This knitted bunny set is designed to recreate the sweet heirloom look of a dressed rabbit doll sitting beside a tiny fox friend in a sunlit room. The finished project has the feel of a collectible soft toy, nursery decor piece, baby shower gift, handmade bunny doll, and cottagecore keepsake all in one. With its blue floral dress, rounded cloche hat, tiny purse, deep blue shoes, and matching accessories, this pattern is made for knitters who love detailed toy patterns that look beautiful enough to gift, display, or sell as a finished handmade item.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Overview
This pattern is written to create the full knitted set shown in the image:
- A seated bunny with long ears and softly rounded head
- A blue-and-white porcelain style dress with puffed sleeves and waist tie
- A blue cloche hat with a narrow rolled brim and tiny flower trim
- A small blue purse with floral detail
- Dark blue Mary Jane style shoes
- A tiny fox companion with sweater and basket
- An optional knitted teacup and small stacked books to complete the scene
The bunny is made from individual knitted sections and seamed firmly to hold the exact sitting pose shown in the photo. The legs are attached in a downward seated position. The arms are short and rounded. The head is larger than the body, but not oversized. The ears are long, narrow, and softly draped down each side.
Skill Level
Advanced beginner to intermediate. The shaping is straightforward, but the project includes toy construction, mattress stitch seaming, short decorative finishing, and a few small accessories.
Finished Size
- Bunny: about 13 inches / 33 cm tall from top of hat to bottom of shoes
- Bunny without hat: about 11.5 inches / 29 cm tall
- Fox: about 4.5 inches / 11.5 cm tall seated
- Purse: about 2 inches / 5 cm tall
- Teacup: about 1 inch / 2.5 cm high
- Book stack: each book about 1.25 inches / 3 cm long
Materials
- DK yarn in cream or warm ivory for bunny body
- DK yarn in medium blue for hat, shoe tops, purse, and trim
- DK yarn in navy for shoes and some dress accents
- DK yarn in white for dress base
- Small amounts of sky blue and darker blue for floral effect on dress
- DK yarn in rust, dark brown, tan, cream, moss green, and olive for fox and basket
- Small amount of pale green, purple, and off-white for books and floral embroidery
- Pair of 3.0 mm straight needles or a long circular used flat
- Pair of 2.75 mm straight needles for tiny accessories if preferred
- Toy stuffing
- 2 small black safety eyes, 6 mm, or black embroidery thread
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers
- Waste yarn
- Thin card or plastic canvas scraps for shoe soles if desired
Gauge
26 stitches and 36 rows = 4 inches / 10 cm in stockinette stitch on 3.0 mm needles after light blocking.
Gauge matters because the proportions of the head, body, limbs, and clothes depend on a firm knitted fabric. A loose fabric will make the bunny stretch too long and lose the compact seated look.

Notes Before You Begin
The bunny is worked flat in separate pieces and seamed. This makes it easier to keep the shaping controlled and symmetrical. The face is simple, with small black eyes, a narrow nose bridge, and a stitched Y-shaped mouth.
The dress is also worked flat in pieces. The floral porcelain effect is made with scattered duplicate stitch after knitting the base fabric, which gives much better control than trying to knit a fully charted print into such a small garment.
The hat is worked flat and seamed into a rounded cloche shape. A narrow rolled brim and slightly domed crown are important for matching the image. Keep the fabric smooth and fairly dense.

