This amigurumi pattern creates a red woodpecker doll with a tall feather crest, oversized white-and-green eyes, yellow beak and cheeks, denim jacket, striped garden shirt, brown pants, white gloves, sandals, a crossbody satchel, and tiny garden accessories. The finished display also includes a blue beanie, flower accents, a small potted sprout, and a miniature watering can.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Finished Size, Skill Level, and Construction
Finished doll size: about 13 inches tall when made with sport weight cotton yarn and a 2.25 mm hook. The beanie is about 4.5 inches wide, the satchel is about 2 inches wide, the pot is about 1.25 inches tall, and the watering can is about 1 inch tall.
Skill level: confident beginner to intermediate. You will use basic amigurumi shaping, color changes, flat garment pieces, small appliques, embroidery, and careful sewing.
The doll is crocheted in separate shaped pieces, then assembled. Work the head, body, legs, arms, beak, eyes, cheeks, crest feathers, clothing, and garden accessories separately. This gives the finished project the layered handmade look shown in the image.

Gauge and Tension
With the 2.25 mm hook, 8 sc across and 9 rounds high should measure about 1 inch. The fabric should be firm enough that stuffing does not show. If your stitches are loose, go down a hook size. If your fabric feels stiff and difficult to sew, go up slightly.
Keep all amigurumi pieces worked tightly. The photo shows a smooth, dense crochet texture with clearly visible rounds, especially on the head, beak, pants, jacket, and beanie.
Main Head in Red
The head is a large red oval with a rounded forehead, narrow lower face, and space at the front for the beak, cheeks, and big eyes. Stuff firmly, but keep the front smooth so the face details sit flat.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Pin every major piece before sewing. Check the face from the front and side. The beak should project forward, the cheeks should be round and balanced, and the eyes should sit high and close together.
Sew with small, tight stitches using matching yarn tails. Hide knots inside the body when possible. Add tan denim seam lines, pocket stitches, button dots, and small patch embroidery after the jacket is already on the doll.
For the final expression, add tiny black mouth stitches at the corners of the lower beak. Add one or two white highlight stitches to each eye. Brush the stuffing into shape by gently rolling the head between your palms.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Store the doll upright or lying flat in a dry place. Avoid crushing the crest feathers, beak, and bag strap. If the beanie or accessories lose shape, reshape them gently with your fingers and let them rest flat overnight.
For long-term display, keep the piece away from strong sunlight to protect the red, blue, yellow, and green yarn colors. Dust lightly with a soft brush. If needed, use a barely damp cloth on the denim jacket and pants, then air dry fully.
When packing the doll, place tissue paper around the beak, crest, and feet. Store the tiny pot, watering can, and beanie in a small labeled pouch so the complete garden outfit set stays together.
