Create a cozy snowy woodland cottage diorama with a round winter base, stone cottage, glowing windows, snow-covered roof, frozen pond, skating hedgehogs, woodland animals, campfire, fence, pine tree, snowman, sled, chimney, and soft smoke puff. This detailed crochet scene is designed as a display piece with many small textured parts and layered winter details.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Finished Size
- Complete round diorama: about 15 in wide and 4 in tall at the base.
- Cottage: about 7 in wide, 6 in deep, and 8 in tall to the chimney top.
- Pond: about 6 in wide.
- Animals: about 1.5 to 3 in tall.
- Gauge is not critical, but tight stitches are important so stuffing and structure do not show.
Skill Level
This is an advanced beginner to intermediate crochet pattern. The stitches are simple, but the project has many small parts, shaping pieces, surface details, and assembly steps. Read each section before starting, and keep all pieces labeled as you work.
Materials
- Worsted weight yarn in white, off-white, stone gray, dark gray, light gray, taupe, tan, brown, dark brown, forest green, olive green, sky blue, orange, rust, black, red, cream, yellow, and small amounts of pink.
- 3.0 mm crochet hook for most amigurumi parts.
- 3.5 mm crochet hook for the round base, cottage walls, pond, and roof.
- Fiberfill stuffing.
- Cardboard, plastic canvas, or foam board for the cottage walls, roof, and round base support.
- Yarn needle, stitch markers, scissors, straight pins, and fabric glue if desired.
- Optional warm fairy lights for windows and snow fence lights.
- Optional clear plastic sheet or yellow felt for glowing window panes.
- Black safety eyes, 4 mm and 6 mm, or black embroidery yarn.

General Notes
Work amigurumi pieces in continuous rounds unless the instructions say to join. Use a stitch marker for the first stitch of each round. Stuff firmly but not so tightly that the crochet stretches open.
The cottage is built from flat crochet panels sewn over firm inserts. This gives the little house a straight wall shape like the image. The roof is crocheted as ribbed rectangles and folded over the cottage with thick white snowy edges.
For the most accurate look, sew pieces close together and slightly overlap snow, rocks, shrubs, animals, and fences. The image has a full winter diorama feeling, so small layered details matter.

Warm Window Light Detail
To create the glowing look, place yellow felt or warm fairy light bulbs behind the window panels before sewing the cottage walls together. If using lights, keep the battery pack under or behind the display base where it can be reached.
- Do not stitch through electrical wires.
- Use low-heat LED fairy lights only.
- Secure wires with loose yarn loops instead of tight stitches.
- Place one light behind the large front window, one behind the door area, one behind the right window, and one behind the gable window.
Cottage Assembly
- Place each crochet wall over its matching firm insert.
- Sew the side walls to the front wall with gray yarn, working through both panel edges.

- Add brown beam embroidery on the gable after the roof is attached so the lines meet the roof edge neatly.
Base Layout Placement
Place the cottage toward the back center of the white round base. The pond goes on the left front. The walkway begins at the door and curves forward. The campfire sits near the front center. The sled, fox, raccoon, snowman, and badger sit on the right side.
- Sew cottage to the base first with strong white or gray yarn.

- Sew hedgehogs onto the pond, facing each other.
- Sew sled and animals to the right side.
- Add squirrels around the campfire.

Facial Embroidery Guide
Use small, neat stitches for all faces. The animals are tiny, so oversized facial details can change the look quickly. Use black embroidery yarn split into fewer strands if your yarn is thick.
- Hedgehogs: black eyes, dark brown nose, small smile, beige cheeks.
- Fox: black eyes, cream muzzle, black nose, tiny smile.
- Raccoon: black mask band, black nose, gray ears, ringed tail.
- Badger: black head stripes, white center face, black ears.
- Squirrels: black eyes, tiny brown nose, simple straight mouth.
- Snowman: black eyes, dotted smile, orange carrot nose, black buttons.
Snow Texture Details
The image has soft snow resting on almost every outdoor detail. Add these touches after all pieces are sewn down. This keeps the white stitches visible and prevents them from being hidden during assembly.
- Add white stitches along the cottage roof edges.
- Add snow caps to fence posts.
- Add short white lines on pine tree layers.
- Add white knots on shrubs.
- Add uneven white chain stitches beside the walkway.
- Add tiny white bumps near pond stones and fire stones.
Optional Smoke Brushing
For the fluffy chimney smoke, brush the white smoke puff with a clean pet slicker brush or a firm comb. Brush gently in upward motions. Stop when the puff looks cloudy and soft, not frizzy.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing: Pin all pieces before sewing permanently. Make sure the cottage is centered, the pond is flat, and the animals face toward the scene. Sew with matching yarn and hide tails inside nearby crochet pieces.
Add final eyes, noses, mouths, buttons, and snow highlights last. Small details should be balanced and soft. The finished diorama should look cozy, full, and snowy from every viewing angle.
Care Notes
Care Notes: This crochet cottage diorama is a decorative display item. Keep it away from water, pets, and strong direct sunlight. If you use fairy lights, turn them off when not displaying the piece.

- Loose yarn tails are hidden securely.
- Final snow stitches are added evenly around the scene.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines: Dust the diorama with a soft dry brush. Do not machine wash. For small marks, dab gently with a barely damp cloth and let air dry fully. Store in a box with tissue paper around the roof, chimney, animals, and fence so small pieces do not bend.
