About the Design

This pattern is written to recreate the full knitted scene shown in the photo: a seated bunny with a rounded head, long drooping ears, a soft gathered dress, embroidered yellow flowers, a bonnet with a frilled edge, rounded arms and legs, small knitted shoes, a tiny shoulder pouch, a milk bottle, a flower bundle, and a miniature cow companion.

The shaping is intentionally gentle and plush. The bunny has a large head, compact upper body, softly weighted lower body, short arms, and long padded legs that angle forward naturally when seated. The dress sits high under the neck and flares outward over the lower body.

The fabric should be dense enough to hide stuffing. Use needles smaller than usual for the yarn weight. Keep tension even throughout, especially on the face, ears, dress trim, and miniature accessories.

Skill Level

Intermediate, mainly because of the many small parts, finishing steps, embroidery, and miniature accessories. The actual stitches are simple and repetitive.

Finished Measurements

  • Main bunny: about 11 in / 28 cm tall seated from foot to bonnet top

Main Bunny

Legs Make 2

Use color A and 2.75 mm needles. Work in the round. Stuff as you go, but keep the top 2 in / 5 cm of each leg lightly stuffed so the legs remain softly bendable.

Each leg is long, smooth, and evenly rounded. The feet are only slightly wider than the leg tube, matching the sample toy.

  1. CO 12 sts. Divide on DPNs or use magic loop. Join carefully. 12 sts
  2. Rnd 1: Knit.
  3. Rnd 2: Kfb in each st around. 24 sts
  4. Rnd 3: Knit.
  5. Rnd 4: K3, kfb, rep around. 30 sts
  6. Rnd 5-10: Knit 6 rnds.
  7. Rnd 11: K3, k2tog, rep around. 24 sts
  8. Rnd 12: Knit.
  9. Rnd 13: K2, k2tog, rep around. 18 sts
  10. Rnd 14-34: Knit 21 rnds.
  11. Rnd 35: K7, k2tog, k7, ssk. 16 sts
  12. Rnd 36-40: Knit 5 rnds.

For the first leg, break yarn and set aside. Knit the second leg the same way, but do not break yarn.

Join Legs and Knit Lower Body

The bunny in the photo has a seated, slightly pear-shaped lower body. The join should be firm but not bulky. Place the legs so the decreases on each leg face inward.

  1. Rnd 1: Knit across second leg 16 sts, CO 4 sts loosely, knit across first leg 16 sts, CO 4 sts loosely to join. 40 sts
  2. Rnd 2: Knit.
  3. Rnd 3: Knit.
  4. Rnd 4: K15, m1R, k10, m1R, k15. 42 sts
  5. Rnd 5: Knit.
  6. Rnd 6: K16, m1R, k10, m1R, k16. 44 sts
  7. Rnd 7: Knit.
  8. Rnd 8: K17, m1R, k10, m1R, k17. 46 sts
  9. Rnd 9-14: Knit 6 rnds.
  10. Rnd 15: K21, m1R, k2, m1L, k21. 48 sts
  11. Rnd 16-20: Knit 5 rnds.

Begin stuffing both legs firmly, especially the feet and ankles. Add a little extra stuffing to the lower tummy area so the bunny sits nicely and does not collapse forward.

Upper Body

The upper body narrows gently into a small neck. Do not overstuff the chest. The dress will sit better over a softly padded torso.

  1. Rnd 21: K6, k2tog, rep around. 42 sts
  2. Rnd 22: Knit.
  3. Rnd 23: K5, k2tog, rep around. 36 sts
  4. Rnd 24-28: Knit 5 rnds.
  5. Rnd 29: K4, k2tog, rep around. 30 sts
  6. Rnd 30: Knit.
  7. Rnd 31: K3, k2tog, rep around. 24 sts
  8. Rnd 32-35: Knit 4 rnds.
  9. Rnd 36: K2, k2tog, rep around. 18 sts
  10. Rnd 37-40: Knit 4 rnds.

Stuff body firmly at the tummy and lower back, lightly at upper chest. Shape with your fingers as you go so the body remains broad at the base and smaller near the neck.

Head

The head is large compared with the body and nearly spherical, with a very slight muzzle definition. Work the increases slowly for a smooth curve.

  1. Rnd 1: K1, kfb, rep around. 27 sts
  2. Rnd 2: Knit.
  3. Rnd 3: K2, kfb, rep around. 36 sts
  4. Rnd 4: Knit.
  5. Rnd 5: K3, kfb, rep around. 45 sts

  7. Rnd 7: K4, kfb, rep around. 54 sts
  8. Rnd 8-19: Knit 12 rnds.

Place safety eyes now between Rnds 12 and 13 of the head, about 10 sts apart, centered evenly. If embroidering eyes later, mark the placements instead.

