Pattern Notes
This giraffe is made as a small knitted soft toy with shaped pieces sewn together. The head is rounded and slightly wide, the neck is long and narrow, and the body is dressed with a separate sweater and striped pants. The facial expression is sleepy, with closed embroidered eyes and soft pink cheeks.
Use a firm gauge so the stuffing does not show through. Stuff gradually while shaping, especially inside the long neck and rounded face. The sweater, pants, shoes, bag, hat, bow, basket, and tiny notebook are all separate pieces so the finished set looks layered like the image.
The giraffe’s head is worked in tan and cream sections. The cream muzzle and face panel are made by picking up stitches or sewing on a separate shaped oval. The brown giraffe spots are duplicate stitched or lightly embroidered after stuffing, which keeps the face smooth.
Giraffe Head
Back and Sides of Head
Use warm tan yarn. Work in the round. The head should look like a softly rounded square with full cheeks, not a perfect ball. Stuff firmly but keep the face gentle and smooth.

Cream Face and Muzzle Panel
The face panel covers the lower front of the head and rises in a soft point between the eyes. It gives the giraffe the cream sleepy face seen in the image. Work flat in off white or warm cream.
- CO 8 sts.
- Row 1: p all sts.
- Row 2: kfb, k6, kfb. 10 sts.
- Row 3: p all sts.
- Row 4: kfb, k8, kfb. 12 sts.
- Row 5: p all sts.

- Row 21: p all sts.
- Row 22: ssk, k4, k2tog. 6 sts.
- BO loosely, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Pin this panel to the lower front of the head. The widest part should sit across the cheek area. The narrow top should reach between the eyes. Sew around the edge with small stitches, adding a very thin layer of stuffing under the lower muzzle only.
Small Nose Bridge Patch
The tan bridge patch sits above the cream muzzle and has little brown giraffe spots. It forms the center of the face and should taper gently toward the nose.
- With tan yarn, CO 6 sts.
- Row 1: p all sts.
- Row 2: kfb, k4, kfb. 8 sts.
- Rows 3-8: st st.
- Row 9: p2tog, p4, p2tog. 6 sts.
- Row 10: k all sts.
- BO, leaving a tail.
Sew the patch vertically on the upper center of the cream face, placing its lower edge about 3 rounds above the muzzle point. Duplicate stitch 5 small dark brown spots on this patch using 1 stitch or 2 stitch dots.
Long Giraffe Neck
The neck is slim and tall, matching the image. It is tan with scattered brown patches. Work tightly so the stuffing supports the head without wobbling.
- Using tan yarn, CO 16 sts. Join in the round.
- Rnds 1-4: *k1, p1; repeat from * around for ribbing at the top of the sweater line.
- Rnds 5-26: k all sts.
- Rnd 27: *k3, kfb; repeat from * around. 20 sts.
- Rnds 28-30: k all sts.
- BO, leaving a long tail for sewing to the body.
Stuff the neck firmly in small layers. Sew the live 16 sts from the head to the top of the neck using mattress stitch. Keep the head slightly tilted forward for the sleepy resting expression.
Neck Spots
- Use dark brown yarn and duplicate stitch irregular spots over the front and sides of the neck.
- Make 7 spots total: three large 3-stitch spots, two medium 2-stitch spots, and two small single-stitch spots.
- Place the largest spots on the front right and left sides so they show above the sweater collar.
Ears
The ears are oval, pale tan outside with soft pink centers. They sit low on each side of the head, angled outward and slightly upward.

Fold the lower edge of each ear slightly and sew with 3 small stitches to cup the shape. Attach ears to the head between rounds 16 and 20, about 15 sts apart across the face. Angle them outward so they frame the sleepy cheeks.
Ossicones
The small giraffe horns are tan at the base with dark brown tips. They peek above the headband bow in the image.
- Make 2. With dark brown yarn, CO 6 sts and join in the round.
- Rnds 1-3: k all sts.
- Change to tan yarn.
- Rnds 4-8: k all sts.
- Rnd 9: k2tog around. 3 sts.

