small cords rather than soft fabric. Tight stitches make the frame stand straighter and help the clear panels look neat.

Construction Notes

  • Work most pieces in continuous rounds unless a joined round is specified.
  • Use a stitch marker at the start of each round.
  • For tiny flowers, leave long tails so they can be sewn directly onto beds, pots, vines, and planters.
  • Insert plastic canvas or thin cardboard into flat pieces before closing edges when firmness is needed.
  • Clear vinyl panels should be cut slightly smaller than each frame opening, then whipstitched or glued behind the brown frame.
  • Arrange all pieces on the base before sewing permanently.

Color Placement Guide

  • Grass base: moss green and grass green.
  • Greenhouse frame: medium brown with darker brown surface details.
  • Greenhouse glass: clear vinyl or acetate.
  • Potting bench: tan and beige with brown edging.
  • Soil: dark brown.
  • Flower beds: brown sides, dark soil tops, colorful flowers.
  • Tools: gray metal heads with tan or brown handles.
  • Watering can: pale aqua.

  • Front door pane: Cut 1 narrow rectangle.
  • Back wall panes: Cut 6 small rectangles.
  • Side wall panes: Cut 8 rectangles total.
  • Roof panes: Cut 12 rectangles total.

Small Flower Pots Around the Greenhouse

Make 4 extra pots and place them at the greenhouse entrance, on the bench shelf, and near the front planter.

  1. Use the basic tiny pot pattern.
  2. For each pot, add either a succulent, cactus, or one small daisy.
  3. For a daisy pot, make 3 green leaves and 1 mini daisy, then sew them to the soil circle.
  4. For a cactus pot, add one cactus cylinder and a tiny pink blossom on top.

Small Orange and Pink Flowers for Bench Pots

The upper bench shelf has tiny flower pots with orange and pink blooms. Make the blooms very small so they stay in scale.

  4. Sew onto a tiny green stem made from ch 4.

Make 2 orange flowers, 2 pink flowers, and 1 cream flower. Sew them into pots on the top shelf and near the greenhouse side.

Greenhouse Interior Plants

The greenhouse should not look empty. Add a few low plants inside before attaching the roof fully, or use a long needle to sew them in afterward.

Interior Plant Mat

  2. Sew them to the soil mat.
  3. Add 2 tiny pink flowers and 1 orange flower.
  4. Place the mat inside the greenhouse and sew it to the floor.

Green Lawn Texture

To make the lawn look more like the textured grass in the image, add short surface stitches after the large pieces are sewn on.

  1. Thread a tapestry needle with moss green yarn.
  2. Make short straight stitches between the flower beds, greenhouse, and bench.
  3. Add a few light green stitches near the front edge.
  4. Keep the stitches random and short.
  5. Avoid placing long strands where small accessories will be sewn.

Placement Layout

Before final sewing, place every piece on the base and check the composition from the front. The greenhouse should dominate the right-back area, the bench should fill the left-back area, and the flowers should sit across the front.

  • Place the greenhouse floor about 1 in from the back edge and 1 in from the right edge.
  • Place the potting bench about 1 in from the left edge and slightly forward of the greenhouse back line.
  • Place the front raised flower bed near the front left-center area.
  • Place the right long planter in front of the greenhouse right side.
  • Place the pink planter near the greenhouse doorway.
  • Place the watering can near the left-front corner beside the bench.
  • Scatter stepping stones between the flower bed, bench, and greenhouse entrance.
  • Lean the tools against the greenhouse front and right planter.

Joining and Sewing Tips

Use matching yarn for visible seams and sewing thread for invisible work around clear panels. When sewing thick pieces, pass the needle through only the back loops of the base fabric so the stitches stay neat.

For upright pieces, stitch around the bottom edge first, then add hidden anchor stitches through the back or side. This keeps the greenhouse, bench, and planters from leaning when the piece is moved.

  • Use brown yarn to sew brown planters and greenhouse pieces.
  • Use green yarn to sew plants and leaves to the lawn.
  • Use dark brown yarn to attach flowers to soil areas.
  • Use small stitches, especially around mini accessories.

Detailed Flower Arrangement

The flower placement is important for matching the image. The front bed should be full and colorful, while the right planter should look more upright and structured.

Front Bed Arrangement

  • Left front: 3 red roses with 4 dark green leaves.
  • Center: 3 yellow daisies and 2 yellow rose buds.
  • Right front: 3 white daisies and 2 purple blossoms.
  • Back row: mixed dark green leaves with small pink and cream flowers.