Stuff the head very firmly and evenly. The face should look smooth, not lumpy. Focus stuffing in the cheeks and forehead, but do not make the muzzle protrude too far.

  1. Rnd 20: K4, k2tog, rep around. 45 sts
  2. Rnd 21: Knit.
  3. Rnd 22: K3, k2tog, rep around. 36 sts
  4. Rnd 23: Knit.
  5. Rnd 24: K2, k2tog, rep around. 27 sts
  6. Rnd 25: Knit.
  7. Rnd 26: K1, k2tog, rep around. 18 sts

Finish stuffing. Thread yarn through remaining sts, pull tight, and fasten securely.

Arms Make 2

Use color A and 2.75 mm needles. Work in the round. The arms are short, simple, and lightly curved from stuffing. They reach to about the waist when attached.

  1. CO 8 sts. Join. 8 sts
  2. Rnd 1: Kfb in each st around. 16 sts
  3. Rnd 2-4: Knit 3 rnds.
  4. Rnd 5: K2, k2tog, rep around. 12 sts
  5. Rnd 6-18: Knit 13 rnds.
  6. Rnd 19: K2tog around. 6 sts

Break yarn, thread through sts, but do not pull fully closed. Stuff lightly, flatten opening, and sew arm top closed. Leave a long tail for sewing.

Ears Make 2

Use color A and 2.75 mm needles. Work flat. The ears are long, narrow at the top, and softly rounded at the tip. They fall downward beside the face.

Assembly

Attach Ears

Sew the ears to the upper side areas of the head, starting about 3 rnds back from the eye line. Angle them downward so they frame the face and fall to about shoulder level.

Attach Arms

Sew the arms to each side of the upper body, just below the neck. The arm tops should angle slightly downward. The paws should rest near the waistline of the dress.

Fit the Dress

Slide the dress onto the bunny from the feet upward. Ease the armholes around the arms. Close the back neatly. Adjust the gathers of the skirt so the fullness sits mostly at the front and sides, just like the sample photo.

Fit the Bonnet

Place the bonnet with the cream portion sitting close to the crown and the yellow ruffle framing the face. Tie under the chin in a soft bow or knot.

Add Shoes and Accessories

  • Sew or tack one shoe onto each foot if you want a permanent display.
  • For a styled photo look, leave one shoe off and place it beside the bunny.
  • Place the milk bottle inside the shoulder bag.
  • Drape the bag across the bunny so it rests beside one leg.
  • Set the mini bouquet near the bag.
  • Position the mini cow beside the bunny.

Facial Embroidery for the Bunny

The sample face is extremely simple and gentle. The nose is a small stitched Y-shape centered low on the face. The mouth line is short and delicate.

  1. Using dark brown or deep taupe yarn, stitch a tiny vertical line about 0.5 in / 1.25 cm below the eye line.
  2. Work two small diagonal stitches meeting at the bottom of that line to form a soft Y-shaped nose and mouth.
  3. If needed, lightly sculpt the muzzle by taking one long thread through the head from one side of the nose to the other and pulling very gently.

Styling Notes for an Accurate Look

  • Do not overstuff the arms or ears. The toy in the photo looks soft, not rigid.
  • Keep the head very round. Uneven stuffing will change the sweet expression.
  • Use muted cream, not bright white, for the main bunny and dress.
  • The yellow should stay pale and buttery, especially on the bonnet edge and flowers.
  • The flower embroidery is important. Without it, the dress will not match the sample appearance.
  • The neck should remain fairly narrow so the bonnet and dress collar sit properly.
  • The legs should angle forward naturally so the bunny can sit for display.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Check the symmetry of the eyes, ears, arms, and dress placement before permanently sewing everything down. Embroider the nose with only a few passes so it remains tiny and soft. Shape the cheeks and chin with your fingers after stuffing and before closing the final opening.

Care Notes

Display the finished set indoors and away from direct sunlight. Spot clean whenever possible. Small accessories are decorative and should be kept away from very young children unless all parts are embroidered and securely attached.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Use a barely damp cloth with mild soap for surface cleaning. Blot, never rub hard. Reshape while drying and let air dry fully on a towel. For long-term storage, wrap in acid-free tissue and keep in a dry box away from humidity, dust, and heat.
