This cheerful knitted dinosaur is dressed for a sunny garden day with soft green skin, a blue-and-cream striped shirt, brown beekeeper overalls, open sandals, a yellow beehive shoulder bag, a tiny crown with a bee on top, and small bee and daisy details. The finished toy is designed as a seated plush with a large rounded head, long tail, chunky toes, and playful picnic-table accessories.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This pattern is written in US English knitting terms. The dinosaur is worked mainly in the round using stockinette stitch, then stuffed firmly and shaped with careful seaming. Small details such as the embroidered smile, raised eyes, shirt stripes, bees, flowers, sandals, overalls, crown, bag, watering can, and sun hat are added separately.
The proportions are based on the image: a large oval head, medium pear-shaped body, short arms, long seated legs, thick feet with separate toes, and a tapered tail extending behind the body. The overalls sit high on the belly with shoulder straps and small buttons. The shirt sleeves are short and striped. The head is slightly tilted forward, giving the dinosaur a gentle, friendly look.

Helpful Notes Before You Start
Work tightly enough that stuffing does not show through the knitted fabric. The toy in the image has visible vertical knit stitches, so stockinette in the round is the main texture. Stuff each piece gradually and firmly, but do not overstuff the face, because the head needs a smooth oval shape.
When joining limbs, use pins first. The arms should angle slightly downward. The legs should project forward so the dinosaur sits naturally. The tail should be attached low at the back and angled slightly upward at the tip.
Main Head
The head is large, rounded, and slightly elongated from snout to back. Use soft green yarn. Work in the round and place a marker at the beginning of each round.
- CO 8 sts using the long-tail cast on. Divide over needles and join in the round.

Handle
- With beige yarn, CO 5 sts.
- Rows 1-30: K all sts.

Curve the handle into a C shape and sew it to the opposite side of the can. Add one small bee to the front. Embroider three small flowers coming out of the top: one blue, one yellow, and one pink, each with 5 short petals and a yellow center.
Mouth and Face Embroidery
The dinosaur has a wide, happy, white zigzag smile across the lower side of the snout. It curves upward slightly at the cheek and gives the toy its friendly expression.
- Thread white yarn on a tapestry needle.
- Start at the lower left side of the snout, about 6 rounds above the bottom of the head.
- Work a shallow zigzag line across the front, making each V shape about 2 stitches wide and 2 rounds tall.
- Create 9 to 11 small zigzags, ending on the lower right side of the snout.
- Secure the yarn inside the head and hide the tail.
For extra cheek shaping, use green yarn and make one long hidden stitch from the left side of the mouth to the back of the head, then repeat on the right. Pull gently so the smile area sits slightly inward.
Head to Body Assembly
Place the head on the body with the snout facing slightly downward. The eyes should sit high and forward. The body neck opening should fit under the head center, not at the very back, so the dinosaur looks seated and relaxed.
- Pin the head to the body before sewing.
- Check the side view. The snout should project forward and the tail should balance the seated body.
- Use green yarn and sew around the neck twice for strength.
- Add extra stuffing through the neck area before closing the final gap.
- Weave in ends securely.
Optional Neck Collar
The image shows a blue ribbed collar at the neckline above the striped shirt. Add this collar after the head is attached.
- With blue yarn, CO 44 sts.
- Rows 1-5: K1, p1 rib across.
- BO loosely in rib.
- Wrap around the neck and sew the short ends together at the back.
- Tack the collar lightly to the shirt so it stays flat.
Body Placement and Sitting Shape
To make the dinosaur sit like the image, attach the legs low on the front of the body. The upper brown sections should touch the lower edge of the overalls. The knees should bend forward naturally, with feet dangling slightly lower than the body.
- Attach each leg about 1 in / 2.5 cm apart at the front lower body.
- Use strong mattress stitch around the top of each leg.
- Angle the toes slightly outward.
- Sew the tail after the legs, so you can balance the seated pose.
- Place the arms after the overalls and bag are fitted.
Small White Daisy Decorations
The toy has tiny white daisies on the sandals and can also have a few around the accessories. These flowers are embroidered directly onto the knitted fabric.
- Thread white yarn and make 5 small loop petals in a circle.
- Keep each petal about 0.25 in / 6 mm long.
- Thread yellow yarn and make one French knot or small straight stitch in the center.
- Secure ends on the inside or under the nearest seam.
Finishing the Beekeeper Look
After the main pieces are sewn, add the last decorative details. These small additions make the pattern match the garden beekeeper theme from the image.
- Add two brown buttons where the overall straps meet the bib.
- Place the carrot patch on the center front of the bib.
- Set the yellow beehive bag on the dinosaur’s right lower side.
- Let the strap cross diagonally over the striped shirt and overall bib.
- Attach bees to the shirt, hat, crown, bag, and watering can.
- Add a tiny white wing pair to every bee for a soft handmade look.
- Keep the face simple, with raised eyes and a clean white zigzag smile.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Check all pieces from the front before securing the final ends. The dinosaur should have a large green head, high raised eyes, a round snout, a white zigzag smile, brown overalls, striped sleeves, yellow bag, sandals, a crown, and garden accessories.
- Sew the head firmly to the body with green yarn.
- Sew arms just under the shoulders, angled down.
- Sew legs low and forward for a seated pose.
- Sew the tail at the lower back for balance.
- Steam lightly only if needed, keeping steam away from safety eyes and buttons.
- Trim loose yarn ends, but do not cut too close to knots.
Care Notes
Spot clean the dinosaur with cool water and mild soap. Do not twist or wring the toy. Press gently with a towel and let it air dry flat. If the toy includes buttons or safety eyes, it is best used as a decorative plush rather than a toy for very young children.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- Head is stuffed smoothly and sewn securely.
- Eyes are even and facing forward.
- Smile is centered and curved gently upward.
- Overalls sit high on the belly with visible straps.
- Striped shirt shows at sleeves and neckline.
- Bag strap crosses the chest diagonally.
- Sandals have brown straps and white daisies.
- Crown, bees, sun hat, and watering can are finished.
- Tail supports the seated pose from behind.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Store the knitted dinosaur in a dry place away from direct sunlight to protect the green, blue, yellow, and brown yarn colors. If dust gathers on the toy, use a soft dry cloth or a gentle lint roller. Keep the crown, bees, flowers, and buttons from being pulled during cleaning.
For long-term display, place the dinosaur upright with support under the tail and legs. Avoid heavy objects pressing on the raised eyes, bag, or watering can. Refresh the shape by gently squeezing the stuffing back into place with clean hands.
