Pattern Overview

This pattern is written in US crochet terms and is made mostly in continuous rounds. Use a stitch marker at the first stitch of every round. The doll is worked firmly so the stuffing does not show through.

The finished doll is approximately 11.5 to 12.5 inches tall when made with medium weight yarn and a 2.75 mm hook. The accessories are removable, except the facial details, flowers, overalls, and shoe decorations.

Skill Level

Intermediate beginner to intermediate. A confident beginner can follow this pattern if they are comfortable with magic ring, single crochet, increases, decreases, color changes, sewing, and small applique pieces.

Gauge and Shape Notes

The photo shows a doll with a large round head, short rounded body, soft arms, straight legs, and chunky shoes. The head should be wider than the torso. The overalls should sit high on the chest and end just above the knees.

Use tight, even stitches. The ideal fabric is firm but not stiff. If your stitches open when stuffed, go down one hook size. If the doll becomes too rigid, go up one hook size.

  • Head width: about 5.5 inches.
  • Body width: about 4 inches.
  • Leg length: about 2.5 inches before shoes.
  • Arm length: about 4 inches.
  • Overalls height: from lower torso to upper chest.
  • Hat width: about 5 inches across.
  • Strawberry purse: about 2 inches tall.

Important Construction Notes

The pig body is crocheted in separate pieces and sewn together. The overalls are worked directly onto the body for a fitted look, then straps, pockets, green edging, strawberries, and flower embroidery are added.

The face is the main feature of this doll. Place the eyes evenly, sew the snout at the center, add small brown eyebrows above the eyes, and add gentle blush on both cheeks. The ears should sit high and slightly outward.

  6. Rnds 6-14: sc in each st around. 24 sts for 9 rounds.

Stuff the lower leg lightly. FO the first leg. Make the second leg but do not FO if you want to join them. For the doll in the photo, the legs sit close together with a small gap, so sewing them separately is easier.

FO the second leg and leave a long tail. Sew both legs to the lower body between Rnds 1 and 7 of the body. Place the legs about 2 stitches apart at the inner thighs.

Arms

Make 2. Begin with strawberry pink yarn for the hoof hand, then change to soft peach. The arms are slightly rounded and hang beside the body.

Extra Tiny Garden Details

These details make the doll match the image more closely. Do not place them in perfect rows. The charm comes from the natural, handmade scattered look.

  • Add 3 tiny white flowers to the overalls bib.
  • Add 4 to 6 green leaf stitches near the strawberry motifs.
  • Add one small red stitch near the center chest.
  • Add a few pink dots on the overalls using straight stitches.
  • Add green edging around the shorts and bib to match the straps.
  • Add pink blush to the cheeks after all sewing is complete.

Joining the Doll

Before sewing everything permanently, pin the head, body, arms, and legs together. The doll should sit flat on its back like the photo, with the head centered and the feet pointing forward.

  1. Sew the body to the head using the long tail from the body.
  2. Go around the neck twice to make it sturdy.
  3. Add extra stuffing into the neck area before closing the seam completely.
  4. Sew the legs to the lower body, keeping the feet parallel.
  5. Sew the arms to the sides, slightly angled downward.
  6. Attach the overalls straps after the arms are sewn so the straps sit naturally over the shoulders.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Sew the snout firmly to the center of the face and shape it with your fingers. Add the two nostrils, curved eyebrows, and blush. Sew the ears high on the head, then add the brown hair curl between them.

Place daisies and leaves near both ears. Sew the strawberry bag strap diagonally across the chest. Attach the bag at the hip so it rests on the front right side of the overalls.

  • Check that both eyes are level.
  • Check that the snout is centered.
  • Check that the ears angle evenly outward.
  • Check that the overalls bib is centered under the snout.
  • Check that the shoes face forward.

Care Notes

Spot clean the doll with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not soak the doll if you used safety eyes, blush, embroidery, or pipe cleaners inside the accessories.

Let the doll air dry completely on a towel. Gently reshape the head, hat brim, ears, shoes, and strawberry bag while damp.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The head is larger than the body and firmly stuffed.
  • The snout is raised, oval, and pink.
  • The ears are triangular and placed high.
  • The overalls are baby pink with green trim.
  • Small red strawberries are scattered across the overalls.
  • The red strawberry bag crosses the body diagonally.
  • The hat has a wide brim with pink edging.
  • The trowel and watering can are finished in gray and brown.
  • Cheeks, eyebrows, flowers, and shoe details are added last.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Keep the doll away from direct sunlight for long periods, because pink and red yarn may fade over time. Store it in a clean, dry place when not displayed.

If the flowers flatten, lift the petals gently with your fingers. If the hat brim curls too much, lightly steam it from a safe distance and press it flat by hand.

For gifting, place the doll and accessories in a breathable cotton bag or a box with tissue paper. Avoid plastic storage for long periods, especially in humid spaces.