Right Planter Arrangement

  • Back right: 3 tall purple or blue spike flowers.
  • Center: 3 red or pink roses.
  • Front: 2 white daisies and 2 yellow flowers.
  • Edges: several moss green leaves pointing outward.

Bench Shelf Arrangement

  • Top left: small tan pot with succulent.
  • Top center: white jar.
  • Top right: terracotta pot with orange flower.
  • Work surface: seed packet, rolled mat, small trowel, and notebook.
  • Lower shelf: basket, extra pot, and beige garden sack.

Mini Flower Buds

For the tiny rounded buds visible around the garden, make simple French-knot style crochet buds.

  1. With any flower color, ch 3.
  2. Work 4 sc into the first ch.
  3. Sl st into the same first ch to close.
  4. FO with a long tail.
  5. Sew the bud to a green ch-4 stem or directly onto a leaf cluster.

Make at least 8 buds in pink, orange, cream, and red. Add them to the climbing vine, bench pots, and flower beds.

Mini Hanging Detail Inside the Greenhouse

The greenhouse appears to have small warm plant shapes inside. Add one hanging pot or vertical plant for extra depth.

Hanging Pot

  1. With terracotta, 5 sc in MR. 5 sc.
  2. Round 2: Inc around. 10 sc.
  3. Round 3: BLO, sc around. 10 sc.

  5. FO and stuff lightly.
  6. Make 3 tiny leaves and sew them to the top.
  7. With brown yarn, ch 8 for a hanger and sew inside the roof area.

Optional Greenhouse Door Hinge Detail

To make the front door look more realistic, add two tiny hinge stitches on one side.

  1. Thread dark brown yarn.
  2. Make 2 short horizontal stitches on the left side of the door.
  3. Place one hinge near the top third and one near the bottom third.
  4. Add one tiny tan stitch on the opposite side as the handle.

Blocking

Blocking makes the flat panels look clean and helps the greenhouse stand straight. Before assembly, lightly mist the wall frames, roof panels, base, bench panels, and planter pieces. Pin them into shape and let them dry completely.

Do not heavily steam the clear vinyl. Heat can warp plastic panels. If the greenhouse frame needs shaping after the vinyl is attached, use your fingers and gentle pressure instead of an iron.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

This design does not include a character face, so the final detailing focuses on expression through placement, color, and miniature garden storytelling. Check the greenhouse angle, the flower height, the pathway curve, and the bench accessories before fastening the final pieces.

  1. Sew the greenhouse securely to the base first.
  2. Sew the potting bench next, making sure it stands upright.
  3. Add the front raised bed and right planter.
  4. Sew the stepping stones in a soft curved path.
  5. Add the watering can, baskets, sacks, and loose pots.
  6. Attach garden tools last so they sit naturally against the greenhouse and bench.
  7. Trim loose yarn tails carefully.

Care Notes

  • Keep the finished greenhouse garden as a decorative piece, not a toy for small children.
  • Do not machine wash because the clear panels, cardboard, wire, and tiny accessories may bend or loosen.
  • Dust gently with a soft brush.
  • Keep away from direct harsh sunlight to protect yarn colors and clear panels.
  • Store flat in a box when not displayed.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • Greenhouse walls are straight and securely attached.
  • Roof panels meet neatly at the ridge.
  • Clear panels are clean and not buckled.
  • Bench legs are stable.
  • Flower beds are full and balanced.
  • Stepping stones create a visible path.
  • Tools, baskets, pots, and watering can are sewn firmly.
  • All yarn tails are woven in or hidden.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

For regular cleaning, use a small clean paintbrush to remove dust from flowers, leaves, and greenhouse frames. Work slowly around the clear panels so they do not scratch. A dry cotton swab can help clean corners around the greenhouse window panes.

If the crochet gets slightly misshapen, reshape it gently by hand. Do not soak the full piece. For a small yarn stain, dab with a barely damp cloth and let the area air dry completely.

To preserve the display, keep it on a flat shelf away from moisture. If storing, place tissue paper around the greenhouse and bench so the tiny flowers are not crushed. Avoid stacking anything on top of the piece.

Your Mini Glass Greenhouse Flower Garden is now complete, with a cozy potting bench, clear greenhouse walls, raised flower beds, tiny garden tools, stepping stones, potted plants, and colorful blooms arranged into a detailed handmade cottage garden scene.
