Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Pattern Overview

This pattern is written for knitting a soft amigurumi-style corgi with firm shaping and visible stockinette texture. Most pieces are knitted in the round on double-pointed needles or a small circular needle using the magic loop method. Small flat details, such as the inner ears, leaf motifs, fox patches, acorns, backpack flap, and shoe trims, are worked separately and sewn on.

The finished toy is designed to stand about 11 inches tall when made with DK weight yarn and 2.75 mm needles. The head is intentionally large compared with the body, giving the corgi a sweet handmade character. The legs are short and sturdy, the sweater sits wide across the shoulders, and the ears rise high from the head at a slightly outward angle.

Skill Level

  • Level: Intermediate amigurumi knitting.
  • Skills used: Knitting in the round, increasing, decreasing, short shaping, color changes, duplicate stitch, basic embroidery, mattress stitch, picking up stitches, and simple sewn assembly.
  • Beginner note: Work slowly and use stitch markers often. The toy uses many small pieces, but each section is built from simple shapes.

Finished Size

  • Total height: About 11 inches from shoe soles to ear tips.
  • Head width: About 4.5 inches across the cheeks.
  • Body height: About 4.25 inches from neck to bottom of pants.
  • Leg length: About 2.5 inches including shoes.
  • Ear height: About 2.75 inches each.
  • Backpack size: About 2.5 inches tall and 2 inches wide.
  • Hat size: Sized to fit beside the doll as a matching accessory, about 3.25 inches wide when laid flat.

Materials

  • DK weight yarn in warm tan for the corgi head, ears, and shoe edging.
  • DK weight yarn in cream for the muzzle, face blaze, inner ears, paws, and shoe toes.
  • DK weight yarn in deep forest green for the Nordic sweater, hat, and sweater sleeves.
  • DK weight yarn in rust orange for foxes, leaves, and sweater motifs.
  • DK weight yarn in medium brown for pants, acorn caps, shoe accents, and sweater motifs.
  • DK weight yarn in golden mustard yellow for the backpack and one small leaf.
  • Small amount of dark brown yarn for acorn body and nose embroidery.
  • Small amount of black yarn for mouth line and fox facial embroidery.
  • Two 8 mm black safety eyes or shiny black beads.
  • One 12 mm black safety nose, or black yarn for an embroidered rounded nose.
  • Fiberfill stuffing.
  • 2.75 mm double-pointed needles or circular needles for magic loop.
  • 2.5 mm needles for ribbing and small motifs.
  • Tapestry needle.
  • Stitch markers.
  • Small buttons, one 6 mm tan or wood-look button for backpack flap.
  • Optional removable stitch markers to mark face placement.

Gauge

Gauge is important for firmness. With DK yarn and 2.75 mm needles, aim for 7 stitches and 10 rounds per inch in stockinette after stuffing. The stitches should be tight enough that fiberfill does not show through. If your stitches are loose, go down to 2.5 mm needles.

  • Body fabric: 28 stitches and 40 rounds over 4 inches in stockinette.
  • Ribbing: Use 2.5 mm needles for sweater hem, cuffs, pants cuffs, and hat brim.
  • Colorwork note: Keep floats loose across the back of the sweater. For tiny motifs, duplicate stitch is easier and cleaner than carrying many colors.

Color Placement Guide

The corgi has a tan head with a wide cream muzzle and a cream vertical blaze that runs from the nose bridge up the center of the forehead. The cheeks are cream and rounded. The ears are tan outside with cream inner panels. The sweater is dark green with cream Nordic bands and rust-orange leaf motifs. The pants are warm brown with vertical purl ridges to imitate corduroy.

  • Main corgi color: Tan on sides of head, outer ears, upper face, and shoe borders.
  • Cream color: Central face blaze, muzzle, chin, paws, inner ears, and shoe toes.
  • Sweater: Green base with cream yoke band, cream zigzags, orange leaves, tan dots, and brown acorns.
  • Pants: Brown ribbed texture with turned cuffs.
  • Accessories: Yellow backpack with acorn charm, green hat with tiny fox patch, and tiny fox plus acorn on the head.

Head

The head is knitted in the round from the lower muzzle area upward. Color changes are used to create the cream lower face and tan upper face. The shape should be round, full, and slightly wider at the cheeks than at the top.

Head Base

  1. With cream yarn and 2.75 mm needles, CO 8 sts. Divide evenly over needles and join in the round.
  2. Rnd 1: k all sts. 8 sts.
  3. Rnd 2: inc in every st around. 16 sts.
  4. Rnd 3: k all sts.
  5. Rnd 4: repeat k1, inc around. 24 sts.
  6. Rnd 5: k all sts.
  7. Rnd 6: repeat k2, inc around. 32 sts.
  8. Rnd 7: k all sts.
  9. Rnd 8: repeat k3, inc around. 40 sts.
  10. Rnd 9: k all sts.
  11. Rnd 10: repeat k4, inc around. 48 sts.
  12. Rnd 11: k all sts.
  13. Rnd 12: repeat k5, inc around. 56 sts.
  14. Rnds 13 to 16: k all sts in cream. This forms the rounded lower muzzle and chin.

