Pattern Overview
This pattern is written in US crochet terms and is designed as a detailed display piece inspired by the image. The finished scene is built on a flat circular garden base, with separate amigurumi pieces sewn on securely after crocheting.
The finished size will vary depending on yarn and tension. Using sport or DK cotton with a 2.25 mm hook, the base measures about 15 inches across, the hanging sun measures about 6 inches across without rays, and each hedgehog measures about 3.25 inches tall.

Important Notes Before Starting
Work amigurumi pieces in continuous spiral rounds unless the pattern says to join. Use a stitch marker in the first stitch of every round. Stuff the pieces firmly enough to hold shape, but do not overstuff tiny pieces, because seams may stretch.
For the clean display look shown in the image, keep all yarn tails long and use them for sewing. After joining each piece, weave the tail through the base and hide it inside nearby stitches. Shape pieces with your fingers as you sew.
The image has many small decorative parts. Crochet each item separately first, then place all pieces on the base before sewing. This lets you adjust the party table, hedgehogs, flowers, mushrooms, pond, stones, and hanging sun until the scene feels balanced.
Large Round Garden Base
The base is a flat circular lawn in deep green with raised stitch texture. It has a thick edge and a daisy border around the front half. The center holds a golden oval rug where the hedgehogs sit around the tea table.

Raised Grass Ridges
To copy the ribbed lawn texture in the image, hold light green yarn on top of the base and surface sl st along several round lines. Make one ring on Rnd 8, one on Rnd 14, one on Rnd 20, and one on Rnd 27.
- Insert hook from front to back between stitches.
- Pull up a loop of light green yarn.
- Insert hook into the next space, pull up a loop, and sl st.
- Continue around, keeping the surface stitches loose so the mat stays flat.
Golden Oval Picnic Rug
The oval rug sits slightly forward of center and is worked in sunny yellow with a warm orange border. It should look like a flat woven mat placed on top of the green lawn.

- With yellow, MR.
- Repeat ch 2, sc, ch 2, sl st into ring five times.
- Pull tight and FO.
- Sew several near the mushrooms and behind the table.
Assembly Layout
Place the green base flat on the table. Position the golden rug in the center front area. Set the round table in the middle of the rug. Arrange one hedgehog at the left front, one at the right front, and one at the back center.
The two front hedgehogs should face inward toward the tea table. The back hedgehog should sit behind the table, slightly higher in the scene. Tilt the hats gently so each character has the soft handmade expression shown in the image.
- Sew the oval rug to the green base first.
- Sew the tea table to the center of the rug.
- Sew the hedgehogs around the table, leaving their arms angled forward.
- Sew cups, plates, cookies, and teapot to the table.
- Sew the basket near the front left side of the rug.
- Sew the flower pot to the right rear side.
- Sew sunflowers to both side areas, using stems hidden behind flower heads.
- Sew mushrooms around the garden, with taller mushrooms toward the back.
- Sew pond to the front right side.
- Sew stepping stones to the front center path.
- Sew daisies around the front outer edge.
- Attach the sign to the right rear side.
- Insert the arch ends into the base behind the scene and secure with strong stitches.
- Hang the sun from the center of the arch.
Securing the Arch
Push each end of the wired arch gently through the green base near the back left and back right edges. Bend the wire ends into small flat hooks underneath the base. Cover the wire ends with crocheted green circles or felt if desired.
Use deep green yarn to stitch around each arch foot several times. The arch should stand firmly without leaning forward. If the sun is heavy, add a second invisible support strand from the back of the sun to the arch curve.
Optional Green Anchor Circles, Make 2
- Rnd 1: With deep green, MR, 8 sc. 8 sts.
- Rnd 2: Inc around. 16 sts.
- Rnd 3: Sc 1, inc, repeat around. 24 sts.
- FO with long tail.
- Sew one circle over each arch foot on the base.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
After all main pieces are sewn down, check the hedgehog faces. Add small black eye highlights with one tiny white stitch if desired. Shape the snouts with a few hidden stitches, pulling gently so each face looks rounded and friendly.
Use pink yarn or embroidery floss to add cheek marks. Stitch two short diagonal lines under each eye. Keep the mouth small and centered. For a soft expression, embroider the smile with a single shallow curve instead of a large line.
Add final flower leaves, loose garden buds, and tiny vine stitches after the big pieces are attached. This helps hide seams and makes the whole garden look full, bright, and naturally arranged.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
To preserve the bright colors, keep the garden party scene away from direct sunlight for long periods. Cotton yarn can fade if placed beside a bright window every day. A shaded shelf or glass cabinet is best.
For dust removal, use a soft clean makeup brush or a small handheld air blower. Brush gently around the hedgehog backs, flower petals, mushroom caps, and arch leaves. Avoid pulling on the butterflies or hanging sun.
If a spot appears, dampen a white cloth with cool water and press lightly. Do not rub hard. Let the piece dry naturally on a towel. Never twist, soak, bleach, or iron the finished scene.
When storing, support the arch with tissue paper and keep the sun from pulling on the hanging chain. Place acid-free tissue around the flowers and hedgehogs so small petals and hats keep their shape.
Your Sunlit Garden Hedgehog Party is now complete, with a glowing sun, cheerful flowers, tiny tea treats, and a cozy garden gathering full of handmade charm.
