Paper Daisy Linen-Post Bunny – Knitting

Paper Daisy Linen-Post Bunny – Knitting

This soft bunny doll is dressed like a tiny heirloom companion, with a daisy-trim skirt, a neat cream cardigan, a newsboy-style cap, warm brown shoes, and sweet countryside accessories. If you love collectible knitted animals, handmade nursery decor, spring bunny dolls, and giftable soft toys for an Easter basket or baby shower, this design is a lovely make. The finished set also includes a little lamb friend, a shoulder bag, a letter-style purse, and a small daisy bouquet, giving the whole project a charming boutique look that feels thoughtful and special.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Materials

  • Light fingering or fine sport weight yarn in soft linen beige for the bunny head, body, ears, arms, upper legs, bag, and envelope
  • Fine yarn in cream for the cardigan, undershirt, and lamb jacket
  • Fine yarn in mushroom taupe for the skirt, cap, bunny mitten-hands, and lamb cap
  • Fine yarn in warm medium brown for the bunny shoes
  • Fine yarn in white for daisy petals and the lamb body
  • Fine yarn in charcoal gray for the lamb head, ears, arms, and legs
  • Fine yarn in soft green for bouquet stems
  • Small amount of blush pink or dusty rose for the wax seal on the envelope
  • Small amount of golden yellow for daisy centers
  • Double-pointed needles or magic loop needles suitable for your yarn
  • Suggested sizes: US 1.5 to US 2.5 for firm fabric
  • Tapestry needle
  • Locking stitch markers
  • Small sharp scissors
  • Toy stuffing
  • Thin cardboard or plastic canvas scrap for the bag base if you want extra structure
  • One very small button for the cardigan front
  • Black embroidery floss or very fine black yarn for facial details

Yarn and Gauge Notes

Work all parts at a firm gauge so the stuffing does not show through. The toy in the image has very smooth stockinette with crisp shaping, so choose needles slightly smaller than you normally would for the yarn.

A practical gauge for the doll is about 8 to 9 stitches per inch in stockinette after light blocking. Exact gauge is less important than keeping the fabric dense and keeping all pieces in scale with one another.

If your knitting is loose, go down a needle size. If your fabric feels stiff but even, that is usually perfect for knitted toys like this.

Finished Size

  • Main bunny: about 11 to 12 inches tall from feet to top of cap
  • Lamb friend: about 4 inches tall
  • Bag: about 2 inches wide
  • Envelope purse: about 2 inches wide
  • Bouquet: about 2 inches long

Construction Overview

The bunny is made from separate knitted pieces and sewn together. The head is round and slightly wider than the torso. The muzzle is softly shaped with horizontal width, and the nose sits low and centered.

The ears are long, flat, and gently rounded at the ends. They fall downward from under the cap rather than standing up. The arms are medium length and slightly tapered. The legs are short in visible proportion because the skirt covers the upper section.

The outfit is built in layers. First make the bunny. Then knit the skirt, undershirt front, cardigan, cap, and accessories. The daisies are added separately so the floral placement stays true to the photographed look.

Main Bunny Body

Legs Make 2

Begin with the brown shoe section.

  1. CO 12 sts in brown.
  2. Work 4 rows in st st, beginning with a purl row.
  3. Shape the foot: Row 1: k1, kfb, k8, kfb, k1. 14 sts.
  4. Row 2: p all.
  5. Row 3: k all.
  6. Row 4: p all.
  7. Row 5: k1, ssk, k8, k2tog, k1. 12 sts.
  8. Work 2 more rows in st st.
  9. Change to linen beige for the leg.
  10. Work 10 rows in st st.
  11. Shape top of leg gently: Row 1: k2tog, k8, ssk. 10 sts.
  12. Work 1 purl row.
  13. Leave sts on holder.

Make the second leg the same. These legs are short and compact so the doll keeps the stout, childlike proportion seen in the image.

Torso

  1. Place both legs on one needle, joining with 2 sts cast on between them. 22 sts.
  2. Work 2 rows in st st.
  3. Row 3: k all, increasing 4 sts evenly across. 26 sts.
  4. Work 8 rows in st st.
  5. Row 12: increase 4 sts evenly across. 30 sts.
  6. Work 10 rows in st st.
  7. Shape waist and chest: Row 1: k3, k2tog, k20, ssk, k3. 28 sts.
  8. Work 3 rows even.
  9. Next row: k3, k2tog, k18, ssk, k3. 26 sts.
  10. Work 5 rows even.
  11. Shape shoulders slightly: k2, k2tog, k18, ssk, k2. 24 sts.
  12. Work 1 purl row.
  13. BO all sts.

