Tulip Ticket Bunny – Knitting

Tulip Ticket Bunny – Knitting

This knitted bunny set is designed as a soft spring heirloom with a charming storybook look. The finished piece includes a dressed rabbit, tulip hat, cardigan, petal overskirt, shoes, ticket tag, tiny duck, miniature carousel, and a small tulip bouquet. It is ideal for knitters who love collectible knitted animals, handmade nursery decor, artisan doll outfits, and giftable stuffed bunny projects. The shapes are gentle and sweet, while the details give the finished set the look of a boutique knitted rabbit doll you might search for in a handmade toy shop.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Materials

  • Main bunny yarn: light beige or warm oatmeal DK yarn for the head, ears, arms, and legs.
  • Dress yarns: very pale blush, dusty rose, and deeper berry rose DK yarn.
  • Cardigan and shoes: muted lavender-mauve DK yarn.
  • Hat: dusty rose DK yarn, plus scraps of leaf green and tulip pink for the flower embroidery.
  • Small accessories: pastel yellow, peach, cream, blue, green, pink, lavender, and rose scraps.
  • Needles: 2.75 mm and 3 mm straight or double-pointed needles, depending on your preferred method.
  • Notions: stitch markers, tapestry needle, sewing needle, pins, small sharp scissors, and row counter.
  • Stuffing: soft toy stuffing.
  • Facial details: black safety eyes or embroidered black eyes, pink embroidery floss for the nose and mouth.
  • Optional support: a little extra stuffing pellets or weighted filling for the base of the body.

Finished Size

Using DK yarn and a firm gauge, the bunny stands about 11 to 12 inches tall from foot base to the top of the head, not including the hat bow. The duck stands about 2 inches tall. The carousel is about 2 inches high. The tulip bouquet is about 2 1/2 inches long. The ticket is about 1 3/4 inches wide.

Gauge and Fabric Notes

The fabric in the image is smooth, even, and firmly knitted, with very little stitch gap. Work at a tight gauge so the stuffing does not show through. If your fabric feels loose, go down a needle size.

Suggested gauge: about 26 to 28 stitches and 36 rows over 4 inches in stockinette stitch with DK yarn. Exact gauge is less important than achieving a dense, neat fabric and keeping all proportions consistent across the set.

Construction Overview

The bunny is worked in separate pieces and then assembled. The body is a simple stuffed form with a full skirt built over it. The head is rounded and slightly larger than the torso, giving the doll its gentle childlike proportion.

The ears are long, soft, and lightly stuffed only at the upper base so they fall naturally down the sides of the face. The dress is made in layers so the petal overskirt sits clearly over the deeper rose underskirt. The cardigan is short, curved, and embroidered with small tulips. The hat is rounded with a folded brim, stitched bow, and tulip motifs to match the skirt.

Bunny Legs

Make 2 in light beige.

  1. CO 12 sts.
  2. Work 2 rows in garter stitch.
  3. Next row: kfb, knit to last stitch, kfb. 14 sts.
  4. Purl 1 row.
  5. Next row: kfb, knit to last stitch, kfb. 16 sts.
  6. Work 14 rows in stockinette, beginning with a purl row.
  7. Shape ankle: k2tog, knit to last 2 sts, ssk. 14 sts.
  8. Purl 1 row.
  9. Repeat the decrease row once more. 12 sts.
  10. Work 10 more rows in stockinette.

Stuff the foot area firmly and the leg lightly. BO, leaving a long tail. Seam each leg neatly. Shape the lower foot so it has a softly flattened base, not a pointed end. The feet in the image are slim and only lightly wider than the ankles.

  5. Decrease row: k2tog, knit to last 2 sts, ssk. 10 sts.
  6. Work 4 rows stockinette.
  7. BO.

Seam and stuff lightly. Keep the hands soft and tapered. The arms in the image are narrow and hang straight down from the cardigan sleeves without a lot of bend. Do not overstuff or they will look bulky.

Body

Work the body in pale blush from the upper chest down into the underskirt base.

  1. CO 24 sts.
  2. Work 6 rows stockinette.
  3. Increase row: kfb at each end. 26 sts.

  10. Work 3 rows even.
  11. Repeat waist shaping once. 26 sts.
  12. Work 4 rows even.

Change to deeper rose for the lower underskirt portion. This change should sit under the petal overskirt later, so keep the join neat.

  1. Work 12 rows stockinette in deeper rose.
  2. Work 3 rows garter stitch for the lower edge.
  3. BO loosely.

Seam the body and stuff firmly at the lower section, a little more softly near the chest. The silhouette should be slightly conical, with the widest part at the skirt base. The upper torso should remain narrow so the cardigan sits close.