Face Color Change

From this point, the center front remains cream while the sides become tan. Mark the center front 16 sts. These 16 sts create the cream blaze and muzzle bridge.

  1. Rnd 17: k20 tan, k16 cream, k20 tan. 56 sts.
  2. Rnd 18: k21 tan, k14 cream, k21 tan.
  3. Rnd 19: k22 tan, k12 cream, k22 tan.
  4. Rnd 20: k22 tan, k12 cream, k22 tan.
  5. Rnd 21: k23 tan, k10 cream, k23 tan.
  6. Rnd 22: k23 tan, k10 cream, k23 tan.
  7. Rnd 23: k24 tan, k8 cream, k24 tan.
  8. Rnds 24 to 28: k24 tan, k8 cream, k24 tan.

The cream stripe should now run up the center of the face. Keep the color join neat by twisting the yarns gently on the inside. Do not pull too tightly, because the face should stay rounded.

Head Shaping

  1. Rnd 29: repeat k5, k2tog around, keeping colors as established where possible. 48 sts.
  2. Rnd 30: k all sts.
  3. Rnd 31: repeat k4, k2tog around. 40 sts.
  4. Rnd 32: k all sts.
  5. Rnd 33: repeat k3, k2tog around. 32 sts.
  6. Pause and insert safety eyes between Rnds 20 and 21, about 9 sts apart, placed on the tan sections just outside the cream blaze.
  7. Insert safety nose at the center front over Rnds 15 to 17. The nose should sit at the top of the cream muzzle.
  8. Begin stuffing firmly. Shape the cheeks with extra stuffing at both lower sides.
  9. Rnd 34: repeat k2, k2tog around. 24 sts.
  10. Rnd 35: repeat k1, k2tog around. 16 sts.
  11. Rnd 36: k2tog around. 8 sts.
  12. Cut yarn, thread through remaining sts, pull closed, and weave in end.

Muzzle Shaping and Facial Embroidery

The corgi muzzle in the image is rounded, cream, and divided by a small black vertical mouth line. Use soft shaping stitches to define the cheeks after the head is stuffed.

  1. Thread cream yarn on a tapestry needle. Insert at the bottom of the head and come out beside the nose.
  2. Take one small shaping stitch down to the lower center of the muzzle, then return to the nose area. Pull lightly to create a soft center dip.
  3. With black yarn, embroider one vertical line from the bottom of the nose down 5 rounds.
  4. Add two tiny angled stitches at the lower end of the vertical line to make a gentle corgi mouth.
  5. If using a plastic nose, add two black satin stitches over the top edge to soften the look.

Ears

The ears are large, upright, triangular, and slightly rounded at the base. Make two outer tan ears and two cream inner ear panels. The finished ears should be firm enough to stand.

Nordic Sweater Motif Details

The sweater in the image has a cream yoke band with orange leaves and brown acorns, plus small cream zigzags across the green body. For a cleaner toy, knit the sweater base first, then add motifs using duplicate stitch and small embroidery stitches.

Cream Yoke Band

  • Use the cream rounds already knitted at Rnds 19 and 22 as the top and bottom of the yoke band.
  • Between these lines, duplicate stitch rust-orange leaf shapes across the front.
  • Place one large orange leaf at center front, one leaf on each side front, and partial leaves toward the sleeves.
  • Each leaf uses 5 duplicate stitches high: 1 stitch at top, 3 stitches wide in the middle, and 1 stitch at bottom.

Brown Acorns on Sweater

  • Add 3 small acorns across the cream band under the neck.
  • For each acorn body, duplicate stitch 2 brown sts wide by 3 rows tall.
  • For each acorn cap, add 2 dark brown horizontal stitches across the top.
  • Place one acorn at center, and one about 5 sts to each side.

Lower Sweater Border

  1. Using cream yarn, duplicate stitch a zigzag line across Rnd 17 of the green sweater.
  2. Make the zigzag by stitching over 1 st on one round, then 1 st diagonally above on the next round, repeating around the front.
  3. Add rust-orange leaf shapes on the lower front, centered between the cream zigzags.
  4. Add tan dots beside the orange leaves by making single duplicate stitches.

Arms

The arms are short and rounded. Each arm begins with a cream paw and changes to the green sweater sleeve. The sleeve is wide and ends near the middle of the body.

  • For oak-style leaves, embroider side bumps with matching yarn after the leaf is knitted.
  • Use rust orange, olive green, forest green, and mustard yellow for a matching scene.