Make a second torso piece to form front and back, or use one flat front and one flat back identical in shape. Sew side seams later, leaving the neck edge open for attaching the head.

Head

The head is the most important shape in the design. It is round at the crown, broad through the cheeks, and a little flatter at the face than at the back. Knit two matching head pieces flat.

  1. CO 14 sts in linen beige.
  2. Row 1 RS: k all.
  3. Row 2: p all.
  4. Row 3: k1, kfb, to last 1 st, kfb, k1. 16 sts.
  5. Row 4: p all.
  6. Row 5: k1, kfb, to last 1 st, kfb, k1. 18 sts.
  7. Continue increasing in this way on every RS row until you have 30 sts.
  8. Work 16 rows even in st st.
  9. Begin decreases: Row 1 RS: k1, ssk, to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.
  10. Row 2: p all.
  11. Rep these 2 rows until 14 sts remain.
  12. Work 1 row even.
  13. BO.

Sew the head pieces together, leaving the lower edge open. Stuff firmly but smoothly. The face must look rounded, not lumpy, so add stuffing in tiny bits. Shape the cheeks with your fingers as you fill.

Muzzle Shaping

Thread a long strand of matching yarn on a tapestry needle. Enter at the lower neck opening and bring the needle out at one side of the muzzle area. Take a small horizontal stitch across the opposite side and pull gently.

This draws the muzzle forward and creates the soft, rounded nose bridge visible in the image. Repeat once more slightly lower. Do not pull too tightly. The face should remain calm and plush, not pinched.

Ears Make 2

  1. CO 8 sts in linen beige.
  2. Work 20 rows in st st.
  3. Shape tip: Row 1: k1, ssk, k2, k2tog, k1. 6 sts.
  4. Row 2: p all.
  5. Row 3: k1, ssk, k2tog, k1. 4 sts.
  6. Row 4: p all.
  7. Row 5: k2tog twice. 2 sts.
  8. BO.

Make a second piece for each ear if you want extra thickness, or fold each ear lengthwise with the edges slightly offset and seam around. Lightly stuff only at the base. The ears in the image hang softly and stay flat.

Arms Make 2

  1. CO 8 sts in taupe for the mitten-like hand.
  2. Work 4 rows in st st.
  3. Change to linen beige.
  4. Increase 2 sts evenly across next RS row. 10 sts.
  5. Work 14 rows in st st.
  6. Shape top: k1, ssk, k4, k2tog, k1. 8 sts.
  7. Purl 1 row.
  8. Knit 1 row.
  9. BO all sts.

Make a second matching piece for each arm, sew, stuff lightly, and flatten the top edge before attaching. The arms should sit low on the body and angle slightly downward.

Body Assembly Before Clothing

  1. Sew and stuff the body.
  2. Sew and stuff the head.
  3. Attach the head to the neck opening with small firm stitches.
  4. Sew ears to the sides of the head, set a little behind the center line so they fall neatly beneath the cap.
  5. Attach arms level with the upper body, slightly below the neckline.

At this stage the bunny should stand about 10 inches tall without the cap. The silhouette should be compact, gentle, and slightly wider at the head than at the chest.

Facial Features

Use black embroidery floss or very fine black yarn.

  • Eyes: place two small vertical eye stitches about 7 to 8 rows below the crown seam and spaced evenly on either side of center
  • Nose: embroider a small inverted Y shape low on the muzzle
  • Mouth: extend one short stitch downward, then split into two tiny angled stitches

The face in the image is minimal and refined. Keep the expression soft. Avoid large safety eyes or heavy embroidery. Small stitches are what give this bunny its quiet, handmade character.

Undershirt Insert

This little white section peeks out beneath the cardigan opening.

  1. CO 10 sts in cream or white.
  2. Work 10 rows in 1×1 rib.
  3. BO loosely.

Stitch this narrow panel vertically to the center front of the body before dressing the bunny in the cardigan.

Skirt

The skirt is taupe with a line of daisies around the lower half and a fuller shape than the torso. It should sit around the waist and flare gently over the legs.