Sew the ossicones on top of the head between rounds 7 and 11. Space them about 10 sts apart. Place the dark brown tips at the top and lean them slightly outward.
Body
The body is mostly hidden under the cream cable sweater, but it needs a stable shape. Work it in tan because the neck and hands are giraffe-colored. The body should be narrow at the shoulders and slightly wider at the hips.
- With tan yarn, CO 12 sts. Join in the round.
- Rnd 1: k all sts.
- Rnd 2: kfb in every st. 24 sts.

- Rnds 26-28: k all sts.
- BO, leaving a long tail.
Stuff the body firmly at the lower half and slightly less firmly at the shoulder line. Sew the neck to the top center of the body. The neck should sit forward by about 2 sts so the head tilts softly over the sweater.
Arms
The arms show cream sweater sleeves with dark brown hooves at the ends. They are short, rounded, and hang naturally beside the sweater.
Make 2 Arms
- With dark brown yarn, CO 8 sts. Join in the round.

Sew arms to the body at shoulder level under the sweater seam. Angle them slightly downward. The brown hoof tips should extend just past the sweater cuffs, matching the photo.
Legs
The legs are covered by blue and white striped pants, with tan ankles and brown shoes. The legs are slim and straight so the doll sits flat against a surface.
Make 2 Legs
- With dark brown yarn, CO 10 sts. Join in the round.
- Rnds 1-5: k all sts for the shoe toe.
- Rnd 6: k3, kfb, k2, kfb, k3. 12 sts.

Sew both legs to the lower body with a small gap between them. The striped pants should start just above the tan ankles. Use matching yarn to secure the upper thighs under the sweater hem.
Brown Shoes with Berry Details
The shoes in the image are dark brown with tan lace straps and small red berry decorations on the front. Add these details after the legs are attached.
- With tan yarn, embroider two crossing straps over each shoe using straight stitches from side to side.
- Wrap one tan stitch around the ankle line on each side to look like tied sandal laces.
- With red yarn, make two small French knots on the front outer side of each shoe.
- With green yarn, add one tiny V stitch above each pair of red knots for leaves.

Facial Embroidery
The face gives the toy its sleepy personality. Work slowly and use pins first. The eyes should be closed arcs, the mouth should be soft and centered, and the cheeks should be round pink patches.
- Eyes: Use black thread. Embroider one curved line over each eye area, about 7 sts wide. Place eyes across the upper cream face, 6 sts apart.
- Eyelashes: Add two tiny downward stitches at the outer end of each closed eye.
- Nose: Use tan-brown thread. Make a small inverted V at the lower center of the tan nose patch.

- Add one small spot near the base of each ossicone.

- Attach arms at the side seams of the sweater, with the brown hoof tips visible.
- Attach legs under the sweater hem, keeping the striped pants straight and even.
- Dress the doll in the cable sweater and arrange the bag strap diagonally across the chest.
- Sew the red headband in place behind the ears and secure the bow between the ossicones.
- Place the hat, basket, and notebook beside the giraffe for the complete display look.
Before finishing, check the balance of the face. The sleepy eyes should sit evenly, the blush should be soft and round, and the mouth should remain small. Add extra stuffing through hidden seams only if the head or neck needs more shape.
Care Notes
- Spot clean only with cool water and mild soap.
- Do not machine wash if you used a button, embroidered details, or delicate accessories.
- Let the toy air dry flat on a clean towel.
- Keep the doll away from rough surfaces that may snag the cable sweater or bow.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish

- The face has closed sleepy eyes, pink cheeks, a small nose, and a gentle mouth.
- The cream sweater has front cables, ribbed collar, cuffs, hem, and tiny flowers.
- The pants are narrow with blue and white horizontal stripes.
- The shoes are brown with tan straps and red berry details.
- The red headband has a large bow and white polka dots.
- The green bag crosses the chest and has a small button flap.
- The green hat has earflaps, ties, and a pom-pom.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
To preserve the knitted texture, gently remove dust with a soft dry brush. For small stains, dab with a damp cloth instead of rubbing. Keep the cable sweater flat while drying so the front pattern stays raised and neat.
Store the doll in a dry place away from direct sunlight. If storing for a long time, wrap the headband bow and hat loosely in tissue so the shapes do not flatten. Keep the tiny basket and notebook in a small pouch to prevent loss.
If the bag strap stretches, lightly steam it from a distance and let it dry flat before placing it back on the doll. Do not press the pom-pom, cheeks, embroidered eyes, or cable panels with an iron.