Body Assembly

Take your time with assembly. The final look depends on accurate placement. Use pins first, then sew when you are happy with the angle of every piece.

  1. Sew the head to the green neck opening of the body. The cream muzzle should face straight forward.
  2. Add extra stuffing into the neck before closing the seam so the head does not wobble.
  3. Sew the ears high on the head, with the bases starting near the upper sides and tips leaning outward.
  4. Sew the arms to the sweater sides. The paws should stop just above the pants waistband.
  5. Sew the legs under the lower body. Keep both shoes flat and parallel.
  6. Add the tiny fox and acorn to the head after the ears are attached.
  7. Place the backpack near the doll or add straps to let it sit over the shoulders.
  8. Place the green hat as a side accessory or gently position it behind one ear for display.

Detailed Sweater Embroidery Placement

The Nordic sweater is the focal garment. Use duplicate stitch to keep the motifs crisp and visible. Work all embroidery after the body is stuffed but before the arms are sewn if you want easier handling.

  • Upper cream band: Add orange leaves across the chest, each leaf 5 rows tall.
  • Acorn row: Add brown acorns between the orange leaves. Keep each acorn small, about 2 sts wide.
  • Lower green band: Add cream zigzag duplicate stitches across the front.
  • Lower leaf row: Add larger orange leaf diamonds across the belly, each 4 sts wide and 5 rows high.
  • Tan dots: Add single tan duplicate stitches between motifs to match the small woodland spots in the image.

Optional Corduroy Texture on Pants

The brown pants in the image have a strong vertical ribbed look. If your knitted ridges are not visible enough, add surface lines after stuffing.

  1. Thread brown yarn one shade darker than the pants.
  2. Work vertical surface stitches from the waistband down to the cuff every 3 sts.
  3. Keep each line straight and slightly raised.
  4. At the cuffs, add one horizontal line of darker brown stitches to show the rolled hem.
  5. Do not pull tightly, or the legs may bend inward.

Facial Expression Tips

The face should look gentle and calm. The safety eyes are set wide, and the nose is centered low on the cream blaze. A small vertical mouth gives the corgi a soft handmade expression.

  • Place eyes on the tan areas, not inside the cream stripe.
  • Keep the nose rounded and slightly shiny if using a safety nose.
  • Make the black mouth line thin, about 5 rounds long.
  • Add a small stitch at each side of the mouth only if you want a subtle smile.
  • Avoid heavy eyebrows, because the photo has a clean, innocent expression.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Check the doll from the front, sides, and top before tying off final threads. The ears should be even, the tiny fox should sit securely between them, and the acorn should lean naturally without pulling the head fabric. Shape the cheeks with your fingers so the cream muzzle looks full and rounded.

  • Secure all accessories with several small stitches.
  • Hide yarn tails inside stuffed pieces whenever possible.
  • Brush away loose fibers gently with your fingers.
  • Make sure the backpack button and acorn charm are firmly attached.
  • Confirm that both shoes face forward and support the doll evenly.

Care Notes

This knitted corgi is best used as a decorative handmade toy. Because it includes small parts, a button, embroidered details, and safety eyes, it is not recommended for children under three years old unless all pieces are replaced with secure embroidery.

  • Spot clean with cool water and mild soap.
  • Do not machine wash if using safety eyes, buttons, or firm shaping.
  • Lay flat to dry on a towel.
  • Reshape the ears, sweater, and shoes while damp.
  • Keep away from high heat, strong sunlight, and rough pulling.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • Head: Round, firmly stuffed, with cream blaze centered.
  • Ears: Large, upright, tan outside, cream inside, angled outward.
  • Face: Eyes even, nose centered, mouth embroidered neatly.
  • Sweater: Green base with cream bands, orange leaves, brown acorns, and small tan dots.
  • Pants: Brown, ribbed, short, with folded cuffs.
  • Shoes: Tan edge, cream toe, small acorn accents.
  • Accessories: Yellow backpack, green fox hat, tiny fox, tiny acorn, and autumn leaves complete.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Store the corgi in a dry place with good air circulation. If dust collects on the sweater or accessories, use a soft dry cloth or a gentle lint brush. Avoid soaking the toy, because the stuffing may dry unevenly and small embroidered motifs can shift.

  • Wrap the toy in acid-free tissue if storing for a long time.
  • Keep the yellow backpack and hat beside the doll to avoid stretching the straps.
  • Do not hang the doll by the ears, arms, or backpack.
  • Refresh the shape by gently squeezing the stuffed areas back into place.
  • Check tiny sewn parts occasionally and reinforce any loose stitches.

Your autumn Nordic corgi amigurumi is now complete, with its cozy green sweater, warm brown pants, tiny woodland friends, yellow backpack, matching fox hat, and scattered knitted leaves ready for a charming seasonal display.