  1. CO 56 sts in taupe.
  2. Join if working in the round, or work flat and seam later.
  3. Work 4 rows in garter or seed-textured hem if desired, though a plain st st hem also suits the image.
  4. Continue in st st for 18 rows.
  5. Decrease round or row: k6, k2tog around. 49 sts.
  6. Work 4 rows even.
  7. Decrease round or row: k5, k2tog around. About 42 sts.
  8. Work 4 rows even.
  9. Decrease evenly to 36 sts.
  10. Work 3 rows in 1×1 rib for waistband.
  11. BO loosely.

📌Thank you for reading the article

Sew the skirt around the bunny’s waist so the floral motif will sit on the lower half, not right at the hem edge. Leave just enough volume for a rounded drape.

Daisies on the Skirt

Make 12 to 14 tiny daisies depending on your preferred spacing. In the image, the daisies are placed in a gentle ring with an extra floral line near the hem. You can sew them on individually for the most accurate result.

For each daisy:

  1. With white yarn, CO 12 sts.
  2. BO all sts.
  3. Roll the chain into a six-petal rosette, tacking the center.
  4. Use yellow yarn to make a tiny center knot or satin stitch.

Alternatively, embroider lazy-daisy petals directly onto the skirt. Place medium daisies around the center area and smaller daisies near the hem. Keep spacing even so the print looks balanced and tailored.

Cardigan

The cardigan is cream, hip length, with simple cuffs, straight sleeves, a rounded neckline, and two tiny daisy pocket details. It closes with one small button near the top.

Back

  1. CO 24 sts in cream.
  2. Work 4 rows in 1×1 rib.
  3. Continue in st st for 20 rows.
  4. Shape armholes: BO 2 sts at beginning of next 2 rows. 20 sts.
  5. Work 10 rows even.
  6. Shape shoulders: BO 5 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.
  7. BO remaining 10 sts.

Left Front

  1. CO 14 sts in cream.
  2. Work 4 rows in 1×1 rib.
  3. Maintain 3 edge sts at front opening in garter for button band, work remainder in st st.
  4. Work 20 rows.
  5. Shape armhole at side edge: BO 2 sts once. 12 sts.
  6. Work 6 rows even.
  7. Shape neck: BO 3 sts at front edge once, then dec 1 st at neck edge every RS row 3 times. 6 sts.
  8. Work 3 rows even.
  9. BO shoulder sts.

Right Front

Work to match left front, reversing shaping. Add one buttonhole on the band about 4 rows below the neckline by working k1, yo, k2tog across the band area if desired.

Sleeves Make 2

  1. CO 14 sts in cream.
  2. Work 4 rows in 1×1 rib.
  3. Continue in st st for 14 rows.
  4. Increase 1 st each side every 6th row twice. 18 sts.
  5. Work 4 rows even.
  6. BO.

Cardigan Finishing

  1. Sew shoulder seams.
  2. Set in sleeves.
  3. Sew side and sleeve seams.
  4. Add a tiny button near the top front.

For the pocket look, embroider or attach one small daisy near the lower outer corner of each front panel. These flowers should be smaller than the skirt daisies.

Cap

The hat is a soft taupe newsboy-style cap with a short curved brim and a white daisy on the right front side. The crown looks gently gathered rather than tight.

Crown

  1. CO 56 sts in taupe.
  2. Join for working in the round, or work flat and seam later.
  3. Work 10 rounds in 2×2 rib.
  4. Switch to st st and increase 8 sts evenly. 64 sts.
  5. Work 12 rounds even.
  6. Decrease round: k6, k2tog around. 56 sts.
  7. Work 1 round even.
  8. Decrease round: k5, k2tog around. 49 sts.
  9. Work 1 round even.
  10. Decrease round: k4, k2tog around. 42 sts.
  11. Continue decreasing in this manner every other round until 14 sts remain.
  12. Thread yarn through remaining sts and pull closed.

Brim

  1. CO 18 sts in taupe.
  2. Work 2 rows garter.
  3. Row 3: k1, kfb, knit to last 1 st, kfb, k1. 20 sts.
  4. Work 4 rows st st.
  5. Row 8: k1, ssk, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. 18 sts.
  6. Work 2 rows garter.
  7. BO.

Sew the brim to the lower front edge of the cap. Lightly pad it with a tiny strip of felt if you want the same crisp forward shape shown in the image.

Cap Daisy

Make one small white daisy with a yellow center and sew it to the right side of the cap, just above the brim.

Shoulder Bag

The bag is rectangular with a flap and a short shoulder strap. It is the same linen shade as the bunny and has a tiny brown closure detail.

