Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This pattern is worked primarily in continuous spiral rounds using US crochet terminology. The reindeer is assembled from separate crocheted components so the proportions, facial shape, clothing, antlers, and woodland accessories can be positioned carefully.
- Skill level: Intermediate amigurumi
- Finished height: Approximately 13.5 inches or 34 cm, excluding the tallest antler tips
- Finished width: Approximately 6.5 inches or 16.5 cm across the head
- Construction: Legs and torso are joined as one piece; head, arms, ears, antlers, clothing, and accessories are made separately
- Working method: Continuous rounds unless rows are specifically indicated

US Crochet Abbreviations
- MR: Magic ring

- hdc: Half double crochet
- dc: Double crochet
- inc: Work 2 sc in the same stitch
- dec: Invisible single crochet decrease over the next 2 stitches

Gauge and Tension
Using a 2.75 mm hook, 22 single crochet stitches and 24 rounds should measure approximately 4 inches or 10 cm. Exact gauge is less important than maintaining firm, even stitches that prevent the stuffing from showing.
Use the same yarn weight and hook throughout the doll. A noticeably looser tension will produce a larger reindeer and may make the fitted vest, scarf, shoes, and hat too small.
Important Pattern Notes
- Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of every spiral round.
- Stuff gradually rather than waiting until the final round.
- Keep the muzzle softly stuffed so it remains broad and rounded instead of becoming spherical.
- Do not overstuff the arms, antlers, ears, or clothing.
- Change colors in the final yarn-over of the stitch immediately before the new color begins.
- Leave long sewing tails on every separate component.
- Check the position of all facial pieces with pins before sewing.

Second Leg
Repeat R1-R21 of the first leg. Do not fasten off after completing R21. Rotate both legs so the shoe toes face forward and the final stitches face the inner back edges.

Insert the safety eyes between R17 and R18. Place them 8 visible stitches apart. Before attaching the backs, pin the muzzle in position to confirm that the eyes remain visible directly above its upper edge.
Stuff the head firmly, especially around the outer cheeks and crown. Leave a shallow indentation in the lower center where the muzzle will sit. Fasten off with a long tail.
Large Cream Muzzle
The muzzle is a broad stuffed oval that covers most of the lower face. Work around both sides of a foundation chain.
- R1: With cream, ch 14. Beginning in the second ch from the hook, work 12 sc, 3 sc in the final ch, 11 sc along the opposite side, and 2 sc in the first ch. 28 sts

- R4: Work 2 sc, inc, 11 sc, repeat 2 sc, inc three times, 11 sc, then repeat 2 sc, inc twice. 46 sts
- R5-R6: Sc in each st around. 46 sts
Fasten off with a long tail. Place a thin layer of stuffing inside the muzzle. Pin it horizontally over R18-R27 of the head, with the top edge sitting immediately beneath the eyes.
Sew the upper and side edges first. Add more stuffing through the lower opening, then finish sewing. Keep the muzzle approximately 5 inches or 12.5 cm wide and 2.5 inches or 6.5 cm tall.
Center Mouth Line
Thread dark brown yarn through the center underside of the red nose. Bring it downward across the cream muzzle and insert it at the lower center edge. Repeat once to make a neat vertical line.
Add two short diagonal stitches at the bottom of the vertical line to create a subtle smiling mouth. Each diagonal stitch should extend approximately 0.25 inch or 6 mm.
Red Nose
Work around a foundation chain to create the wide oval nose shown in the image.
- R1: With red, ch 7. Beginning in the second ch, work 5 sc, 3 sc in the final ch, 4 sc along the opposite side, and 2 sc in the first ch. 14 sts

Eyebrows and Forehead Detail
Using dark brown yarn, embroider one short eyebrow above each eye. Angle the inner ends slightly downward to create the gentle woodland expression.
Embroider one narrow vertical line from the crown toward the center forehead, ending approximately 1 inch or 2.5 cm above the eyes. Add two short diagonal lines on each side of the forehead as subtle fur markings.

Trim the fringe evenly to approximately 1.25 inches or 3 cm. Wrap the scarf once around the neck and allow both ends to hang over the front of the body.

Continue attaching scales in staggered spirals around the pinecone body. Space the scales approximately one round apart until the surface is covered.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
- Pin the head to the torso with the face centered above the cream shirt.
- Sew around the neck opening twice using the long torso tail.
- Position the arms between R44 and R48 of the torso.
- Angle each arm approximately 15 degrees downward.
- Sew through the flattened upper arm edges and the torso several times.
- Dress the reindeer in the green vest before wrapping the scarf.
- Place the scarf loosely around the neck without covering the muzzle.
- Check that both antlers are balanced and that the ears remain visible.
- Add a small white embroidery highlight to the upper left side of each eye.
- Brush a small amount of pink blush over the crocheted cheek circles if a softer shaded finish is desired.
For the photographed arrangement, place the green hat beside the reindeer rather than over the antlers. Position the satchel on the opposite side and arrange the two loose acorns and pinecone near the shoes.
Care Notes
Spot-clean the finished reindeer with cool water, mild soap, and a soft cloth. Avoid soaking wooden buttons, safety eyes, wire-supported antlers, or glued mushroom spots.
Allow every part to air-dry completely. Reshape the muzzle, hat brim, antlers, scarf fringe, and vest while they are still slightly damp.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- Both eyes are level and equally spaced.
- The red nose is centered over the muzzle.
- The mouth line is straight beneath the nose.
- The ears and antlers are securely attached.
- The arms sit at the same height.
- The shoes face forward when the doll is seated or displayed.
- The vest hangs evenly on both sides of the torso.
- The scarf stripes and fringe are neat.
- The satchel strap is firmly attached.
- All loose yarn tails are woven inside the pieces.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Remove the scarf, vest, hat, satchel, acorns, and pinecone before cleaning the main doll. Place removable accessories in a labeled cotton bag so the small pieces are not lost.
Use a lint roller on the lowest pressure setting to remove surface dust. For narrow areas around the antlers, ears, buttons, and mushroom decorations, use a clean soft-bristled paintbrush.
Store the reindeer upright in a dry location away from direct sunlight. Long exposure to strong light may fade the green, pink, red, and golden-brown yarns.
Do not compress the doll beneath heavy objects. Support the antlers with acid-free tissue paper during long-term storage and lay the hat brim flat to prevent permanent curling.
