Crochet Tutorial: Giraffe Daisy Summer Dress Doll – Free Crochet Pattern.

This cheerful crochet giraffe doll wears a blue and white striped summer dress decorated with tiny daisies, matching blue sandals, a flower crown, and a tan crossbody bag. The set also includes a round blue sun hat with a daisy, a small beige watering can, and a little potted daisy flower, creating the full garden-day look shown in the photo.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Finished Size

  • Main giraffe doll: about 15 inches tall when made with DK weight cotton yarn and a 2.5 mm hook.
  • Sun hat: about 4 inches wide.
  • Crossbody bag: about 2.25 inches wide.
  • Watering can: about 3.25 inches long including handle and spout.
  • Potted daisy: about 2.5 inches tall.

Skill Level

Intermediate beginner to intermediate. The doll uses basic amigurumi shaping, color changes, simple embroidery, small appliques, and light assembly. The dress is crocheted as part of the body, then finished with stripes, edging, and small daisy decorations.

Materials

  • DK weight cotton yarn in golden yellow for the giraffe body.
  • DK weight cotton yarn in pale cream for the muzzle and sandal soles.
  • DK weight cotton yarn in chocolate brown for hooves, ossicones, spots, and tail tuft.
  • DK weight cotton yarn in sky blue for dress stripes, hat, sandals, and dress trim.
  • DK weight cotton yarn in white for dress stripes, daisies, and eye highlights.
  • DK weight cotton yarn in yellow for daisy centers.
  • DK weight cotton yarn in beige or tan for the bag, watering can, and flower pot.
  • Small amount of green yarn for flower stems and leaves.
  • Small amount of black embroidery thread for eyelashes, nostrils, and eye outline.
  • Small amount of blue embroidery thread or yarn for the blue eye centers.
  • 2.5 mm crochet hook for the doll and accessories.
  • 2.0 mm crochet hook for flowers and face details, optional but helpful.
  • Fiberfill stuffing.
  • Yarn needle.
  • Stitch marker.
  • Two small flat black safety eyes, 6 mm, or embroidered eyes if making for a young child.
  • One small tan or wooden button for the bag flap.
  • Sewing needle and matching thread for the button.
  • Pins for positioning pieces before sewing.

Gauge

Gauge is not critical, but tight stitches are important. With DK cotton and a 2.5 mm hook, 8 single crochet stitches and 8 rounds should measure about 1 inch. Your stitches should be firm enough that stuffing does not show through.

US Crochet Abbreviations

  • sc: single crochet
  • hdc: half double crochet

  • BLO: back loop only
  • FLO: front loop only

Pattern Notes

  • Work most amigurumi pieces in continuous rounds unless the pattern says to join.
  • Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each round.
  • Stuff firmly but gradually. The long neck needs firm stuffing so the head stays upright.
  • When changing colors, finish the last yarn-over of the previous stitch with the new color.
  • The dress skirt is worked from the waist downward after the body is made, giving the flared summer dress shape seen in the image.
  • Small daisies are sewn on after the doll is fully assembled so their placement can match the photo.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

  3. Sew ears to the sides of the head and ossicones to the top. Keep both pairs symmetrical.
  4. Sew the flower crown vine across the forehead. Add daisies over the vine after it is secured.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

For long-term display, gently dust the doll and accessories with a soft brush. Store the small hat, watering can, and potted flower together in a breathable cotton bag so the pieces do not get lost.

If the doll becomes flattened, reshape it by hand while it is slightly damp, then let it dry completely. Avoid machine washing if the doll includes safety eyes, a sewn button, or delicate embroidered flower details.