Head

Make 2 head side pieces in light beige, then seam and stuff, or work one larger flat head piece if that is your preference. The image shows a very round face with a smooth center front and only gentle contour, so avoid strong muzzle shaping.

Flat head option, make 2:

  1. CO 14 sts.
  2. Purl 1 row.
  3. Inc row: kfb, knit to last stitch, kfb. 16 sts.
  4. Purl 1 row.
  5. Inc row: kfb, knit to last stitch, kfb. 18 sts.
  6. Purl 1 row.
  7. Inc row: kfb, knit to last stitch, kfb. 20 sts.
  8. Purl 1 row.
  9. Inc row: kfb, knit to last stitch, kfb. 22 sts.
  10. Work 10 rows stockinette.
  11. Dec row: k2tog, knit to last 2 sts, ssk. 20 sts.
  12. Purl 1 row.
  13. Repeat the decrease row 4 more times until 12 sts remain.
  14. BO.

Seam around, leaving the lower neck edge open. Stuff very firmly so the head stays round and smooth. Pay special attention to the cheek area. The face in the image is broad, softly puffed, and symmetrical, with the nose placed low in the center.

Ears

Make 2 in light beige.

  1. CO 8 sts.
  2. Purl 1 row.
  3. Inc row: kfb, knit to last stitch, kfb. 10 sts.
  4. Purl 1 row.
  5. Inc row: kfb, knit to last stitch, kfb. 12 sts.
  6. Purl 1 row.
  7. Inc row: kfb, knit to last stitch, kfb. 14 sts.
  8. Work 18 rows stockinette.
  9. Shape tip: k2tog, knit to last 2 sts, ssk. 12 sts.
  10. Purl 1 row.
  11. Repeat decrease every RS row until 6 sts remain.
  12. BO.

Fold and seam each ear. Stuff only the top inch very lightly, leaving the rest flat. Stitch them to the head so they drop from slightly behind the hat brim line and frame the cheeks. In the image, the ears hang almost straight down and reach below the jawline.

Joining Head, Body, Arms, and Legs

Attach the legs close together under the body so the bunny stands centered beneath the full skirt. The visible lower legs are straight and evenly spaced. Sew the head firmly to the body with several passes of thread so it does not wobble.

Attach the arms high on the sides of the body, just under the cardigan shoulder line. Angle them slightly inward so the hands rest close to the skirt instead of flaring out. Check the silhouette from the front before finishing all seams.

Dress Bodice

The dress bodice is pale blush with a tiny cream collar at the neckline and a deeper rose waistband. It should fit closely over the body without bulk.

Bodice front and back can be worked as one simple wrap piece:

  1. In pale blush, CO 30 sts.
  2. Work 2 rows garter stitch.
  3. Work 10 rows stockinette.
  4. Change to deeper rose and work 2 rows garter stitch to create the waistband.
  5. BO.

Wrap around the upper body and seam at the back. The waistband should sit clearly above the layered overskirt. Keep the top neckline smooth so the small cream collar can be added cleanly.

Collar

Make the collar in cream. The collar in the image is tiny, neat, and softly rounded, not oversized or ruffled.

  1. CO 18 sts.
  2. Work 2 rows garter stitch.
  3. Row 3: k2, kfb, knit to last 3 sts, kfb, k2.
  4. Work 2 more rows garter stitch.
  5. BO loosely.

Cut into two small curved halves or make two separate little tabs if preferred. Sew at the neckline so the collar peeks out only slightly above the cardigan.

Underskirt

The underskirt is the deeper rose visible beneath the pale petal panels. It should flare but still hang neatly, not puff too much. If you already worked the color into the body base, add an extra outer underskirt layer only if you want more fullness.

  • Pick up stitches around the waistline or sew on a separate skirt strip.
  • Use deeper rose.
  • Allow a gentle flare.
  • Finish with a narrow garter hem.

The lower edge should just show below the petal points. In the image, it forms a soft rounded band under the pale panels.

Petal Overskirt Panels

This detail is one of the most important elements in the design. The bunny wears a pale pink overskirt made of separate pointed petal panels. Each visible front panel has a tulip motif placed centrally, with the point reaching downward over the darker underskirt.

Make 6 to 8 panels depending on your bunny’s circumference. Use very pale blush.

  1. CO 10 sts.
  2. Work 2 rows garter stitch.
  3. Work 8 rows stockinette.
  4. Shape petal point row 1: k2tog, knit to last 2 sts, ssk. 8 sts.
  5. Purl 1 row.
  6. Repeat decrease row. 6 sts.
  7. Purl 1 row.
  8. Repeat decrease row. 4 sts.
  9. Purl 1 row.
  10. Repeat decrease row. 2 sts.
  11. K2tog and fasten off.