  1. CO 18 sts in linen beige.
  2. Work 24 rows in st st for the body.
  3. Fold so the lower section forms the bag front and back, with the extra length becoming the flap.
  4. For the flap point, center 8 sts and decrease 1 st each side every RS row until 4 sts remain.
  5. BO.

Make a second matching rectangle for lining thickness if desired, or simply seam the sides of the folded bag. Knit an i-cord or narrow strap about 10 inches long and sew to the side edges.

Use a tiny brown stitched loop or embroidered knot as the clasp.

Envelope Purse

This tiny cream envelope sits on the table and has a rosy wax seal. It is very small but adds a lot of charm.

  1. CO 14 sts in cream.
  2. Work 10 rows in st st.
  3. For flap shaping, work to center, then decrease 1 st each side every RS row until a triangle forms.
  4. BO.
  5. Fold lower edge upward and seam sides.

Embroider or sew a small pink circle at the flap tip to resemble a wax seal.

Daisy Bouquet

Make 5 small daisies. Each flower needs a white petal cluster, a yellow center, and a green stem.

  1. For each flower, make a tiny white six-petal piece.
  2. Add a yellow center knot.
  3. Twist green yarn tightly for the stem.
  4. Bundle the finished flowers together and wrap with green yarn.

Keep the bouquet slightly irregular so it looks hand gathered rather than factory perfect.

Lamb Friend

The little lamb echoes the bunny’s outfit. It has a gray face and limbs, a white textured body, a cream cardigan, and a taupe cap.

  3. BO.

Lamb Arms and Legs

  • Arms: CO 4 sts in gray, work 8 rows st st, BO
  • Legs: CO 5 sts in gray, work 10 rows st st, BO

Sew the lamb together, stuff lightly, and attach the head slightly forward. Add tiny black eye stitches and a very small nose.

Lamb Jacket

Make a tiny cream jacket from one back piece, two fronts, and two sleeves using the same cardigan method as the bunny, but at about half scale.

Lamb Cap

Knit a miniature taupe cap with a small flat brim. It should sit low and slightly tilted, matching the styling in the image.

Detailed Assembly Order

  1. Complete the bunny body and head first.
  2. Add facial shaping and embroidery before attaching the cap.
  3. Dress the bunny with the white undershirt panel.
  4. Sew the skirt around the waist.
  5. Dress the bunny in the cardigan and stitch it closed invisibly at the shoulders if needed.
  6. Add the button.
  7. Fit the cap and tack it in place.
  8. Sew the cap daisy.
  9. Place the bunny so the shoes angle slightly outward.
  10. Complete the lamb and dress it.
  11. Finish the bag, envelope purse, and bouquet.

Color Placement Notes

  • Bunny head, ears, upper arms, upper legs, and bag are pale linen beige
  • Hands, skirt, and cap are mushroom taupe
  • Cardigan and undershirt are cream
  • Shoes are warm brown
  • Daisy petals are white with golden centers
  • Lamb face and limbs are charcoal gray
  • Lamb body is white
  • Lamb cardigan is cream and lamb cap is taupe

Fit and Proportion Notes

The head should appear wider than the neck and slightly wider than the upper torso. The cardigan ends just below the waist. The skirt falls to just above the shoes. The cap is generous and softly slouched at the crown.

The bunny’s ears must remain visible beneath the cap and fall along the sides of the face. This is one of the details that makes the finished doll match the image closely.

The lamb should reach roughly to the bunny’s knee area. Keep it tiny and compact so it reads clearly as a companion accessory, not a second full-size toy.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Check the balance before securing everything permanently. The face should be centered, calm, and symmetrical. Adjust the ears so they hang evenly. Place the cap a little forward on the forehead, then sew the daisy on the right side.

Add the cardigan button last. If needed, tack the cardigan hem and skirt lightly to the body so the clothes always sit neatly.

Care Notes

Spot clean whenever possible. If deeper cleaning is needed, hand wash gently in cool water with a mild wool-safe cleanser. Reshape all pieces while damp and dry flat away from direct heat or harsh sunlight.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • Face centered and expression soft
  • Ears even and visible under cap
  • Skirt daisies spaced neatly
  • Cardigan button secure
  • Cap brim stitched firmly
  • Lamb sized smaller than bunny knee height
  • Bag, envelope, and bouquet completed
  • Loose yarn tails fully woven in

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Store the finished set in a dry, clean place. Do not hang the bunny by the bag strap or by one arm. Keep dark accessories away from damp white areas to avoid color transfer. For long-term display, occasional light dusting with clean dry hands or a soft brush is usually enough.
