Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Pattern Overview

This pattern is worked mostly in the round using double-pointed needles or the magic loop method. Small flat pieces are seamed, embroidered, and attached afterward. The finished tiger is designed to sit upright, with a large baby-style head, short body, rounded paws, and layered artist accessories.

  • Finished size: about 10.5 inches tall seated, using DK yarn and US size 3 needles.
  • Skill level: confident beginner to intermediate.
  • Construction: head, muzzle, body, arms, legs, ears, tail, cardigan, bag, pacifier, flowers, art tools, and canvas are knitted separately.
  • Main style: soft toy knitting with embroidery and small decorative appliques.

Materials

  • DK weight yarn in tiger orange, warm cream, black, dusty pink, sage green, oatmeal beige, light blue, purple, tan brown, olive green, yellow, red, navy, white, gray, and small scraps of flower colors.
  • US size 3 knitting needles, or size needed to create a firm toy fabric.
  • US size 2 needles for small flowers, pacifier ring, brush tips, and cardigan trim.
  • Two 16 mm black safety eyes with blue felt or knitted blue eye rings.
  • Fiberfill stuffing.
  • Tapestry needle, stitch markers, row counter, pins, and scissors.
  • Four small brown buttons, about 8 mm wide, for the cardigan front.
  • Optional clear craft glue for securing tiny embroidered knots.

Gauge

Gauge: 24 stitches and 34 rounds = 4 inches in stockinette stitch before stuffing. Gauge does not need to be exact, but the fabric must be tight enough that stuffing does not show through. Use smaller needles if your stitches look loose.

Color Placement Notes

The tiger’s head is mostly orange on top and cream on the lower cheeks. The cream area forms a soft oval mask around the muzzle and lower face. Black stripes are embroidered after knitting so the curves match the photo: a bold M stripe on the forehead, side cheek stripes, and short brow stripes.

The cardigan is sage green on the sleeves and upper yoke, cream on the lower body, and decorated with simple duplicate-stitch flowers. A tan shoulder strap crosses diagonally from the tiger’s right shoulder to the left hip. The small hanging bag sits on the tiger’s left side.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Keep the knitted tiger away from direct sunlight for long periods, especially the orange yarn, blue eye rings, and embroidered flowers. Store it upright in a dry place where the ears, pacifier, and flower crown will not be crushed.

For dust removal, use a soft dry brush and work gently around the cardigan flowers, buttons, and bag. If the toy needs deeper cleaning, dab only the stained area with a damp cloth. Avoid soaking the canvas, easel, buttons, and small sewn decorations.

When storing the full display, wrap the pencil, beret, and easel separately in tissue paper. This helps preserve the tiny knitted shapes and prevents the small accessories from pressing marks into the tiger’s body or cardigan.