Before attaching, embroider each front-facing panel with a tulip motif. Use green for two leaves and stem, and deep tulip pink for the cup of the flower. Keep the tulip simple and vertically centered. The image shows three front petals clearly, each with one tulip.

Sew the panels around the waist, slightly overlapping their upper edges but leaving the lower points separate. Arrange them evenly so three main petals appear across the front and the others wrap toward the sides and back. The petal points should sit just above the hem of the deeper rose underskirt.

Cardigan

The cardigan is cropped, dusty lavender, and opens at the front with softly curved lower edges. It has long sleeves and small tulip embroidery near the lower front. The body is simple stockinette with narrow edging.

Back:

  1. CO 22 sts in lavender-mauve.
  2. Work 4 rows garter stitch.
  3. Work 18 rows stockinette.
  4. Shape shoulders: BO 4 sts at the start of next 2 rows.
  5. BO remaining stitches.

Left front:

  1. CO 12 sts.
  2. Work 4 rows garter stitch.
  3. Work 14 rows stockinette.
  4. Shape curved front edge by decreasing 1 stitch at the front edge every 4th row 3 times.
  5. Continue until piece matches back length to shoulder.
  6. BO shoulder stitches.

Right front: work as mirror image.

Sleeves, make 2:

  1. CO 12 sts.
  2. Work 4 rows garter stitch.
  3. Increase 1 stitch at each end every 6th row until 18 sts.
  4. Work even until sleeve reaches wrist-to-shoulder length for the bunny.
  5. BO.

Seam shoulders. Set in sleeves lightly. Seam sleeves and side seams. The cardigan should stop above the waistband and open enough to show the dress center front.

Embroider one tiny tulip or tulip bud on each lower front, plus a few green leaves. In the image, the embroidery is delicate and placed near the rounded front lower edge. Do not crowd this area with too many stitches.

Hat

The hat is a soft dusty rose cloche with a folded lower brim, a large knitted bow on the left side, and embroidered tulips on the right front. It sits low over the forehead and partly covers the top of the ears.

Hat body:

  1. CO 48 sts in dusty rose.
  2. Join for working in the round, or work flat and seam later.
  3. Work 6 rounds or rows garter stitch for the folded brim section.
  4. Work 16 rounds or rows stockinette.
  5. Begin crown shaping: k6, k2tog around.
  6. Work 1 round even.
  7. Next decrease round: k5, k2tog around.
  8. Continue in this manner until a small number of stitches remain.
  9. Thread yarn through remaining stitches and pull closed.

Fold the brim slightly upward and tack it in place where needed. The hat should remain soft, not stiff.

Bow:

  1. CO 18 sts in dusty rose.
  2. Work 24 rows stockinette with 2-stitch garter borders if you want the edges neater.
  3. BO.
  4. Wrap the center tightly with matching yarn to create a bow shape.

Sew the bow to the left side of the hat. It should be large enough to be a focal point but not wider than the head. In the image, the bow is plump and sits close to the brim.

Embroider two small tulip motifs on the opposite side of the hat. Use green stems and leaves, and soft pink tulip heads. Keep them slightly angled upward so they follow the curve of the hat.

Shoes

The shoes are lavender and rounded, with tiny strap details. They cover the feet like soft Mary Jane slippers.

Make 2.

  1. CO 14 sts in lavender.
  2. Work 2 rows garter stitch.
  3. Work 8 rows stockinette.
  4. Decrease row: k2tog, knit to last 2 sts, ssk.
  5. Work 1 row.
  6. Repeat decrease once more.
  7. BO and seam around the foot.

Add a narrow stitched strap over the front and a tiny knot or embroidered nub at the side to suggest a fastening. Slide or sew the shoes onto the bunny feet. They should look rounded and cozy, not sharp or boot-like.

Ticket Tag

The tiny ticket is a rectangular knitted charm worked in light beige with the word TICKET stitched across the front in dark yarn. It has a short loop or cord at one end.

  1. CO 12 sts in light beige.
  2. Work 10 rows in garter stitch.
  3. BO.

📌Thank you for reading the article

Fold lightly if you want more thickness, or back it with a second piece. Embroider the word across the front in simple straight stitches. Add a short knitted I-cord or twisted cord loop to one side.

Tiny Duck

The duck wears a pale pink dress with a deeper rose hem and a tiny bow on its head. The body is soft yellow with a small orange beak. This accessory adds an important storybook detail, so keep it sweet and simple.

Duck body, make 2 in pale yellow:

  1. CO 8 sts.
  2. Increase at each end every RS row until 16 sts.
  3. Work 10 rows stockinette.
  4. Decrease at each end every RS row until 8 sts.
  5. BO.