Row 40: P.
Row 41: K2tog twice. 2 sts.
Cut yarn and draw through remaining sts.
Fold each ear lengthwise, sew seam, and lightly stuff only the bottom third. The ear should remain soft and able to drape downward beside the head.
Joining Body and Head
Join body front and body back at shoulders first, leaving neck edge open. Sew side seams of body, but leave lower edge open for inserting the legs later.
For the head, sew the center strip to one side head piece from nose point over crown to back neck. Sew the second side piece to the opposite edge of the center strip. Close the lower back seam but leave the neck opening open.
Stuff the head very firmly. Shape the muzzle slightly by adding more stuffing in the lower front. The forehead should be softly rounded. The side profile should look gentle, not pointed.
Join head to neck opening using backstitch or mattress stitch. Add extra stuffing into body, keeping the lower body broad enough for the dress to sit nicely. The torso should be slightly pear-shaped, not cylindrical.
Insert Legs and Arms
Place legs at the lower front body seam, about 4 stitches apart in the center. Sew flat tops securely into the lower body opening so both legs hang straight down when the bunny is seated.
Attach arms just below the neck seam, one on each side. They should angle slightly downward. The left arm can be positioned to carry the purse. The right arm can rest lower toward the fox side.
Face Shaping and Embroidery
Place eyes about 7 rows down from top of head and about 5 stitches out from the center line on each side. The eyes in the image are tiny, dark, and simple, so do not use large glossy eyes.
With cream sewing thread, make a tiny horizontal indent at the muzzle if you want extra shape. With brown or dark taupe embroidery thread, stitch a vertical nose bridge about 3 rows long. Add a small Y-shaped mouth beneath it.
The expression should remain calm and neutral. Avoid a large smile. The charm of the bunny comes from the simple face and soft upright posture.
Mary Jane Shoes Make 2
Each shoe is worked flat from sole upward. Make one in mirror placement if you want the straps to close toward the outer side.
Using navy, CO 18 sts.

Dress Waist Tie
Using medium blue, CO 4 sts.
Knit 42 rows.
BO.
Make a second strip 18 rows long for the hanging knot if you want extra thickness, or simply tie the long strip around the waist and tack it in place with a centered knot.
Dress Assembly
Sew skirt front and back side seams. Gather or ease upper skirt edge to match bodice lower edge. Sew front skirt to bodice front. Sew each back skirt edge to a back bodice piece.
Join shoulder seams. Insert sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams if not already done. Dress the bunny and close back overlap with a few hidden stitches or a tiny snap if you want removable clothing.
Tie the blue waist sash slightly above natural waist, not low on the hips. The knot sits in the center front in the image, with short hanging ends.
Porcelain Floral Dress Detailing
This detail is important for the exact look. Use medium blue and darker blue duplicate stitch over the white dress after assembly. Add dense border motifs around the hem, scattered splashes over the skirt and bodice, and lighter speckling on the sleeves.
- Work a dense ornamental line around the hem over the lower 8 rows
- Add small uneven blossom clusters across the front skirt
- Place a few darker dots inside some motifs for depth
- Keep the bodice print lighter than the lower skirt border
- Add speckles to sleeves, but leave small areas of white visible
The effect should resemble blue transferware porcelain, not a regular geometric fair isle. Random placement looks more authentic than evenly spaced flowers.
Cloche Hat

Purse
Using medium blue, CO 14 sts.

Rows 1-8: St st.
BO.
Fold and seam into a small rectangle. Lightly pad with a scrap of stuffing or felt. Stack in varied colors such as sage, cream, and plum to echo the image.
Final Assembly and Styling
Dress the bunny first, then sew shoes firmly in place. Tie the sash. Place the hat low and slightly tilted to one side. Attach purse to paw. Sit the fox at the bunny’s right side from the viewer’s perspective.
For the most accurate display, bend the bunny legs gently forward at the hip seam so the feet hang over an edge. The skirt should spread softly. The ears should fall straight down and disappear slightly beneath the hat brim.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
- Check that both eyes are level before securing permanently
- Keep the embroidered nose very small and centered
- Shape cheeks with gentle finger pressure before final closing
- Tack the hat in two hidden spots so it stays low on the forehead
- Sew purse and sash securely after final posing
Care Notes
- Display indoors away from direct sun to protect the blue tones
- Spot clean whenever possible
- Do not machine wash fully assembled toy if it has safety eyes or dense stuffing
- Keep away from rough handling if used as decor rather than a child’s toy
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- Head firmly stuffed and round
- Ears matched in length and placement
- Legs sewn in seated position
- Dress border and scattered blue motifs completed
- Hat brim rolled evenly
- Purse flowers embroidered
- Fox sweater stripes clear and balanced
