Finished Size and Construction

The finished cat measures approximately 17 inches tall from the bottom of the sandals to the tips of the ears. The head is approximately 5 inches wide, the body is 7 inches long, and the finished tail measures about 7 inches.

The cat is knitted mainly in the round. The overalls, sandals, bow, hat, bag, hose, seed packets, pinecones, and decorative pieces are knitted separately and attached during final assembly.

Gauge

Using US size 3 needles in stockinette stitch, 24 stitches and 32 rounds should measure 4 inches after the fabric is relaxed. Gauge is important because the overalls, shoes, hat, and accessories are sized to fit the completed cat.

The fabric should be dense enough to prevent stuffing from showing. Change to smaller needles when loose gaps appear between stitches.

Care Notes

Spot-clean the cat with cool water and a small amount of mild detergent. Do not twist, bleach, or machine-dry the finished toy. Press excess moisture between clean towels and reshape every section before air-drying.

Remove the sun hat, tool bag, hose, and seed packets before cleaning. Keep plastic safety eyes and embroidered decorations away from direct heat.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • Both ears are securely attached at matching angles.
  • The white blaze is centered between the eyes.
  • The blue eyes are level and firmly locked.
  • The cheeks, nose, mouth, eyelashes, and whiskers are complete.
  • The overalls fit smoothly without twisting.
  • All flowers, tools, bee details, and watering-can embroidery are secured.
  • The sandals fit snugly and both daisies face outward.
  • The hat brim lies evenly around the crown.
  • The crossbody strap rests over the correct shoulder.
  • All loose yarn tails have been woven into hidden seams.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Store the cat in a dry area away from strong sunlight, humidity, smoke, and dust. Long exposure to sunlight may fade the orange, sage, blue, and pink yarns.

Use a soft brush or lint roller to remove surface dust. Support the head, ears, tail, and accessories when moving the toy so the sewn joints are not stretched.

After cleaning, allow the cat and every accessory to dry completely before storage. Place acid-free tissue inside the hat and tool bag to preserve their shapes. Avoid sealing the toy in plastic while any moisture remains.