Seam and stuff lightly. Embroider tiny black eyes and a small orange beak. Add tiny wings as small knitted ovals or simple folded patches sewn to the sides.

Duck dress:

  1. CO 18 sts in deeper rose.
  2. Work 2 rows garter stitch.
  3. Change to pale pink and work 6 rows stockinette.
  4. BO.

Wrap around the duck body and seam at the back. Add one small dusty rose bow at the head.

Mini Carousel

The carousel is pastel and delicate, with a striped canopy and little hanging elements. It does not need to be large. Its charm comes from the color arrangement and neat finishing.

Base:

  • Knit a tiny circular or layered disc in rose and yellow tones.
  • Stuff slightly or layer two flat circles together.
  • Add a pale blue inner ring if you want to match the image more closely.

Center post:

  • Make a short firm I-cord in cream or pale yellow.
  • Stuff or stiffen lightly with extra yarn passes.

Canopy:

  1. Make 6 narrow wedge-shaped pieces in alternating dusty rose, cream, and pink.
  2. Join them into a shallow cone.
  3. Finish the lower canopy edge with a thin gold or yellow border.
  4. Add a tiny top knob in pale yellow.

Hang a few tiny white beads of yarn or knitted drops from the canopy edge to mimic the dangling details in the image. Keep the whole piece centered and tidy.

Tulip Bouquet

The bouquet includes several closed tulip blooms in pink, cream, lavender, and bright rose, joined with green stems and tied near the center.

Make 4 small tulips.

Each bloom:

  1. CO 6 sts in bloom color.
  2. Work 4 rows stockinette.
  3. Decrease by 1 stitch at each end on the next RS row.
  4. Work 1 row.
  5. Draw remaining stitches together.

Stem and leaves:

  • Make a narrow I-cord stem in green for each bloom.
  • Add one or two tiny pointed leaves.
  • Gather the stems together.
  • Tie with pink yarn to form a neat bouquet.

The bouquet should rest beside the carousel and duck without overpowering them. Keep the blooms small and smooth.

Embroidery Placement Guide

  • Hat: two tulip motifs on the right front.
  • Cardigan: one tiny tulip motif near each lower front edge.
  • Overskirt petals: one tulip centered on each visible front panel.
  • Face: tiny pink nose and short mouth lines only.
  • Ticket: dark stitched lettering.

Use very small, tidy embroidery so the knitting remains the main texture. The image shows restrained decoration, not heavy embellishment.

Color Placement Notes

To match the image closely, keep the palette soft and dusty rather than bright. The bunny itself is warm beige. The dress uses three pink families: pale blush at the bodice and petal overskirt, deeper rose at the waistband and underskirt, and dusty rose at the hat.

The cardigan and shoes are a muted mauve-lavender. The tulip stems and leaves are medium leaf green. The duck is buttery yellow with pink clothing. The carousel uses pastel cream, rose, pink, pale blue, and soft gold tones.

Shaping Notes for Accuracy

The head should be slightly wider than the upper body. The cheeks should appear rounded, but the muzzle should not protrude strongly. The ears need to begin high enough that the hat can sit over them naturally.

The skirt should flare gently rather than balloon outward. The petal panels should be soft and slightly layered, with visible spacing between their points. The cardigan must end above the petal start line, or the outfit will lose the distinct layered look shown in the image.

The hat brim should sit just above the eyes. The bow should be attached on the bunny’s left side. The tulip embroidery on the hat should sit on the opposite front side for visual balance.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Place the eyes evenly, low enough to keep the face gentle and youthful. Embroider a small upside-down pink triangle for the nose, then add a short center line and two tiny mouth stitches. Keep all facial work minimal.

Sew the ears after testing the hat placement. Dress the bunny fully before fixing the cardigan front curve permanently. Arrange the skirt petals neatly, then tack them lightly so they stay in place.

Care Notes

Handle the accessories gently, especially the carousel and bouquet. Store the set away from moisture and direct sunlight. For best shape, keep the bunny standing or seated with the skirt spread naturally rather than pressed flat.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • Head centered and firmly attached
  • Ears evenly placed and softly draped
  • Dress layers visible in the correct order
  • Cardigan fronts balanced
  • Hat brim low and bow secure
  • Tulip embroidery placed symmetrically
  • Shoes matched in size and angle
  • Accessories scaled to the bunny

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Spot clean with a barely damp cloth and mild soap only when needed. Avoid soaking, twisting, or machine washing, especially because of the stuffed body and miniature accessories. Reshape gently by hand and air dry flat on a towel.

For long-term preservation, wrap the set in clean tissue and store in a breathable box. Keep dark inks, rough hooks, and sharp jewelry away from the knitted surface so the smooth stockinette remains beautiful over time.
